Brazil was one of the countries most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic,with a cumulative total of nearly 700,000 deaths by early *** country's federative units were unevenly affected by the pandemic and adopted mitigation measures of different scopes and *** was intense conflict between the federal government and state governments over the relevance and extent of such *** build a simple regression model with good predictive power on state COVID-19 mortality rates in *** results reveal that the federative units'urbanization rate and per capita income are important for determining their mean mortality rate and that the number of physicians per 100,000 inhabitants is important for modeling the mortality rate *** on the fitted model,we obtain approximations for the levels of administrative efficiency of local governments in dealing with the pandemic.

Concrete members historically have used either pre-stressed steel or steel bars. In recent years there has been an increased interest in the use of fiber reinforced polymer （FRP） materials. However, the flexure behavior of a hybrid system reinforced by the combination of pre-stressed steel and glass fiber reinforced （GFRP） is still relatively unknown. The purpose of this work is to study this. Two slabs of 100 and 150-millimeter thickness, with a span of 2.1 m reinforced with both pre-stressing steel and GFRP were constructed and tested to failure using ACI 318-11 and ACI 440.1 R-15. The concrete had strength of 31 MPa and the slabs were respectively reinforced with 5#4 bars and 3#5 bars. Each slab had 37.41 mm2 prestressing wire with a failure stress of 1722.5 MPa. The experimental flexural strength and deflection of slabs were compared with their respective sizes theoretical slabs. The theoretical slabs were either reinforced with pre-stressed steel or GFRP rebars, or a hybrid system. It was found that the hybrid system produces better results.

BACKGROUND： Fibromyalgia （FMs） is a syndrome characterized by chronic widespread musculoskeletal pain, whose etiology is not completely understood. Different therapeutic approaches have been used with inconsistent results. This observation does not invalidate the continued search for alternative treatments aimed at improving quality of life （QoL） in FMs. OBJECTIVE： This study compared three classica acupuncture （AC）, electroacupuncture （EAC） and promotion of QoL in FMs patients. traditional Chinese medicine （TCM） therapies： moxibustion （MX） in the management of pain and DEsIGN, sETTING, PARTICIPANTs AND INTERVENTIONs： A preliminary, group-assigned, comparative study enrolled 30 women, mean age （46.90_＋9.24） years （range 20-60 years）, who met the 1990 American College of Rheumatology criteria for FMs diagnosis and a pain-pressure threshold （PPT）〈 4 kg/cm2. The study was conducted in a teaching tertiary-care medical institution from May 2010 through April 2012. AC, EAC and MX were delivered for 30 min, once a week, for 8 weeks, bilaterally at Neiguan （PC6）, Hegu （LI4）, Yanglingquan （GB34）, sanyinjiao （sP6） and Taichong （LR3） acupoints. MAIN OUTCOME MEAsUREs： Each week, immediately before treatment and after treatment, subjects were tested for PPTs, Wong-Baker Faces Pain scale （WBFPs; for pain intensity） and Medical Outcomes study 36-item short Form Health survey （sF-36： for QoL）. REsULTs： There was no significant improvement in pain or reduction of tender points in any of the groups studied, at the end of the 8th session. significant improvement of QoL was perceived in vitality （after AC treatment） and in mental health （after EAC and MX treatments）. CONCLUsION： TCM therapies （AC, EAC and MX） promoted an improvement in the QoL in two areas （vitality and mental health） in FMs women. Further large-scale clinical trials are required to confirm this effect.

Objective: To investigate the effects of Agave sisalana(A. sisalana) extract on Aedes aegypti(Ae. aegypti) primary cell ***: Cells of Ae. aegypti were exposed to different concentrations of A. sisalana crude extract(0.18–6.00 mg/m L) for 24 h. Then, the cells were labeled with propidium iodide and subjected to fluorescence microscopy to verify cell viability. In addition, nitric oxide production was ***: Results showed that cells exposed to 6 mg/m L of the crude extract presented a greater percentage of death when compared to control(73.8% ± 9.6% vs. 34.6% ± 9.6%).Furthermore, there was an increase in the nitric oxide production in cells exposed to 6 mg/m L of A. sisalana crude extract [(0.81 ± 0.08) mmol/L] compared to control group[(0.41 ± 0.18) mmol/L].Conclusions: The results show that A. sisalana is cytotoxic to Ae. aegypti and may be used as raw material for new eco-friendly and inexpensive insecticides, since sisal industry discards the liquid waste for the extraction of plant fiber.

In the last years, the types of devices used to access information systems have notably increased using different operating systems, screen sizes, interaction mechanisms, and software features. This device fragmentation is an important issue to tackle when developing native mobile service front-end applications. To address this issue,we propose the generation of native user interfaces(UIs) by means of model transformations, following the modelbased user interface(MBUI) paradigm. The resulting MBUI framework, called LIZARD, generates applications for multiple target platforms. LIZARD allows the definition of applications at a high level of abstraction, and applies model transformations to generate the target native UI considering the specific features of target platforms. The generated applications follow the UI design guidelines and the architectural and design patterns specified by the corresponding operating system manufacturer. The objective is not to generate generic applications following the lowest-common-denominator approach, but to follow the particular guidelines specified for each target device. We present an example application modeled in LIZARD, generating different UIs for Windows Phone and two types of Android devices(smartphones and tablets).

Voltage source converters have become the main enabler for the integration of distributed energy resources in *** the case of islanded operation,these devices normally set the amplitude and frequency of the network voltage by means of a cascade controller composed of an outer voltage control loop and an inner current control *** strategies to compute the gains of both control loops have been proposed in the literature in order to obtain a fast and decoupled response of the voltages at the point of common *** paper proposes an alternative and simple methodology based on the introduction of a virtual conductance in the classic cascade *** strategy allows to design each control loop independently,obtaining a closed-loop response of a first-order *** this way,the gains of each control loop are easily derived from the parameters of the LC coupling filter and the desired closed-loop time ***,a state observer is included in the controller to estimate the inductor current of the LC filter in order to reduce the number of required measurements.A laboratory testbed is used to validate and compare the proposed *** experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposal both in steady-state and transient regimes.

Duplex stainless steels are being used on applications that require,especially,high corrosion resistance and overall good mechanical properties,such as the naval and oil-gas exploration *** components employed in these industries are usually obtained by machining,however,these alloys have low machinability when compared to conventional stainless *** this work,a study of the wear developed when milling duplex stainless-steel,LDX 2101,is going to be presented and evaluated,employing four types of milling tools with different geometries and coatings,while studying the influence of feed rate and cutting length in the wear of these *** used have been provided with two and four flutes,as well as three different coatings,namely:TiAlN,TiAlsiN and *** cutting behavior of these tools was analyzed;data relative to the cutting forces developed during the process were obtained;and roughness measurements of the machined surfaces were *** tools were then submitted to scanning electron microscope(sEM)analysis,enabling the identification of the wear mechanisms that tools were subjected to when machining this material,furthermore,the early stages of these mechanisms were also *** this work was done with the goal of relating the machining parameters and cutting force values obtained,identifying,and discussing the wear patterns that were observed in the coating and tools after the milling tests,providing further information on the machining of these alloys.
