As the world grapples with the profound impacts of climate change,water scarcity has become a pressing ***,there is a shortage of in-depth research on the trade-offs between water resource dependence and the economic,ecological,and social needs of arid and semi-arid regions like Lanzhou,*** cultivation in Lanzhou relies heavily on the Yellow River,often overlooking the potential of natural *** we first calibrated a water balance model through artificial precipitation experiments in a Soil and Water Conservation demonstration Park in *** then developed a multi-objective optimization model to balance the cost-benefit considerations of various plausible measures across economic,ecological,and social dimensions in the searching for solutions that are more adaptable to climate change and local devel-opment *** simulations show that the solutions we designed can effectively manage water-shortage days,significantly reduce Yellow River water extraction,and improve cost-effectiveness,meeting 66%-80%of water needs for flower cultivation in the studied *** findings highlight the potential of rainwater collection and utilization solutions to mitigate water scarcity in arid and semi-arid cities,thereby enriching water resource management.

Low dose oral haloperidol does not prolong QTc interval in older acutely hospitalised adults： a subanalysis of a randomised double-blind placebo-controlled study

Background haloperidol is the most frequently prescribed antipsycbotic for delirium symptoms. The risk of QTc prolongation often raises concerns, although the effect of haloperidol on QTc interval has not yet been investigated in a randomised placebo-controlled fixed-dose study. methods A subanalysis of a randomised double-blind placebo-controlled study was conducted to evaluate the effect of prophylactic haloperidol 1 mg or placebo 1 mg orally twice-daily （maximum of 14 doses） on QTc interval in patients aged 70 years and over. Bedside, 12-lead ECGs were recorded before, during and after the one-week intervention period. Automatic QTc measurements were ob- tained in addition to manual measurements of QT and RR intervals, blinded for treatment status. manual measurements were corrected （QTc） using Bazett （QTc-B）, Framingham （QTc-Fa）, Fridericia （QTc-Fi） and hodges （QTc-h） methods. mixed model analyses were used to test for differences in longitudinal course of QTc between patients receiving haloperidol and placebo. Results ECG recordings of 72 patients （haloperidol n = 38） were analysed, 45.8% male. median （range） haloperidol serum concentration on day 4 was 0.71 （0.32-1.82） μg/L （n = 23）. Longitudinal course of mean QTc did not significantly differ between treatment arms for any of the automatic or manually derived QTc values. Conclusions Low dose oral haloperidol did not result in QTc prolongation in older acutely hospitalised patients. Results may not be generalizable to patients with existing ECG abnormalities such as atrial fibrillation.

Exploring water and ion transport process at silicone/copper interfaces using in-situ electrochemical and Kelvin probe approaches

In general,packaging materials which encapsulate light emitting diodes(LEDs)and microelectronic devices offer barrier protection against several environmental hazards such as water and ionic ***,these encapsulants may provide pathways for water and ionic contaminants to reach the metal/polymer interfaces and provoke local corrosion of electronics,which is a major reliability concern for polymer encapsulated LEDs and *** the water and corrosive constituents play a crucial role in their reliability,water uptake kinetics,interfacial ion transport and delamination behaviour of silicone coated copper model system,mimicking a typical microelectronics packaging system,is explored in the present *** impedance spectroscopy(EIS)integrated with attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared(ATR-FTIR)spectroscopy studies revealed that water diffusion inside the silicone network is Fickian in nature and the evolution of the observed time constants are related to the diffusion and interfacial reactions.A decrease of impedance magnitude with time was observed in EIS measurements concurrently with water absorption bands shifting towards lower wavenumber in ATR-FTIR measurements,implying the growth of strong hydrogen bonding between water molecules and the silicone *** estimated diffusion constant of water using the capacitance method was in the order of 7×10^(-12)m^(2)s^(-1)and the water absorption volume fraction was in the range of 0%to 0.30%.Scanning Kelvin probe studies elucidated the ion transport process occurring at the silicone/copper interface in a humid *** interfacial ion transport process is controlled by the interfacial electrochemical reactions at the cathodic delamination front and the estimated average delamination rate is 0.43 mm h^(-1/2).This work demonstrates that exploring ion and water transport in the silicone coating and along the silicone/copper interface is of pivotal importance as

