Enhanced light-matter interactions are the basis of surface-enhanced infrared absorption(SEIRA)spectroscopy,and conventionally rely on plasmonic materials and their capability to focus light to nanoscale spot *** polariton nanoresonators made of polar crystals could represent an interesting alternative,since they exhibit large quality factors,which go far beyond those of their plasmonic *** recent emergence of van der Waals crystals enables the fabrication of highquality nanophotonic resonators based on phonon polaritons,as reported for the prototypical infrared-phononic material hexagonal boron nitride(h-BN).In this work we use,for the first time,phonon-polariton-resonant h-BN ribbons for SEIRA spectroscopy of small amounts of organic molecules in Fourier transform infrared ***,the interaction between phonon polaritons and molecular vibrations reaches experimentally the onset of the strong coupling regime,while numerical simulations predict that vibrational strong coupling can be fully *** polariton nanoresonators thus could become a viable platform for sensing,local control of chemical reactivity and infrared quantum cavity optics experiments.

Duplex stainless steels are being used on applications that require,especially,high corrosion resistance and overall good mechanical properties,such as the naval and oil-gas exploration *** components employed in these industries are usually obtained by machining,however,these alloys have low machinability when compared to conventional stainless *** this work,a study of the wear developed when milling duplex stainless-steel,LDX 2101,is going to be presented and evaluated,employing four types of milling tools with different geometries and coatings,while studying the influence of feed rate and cutting length in the wear of these *** used have been provided with two and four flutes,as well as three different coatings,namely:TiAlN,TiAlSiN and *** cutting behavior of these tools was analyzed;data relative to the cutting forces developed during the process were obtained;and roughness measurements of the machined surfaces were *** tools were then submitted to scanning electron microscope(SEM)analysis,enabling the identification of the wear mechanisms that tools were subj.cted to when machining this material,furthermore,the early stages of these mechanisms were also *** this work was done with the goal of relating the machining parameters and cutting force values obtained,identifying,and discussing the wear patterns that were observed in the coating and tools after the milling tests,providing further information on the machining of these alloys.

Compost Input Effect on Dryland Wheat and Forage Yields and Soil Quality

Organic agricultural systems rely on organic amendments to achieve crop fertility requirements, and weed control must be achieved without synthetic herbicides. Our obj.ctive was to determine the crop yield and soil quality as affected by a transition from grass to dryland organic agriculture in the Central Great Plains of North America. This study evaluated three beef feedlot compost(BFC)treatments in 2010–2015 following biennial application rates: 0(control), 22.9, and 108.7 t ha^(-1) on two dryland organic cropping systems: a wheat(Triticum aestivum)-fallow(WF) rotation harvested for grain and a triticale(Triticosecale)/pea(Pisum sativum)-fallow(T/P-F) rotation harvested for forage. The triticale + pea biomass responded positively to the 108.7-t ha^(-1) BFC treatment,but not the 22.9-t ha^(-1) BFC treatment. The wheat biomass was not affected by BFC addition, but biomass N content *** feedlot compost input did not increase wheat grain yields, but had a positive effect on wheat grain Zn content. Soil total C and N contents increased with the rate of 108.7 t ha^(-1) BFC after three applications, but not with 22.9 t ha^(-1) BFC. Soil enzyme activities associated with N and C cycling responded positively to the 108.7-t ha^(-1) BFC treatment. Saturated salts were high in the soil receiving 108.7 t ha^(-1) of BFC, but did not affect crop yields. These results showed that BFC was effective in enhancing forage yields, wheat grain quality, and soil C and N, as well as specific microbial enzymes important for nutrient cycling. However, the large rates of BFC necessary to elicit these positive responses did not increase grain yields, and resulted in an excessive buildup of soil P.

用固相烧结法制备Ti6Al4V/xTiN(x=0,5,10,15,体积分数,%)复合材料,研究材料的腐蚀与腐蚀磨损行为及其与显微组织和显微硬度的关系。采用37℃和模拟体液模拟人体环境。结果表明,当TiN含量为15%时,氮(N)固溶到钛(Ti)晶格中使α-Ti稳定化,该显微组织的改变使Ti64基体的硬化效应达到58%。随着TiN颗粒的加入,复合材料的腐蚀电位变得更高,而腐蚀电流密度受残余孔隙率的影响而增大,使材料的耐腐蚀性降低。然而,含15%TiN样品的钝化行为减弱。复合材料的非钝化行为导致其在腐蚀磨损测试过程中电位降低。此外,固溶强化使复合材料的磨损率降低88%。研究结果有利于理解材料的成分和烧结参数与提高腐蚀磨损性能之间的关系。

Multi-obj.ctive optimization design of bridge piers with hybrid heuristic algorithms

This paper describes one approach to the design of reinforced concrete (RC) bridge piers, using a three-hybrid multi- obj.ctive simulated annealing (SA) algorithm with a neighborhood move based on the mutation operator from the genetic algorithms (GAs), namely MOSAMO1, MOSAMO2 and MOSAMO3. The procedure is applied to three obj.ctive functions: the economic cost, the reinforcing steel congestion and the embedded CO 2 emissions. Additional results for a random walk and a descent local search multi-obj.ctive algorithm are presented. The evaluation of solutions follows the Spanish Code for structural concrete. The methodology was applied to a typical bridge pier of 23.97 m in height. This example involved 110 design variables. Results indicate that algorithm MOSAMO2 outperforms other algorithms regarding the definition of Pareto fronts. Further, the proposed procedure will help structural engineers to enhance their bridge pier designs.

Agglomerate behavior in a recirculating fluidized bed with sheds： Effect of ring baffles

The radioactive particle tracking technique was used to study the effect of internal ring baffles on wet agglomerate motion inside a cold flow recirculating fluidized bed. The study found that using such a baffle on its own or above the regular sheds helps reduce the fouling of the stripper section by increasing the residence time that the agglomerates spend above the baffle, thereby reducing the release of the vapors below the baffles that cause fouling of the sheds. Adding down-comers, or flux tubes, to the ring baffles degrades the performance of the baffles, Reducing the length of the flux tubes, so that they do not reach the bottom of the baffle lip results in a further degradation in baffle performance.

A Numerical Study of Several Species Population Models

This work considers a special case of Lotka-Volterra equations, which means that in the system of two ordinary differential equations, we take the four parameters equal to one. The reason is that we want j.st to illustrate the procedure to reduce that system to only one ordinary differential equation, such that we know its analytical solution. This idea will be applied to study the relations between a system of three ordinary differential equations, and a couple of partial differential equations. Lotka-Volterra equations are solved numerically by a fourth-order predictor-corrector method, which is initialized by an improved Euler method with a rather small time step because it is only a second-order algorithm. Then, it is proposed a model with three species, defined by ordinary differential equations.
