Resource economics and coordination among above- and below-ground functional traits of three dominant shrubs from the chilean coastal desert

Aims Plant functional traits determine how plants respond to environmen-tal factors and influence ecosystem *** them,root traits and analyses of relations between above and below-ground traits in natural communities are *** we characterized a set of above-and below-ground traits of three dominant shrub species in a semiarid shrub-steppe that had contrasting leaf pheno-logical habits(deciduous,semideciduous and evergreen).We ana-lysed if there was coordination among above-and below-ground resource economics patterns:*** of biomass allocation,construction costs and *** Findings Above-and below-ground traits and their resource economics relations pointed to species-specific functional strategies to cope with drought and poor soils and to a species ranking of fast to slow whole-plant strategies in terms of resource uptake,biomass con-struction costs and *** deciduous shrub,Proustia cunei-folia,had relatively deep and even distribution of roots,and high proportion of short-lived tissues of low c construction costs:it had high fine to coarse root and high leaf-to-stem biomass ratios,high specific leaf area(SLA),and stems of low wood *** strat-egy allows Proustia to maximize and coordinate above-and below-ground resources uptake as long as the most limiting factor(water)is available,but at the cost of having relative high plant biomass *** evergreen Porlieria chilensis,instead,displayed a more conservative and slow strategy in terms of resource *** had~80%of the roots in the 40 cm topsoil profile,low pro-portion of fine compared with coarse roots and low leaf-to-stem ratios,low SLA and stems of high wood density,*** invested in c costly tissues that,overall,persist longer but probably at the cost of having lower plant resource uptake *** in the semide-ciduous Adesmia bedwellii were in between these two functional *** results revealed high functional diversity and above-

choosing the most appropriate rootstock(s)is a key decision for the profitability of vineyards;therefore,there must be a sufficient range of rootstocks in the market adapted to different environmental conditions and production ***,rootstock-breeding programs have been scarce in recent decades,and most of the rootstocks used today were bred a century ago,when the needs of the sector were very different from *** this work,we aimed to evaluate new rootstock candidates before their introduction in the *** agronomic evaluation was conducted on eight novel rootstock genotypes obtained from the first generation of the cross-pollination of 41 B Millardet et de Grasset(41 B)and 110 Richter(110 R)grafted with‘Syrah’and‘Tempranillo’and planted in a typical vineyard of the Ebro Valley in *** the four consecutive growing seasons(2016–2019),growth,yield and berry composition parameters at harvest were collected.A linear mixed-effects model was constructed,considering year and block as random *** factor analysis and hierarchical clustering on principal components were performed to establish clusters of genotypes with similar *** rootstock candidates showed a very wide performance range compared to their *** trial allowed us to identify two very promising candidates(RG8 and RG10),whose registration as commercial rootstocks is already in progress.

Objective:To classify 21 new isolates of Trypanosoma cruai(***) according to the Discrete Typing Unit(DTU) which they belong to,as well as tune up a new pair of primers designed to detect the parasite in biological ***:Strains were isolated,DnA extracted,and classified by using three Polymerase chain Reactions(PcR).Subsequently this DnA was used along with other isolates of various biological samples,for a new PcR using primers ***,the amplified fragments were ***:It was observed the predominance of DTU i in colombia,as well as the specificity of our primers for detection of ***,while no band was obtained when other species were ***:This work reveals the genetic variability of 21 new isolates of *** in *** primers confirmed their specificity for detecting the presence of ***.

Dear Editor, The synthesis of tetrapyrroles, including chlorophylls, is central for chloroplast function. The metabolic pathway of tetrapyrrole biosynthesis in Arabidopsis is initiated with the formation of amino levulinic acid （ALA）, which is con- verted by a series of common reactions to protoporphy- tin IX （Proto IX）（Tanaka et al., 2011）. Then the pathway diverges into two branches： the synthesis of heme/bilin and chlorophylls. The insertion of Mg2＋ into Proto IX, cata- lyzed by Mg-chelatase, is the first committed reaction of the chlorophyll branch and is considered a key step for the regulation of the whole pathway. Mg-chelatase is a het- erotrimeric enzyme composed of subunits cHLI, cHLD, and cHLH, the reaction mechanism of which has been estab- lished. It is a two-step process consisting in the Mg-ATP- dependent activation of the enzyme, which implies the formation of a ternary complex of subunits cHLI and cHLD with ATP-Mg2＋, and Mg2＋ chelation, which is catalyzed by cHLH driven by ATP hydrolysis, cHLI providing ATPase activity to the complex （Tanaka et al., 2011）. In Arabidopsis, cHLH and cHLD are encoded by single genes, whereas two genes, cHLI-I and cHLI-2, encode the two isoforms of cHLI.