Aim: To pursue whether cytogenetic aberrations correlate with specific spermatological or hormonal ***: 305 infertile couples were investigated. All male partners were referred to a complete andrological work-up with physical examination, determination of hormones, hIV testing and semen analysis. Cytogenetic analysis wascarded out in both partners by means of standard techniques using cultured lymphocytes from peripheral blood. Re-suits: Among the 305 couples, 10 men (3.2%) and 10 women (3.2%) showed constitutional chromosomal aber-rations, including reciprocal translocations (n = 7), Robertsonian translocations (n = 3), inversions (n = 3), otherstructural aberrations (n = 4) and sex chromosome aberrations (n = 3). In addition to the impaired sperm count inmost of the patients, a tendency to an increased proportion of spermatozoa with acrosome defect was observed. Con-clusion: Chromosomal aberrations may contribute to the low fertilization and pregnancy rates in the infertile couples.(Asian J Androl 2000 dec; 2: 293-296)

Characterisation of ph decline and meat color development of beef carcasses during the early postmortem period in a Chinese beef cattle abattoir

This study investigated the ph/temperature decline of beef carcasses in a typical Chinese abattoir and color development as ph declined during rigor onset. A natural cubic spline model was used to model the ph/temperature decline for those carcasses which passed through ph 6.0. Six of the 97 carcasses that exhibited a high （-〉6.10） ultimate ph （phu）（darkcutting） in the m. Iongissimus lumborum （LL） were sampled, along with the same numbers of normal phu and intermediate phu carcasses （5.40-5.79; 5.80-6.10, respectively）, to examine color development within 24 h postmortem. It was shown that 66.7% of the modeled carcasses were outside the ideal ph/temperature window with a temperature@ph6.0 lower than ideal, suggesting the need for acceleration of the ph decline. The stable and low a^＊, b^＊ and chroma values of high phu beef within the first 12 h indicated dark-cutting beef might be detected earlier than expected.

Long Term Salinity Stress Reveals Variety Specific Differences in Root Oxidative Stress Response

Salinity stress induces oxidative stress caused by reactive oxygen species （ROS）： superoxide radicals, hydrogen peroxide （h2O2） and hydroxyl radicals. Activities of both enzymatic and non-enzymatic components of the antioxidant system and related growth parameters were studied in the roots of the salt tolerant rice variety FL478 and the sensitive variety IR29 in response to long term stress （12 d）induced by 50 mmol/L NaCI. The comparative study showed that FL478 maintained higher relative growth rate and lower Na＋/K＋ in the roots than IR29 due to a higher membrane stability index that effectively exclude Na＋. Lower TBARS （thiobarbituric acid reactive substance） content in FL478 roots indicated that its membrane was relatively unaffected by ROS despite high h2O2 content recorded under the salinity stress. Relatively higher superoxide dismutase activity along with a parallel increase in transcript level of superoxide dismutase （Os07g46990） in FL478 indicated that this protein might make a vital contribution to salt stress tolerance. Although the content of ascorbic acid remained unchanged in FL478, the activity of ascorbic peroxidases （APOXs） was reduced comparably in the both varieties. Transcriptomic data showed that a larger number of peroxidase genes were upregulated in FL478 compared to IR29 and several of which might provide engineering targets to improve rice salt tolerance.

Controlling the gelation temperature of biomimetic polyisocyanides

Thermosensitive polymers show an entropy-driven transition from a well-solvated to a poorly solvated polymer chain, resulting in a more compact globular conformation. The transition at the lower critical solution temperature（LCST） is often sharp, which allows for a wide range of smart material *** the LCST, oligo（ethylene glycol）-substituted polyisocyanides（PICs） form soft hydrogels, composed of polymer bundles similar to biological gels, such as actin, fibrin and intermediate filaments. here, we show that the LCST of PICs strongly depends linearly on the length of the ethylene glycol（EG） tails; every EG group increases the LCSTand thus the gelation temperature by nearly 30 ℃. Using a copolymerisation approach, we demonstrate that we can precisely tailor the gelation temperature between 10 ℃ and 60 ℃and, consequently, tune the mechanical properties of the PIC gels.