The impedance properties in polarized piezoelectric can be described by electric equivalent *** classic circuit used in the literature to describe real systems is formed by one resistor(R),one inductance(L)and one capacitance c connected in series and one capacity(c_(0))connected in parallel with the ***,the equation that describe the resonance and anti-resonance frequencies depends on a complex manner of R,L,c and c_(0).In this work is proposed a simpler model formed by one inductance(L)and one capacity(c)in series;one capacity(c_(0))in parallel;one resistor(R_(p))in parallel and one resistor(Rs)in series with other *** the traditional circuit,the equivalent circuit elements in the proposed model can be simply determined by knowing the experimental values of the resonance frequency fr,anti-resonance frequency fa,impedance module at resonance frequency|Z|,impedance module at anti-resonance frequency|Za|and low frequency capacitance c_(0),without ftting the im-pedance experimental data to the obtained equation.

In the present work,a wavelength-selected plasma imaging analysis system is presented and used to track photons emitted from single-trapped nanoparticles in air at atmospheric *** isolated nanoentities were atomized and excited into plasma state using single nanosecond laser *** use of appropriate wavelength filters alongside time-optimized acquisition settings enabled the detection of molecular and atomic emissions in the *** photon detection efficiency of the imaging line resulted in a signal>400 times larger than the simultaneously-acquired dispersive spectroscopy *** increase in sensitivity outlined the evolution of diverse physicochemical processes at the single particle scale which included heat and momentum transfer from the plasma into the particle as wells as chemical *** imaging detection of excited fragments evidenced different diffusion kinetics and time frames for atoms and molecules and their influence upon both the spectroscopic emission readout and fabrication processes using the plasma as a ***,the origin of molecular species,whether naturally-occurring or derived from a chemical reaction in the plasma,could also be studied on the basis of compositional gradients found on the *** of detection for the inspected species ranged from tens to hundreds attograms,thus leading to an exceptional sensing principle for single nanoentities that may impact several areas of science and technology.

Multiple scattering of elastic waves in realistic media makes that averagefield intensities or energy densities follow diffusive processes. In such regime the successiveP to S energy conversions by distributed random inhomogeneities give rise toequipartition which means that in the phase space the available elastic energy is distributedin averagewith equal amounts among the possible states of P and S waves. Insuch diffusive regime the P to S energy ratio equilibrates in an universal way independentof the particular details of the scattering. It has been demonstrated that averagingthe cross correlations at any two points of an elastic medium subjected to diffuse elasticwavefields leads to the emergence of the Green function, which is the wave fieldthat would be observed at one position if an impulsive load is applied at the other. Inthis work we study the problem of the retrieval of the 2D tensor elastodynamic Greenfunction in an infinite elastic space containing a circular cylinder inclusion. We illuminateisotropically the elastic spacewith plane waves. We assume the spectra for both Pand S waves uniform but such that the energy ratio ES/EP=(a/b)2, which is the onepredicted by equipartition theory in two-dimensions. We then show that the Fouriertransform of azimuthal average of the cross-correlation of motion between two pointswithin an elastic medium is proportional to the imaginary part of the exact Green tensorfunction between these points. The numerical results presented here point out thepossibility of detection and imaging of diffractors and resonant diffractors by crosscorrelation even in presence of attenuation exists.

Duplex stainless steels are being used on applications that require,especially,high corrosion resistance and overall good mechanical properties,such as the naval and oil-gas exploration *** components employed in these industries are usually obtained by machining,however,these alloys have low machinability when compared to conventional stainless *** this work,a study of the wear developed when milling duplex stainless-steel,LDX 2101,is going to be presented and evaluated,employing four types of milling tools with different geometries and coatings,while studying the influence of feed rate and cutting length in the wear of these *** used have been provided with two and four flutes,as well as three different coatings,namely:TiAln,TiAlSin and *** cutting behavior of these tools was analyzed;data relative to the cutting forces developed during the process were obtained;and roughness measurements of the machined surfaces were *** tools were then submitted to scanning electron microscope(SEM)analysis,enabling the identification of the wear mechanisms that tools were subjected to when machining this material,furthermore,the early stages of these mechanisms were also *** this work was done with the goal of relating the machining parameters and cutting force values obtained,identifying,and discussing the wear patterns that were observed in the coating and tools after the milling tests,providing further information on the machining of these alloys.
