This article sheds light on how synergies arise through mergers and acquisitions (M&A). Enterprises go through the process of Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) with the goal of improving performance, increasing efficiency and obtaining business synergy. Prior literature suggests that synergies could arise due to taxes, market power or efficiency improvements. This study evaluates the efficiency of M&A in Brazil among publicly-traded companies. We used models with multiple objectives from Goal Programming and Data Envelopment Analysis (GPdeA), employing accounting indicators as input and output variables, and thus evaluated the emergence of synergy gains. These models allow us to analyze and classify the M&A according to the efficiency obtained in such processes. Some of the M&A cases analyzed were mistakenly considered efficient when used traditional models. And, as expected, the GPdeA was proved to be superior to classical models;however it was noticed that few of the cases investigated were proved to be effective. We presented a new application for multi-objective approach that can be used to assess mergers and acquisitions. The dualapplication of GPdeA provided a greater understanding of efficiency generation in synergy creation by means of M&A.

In this paper, we study the large time behavior of solutions of the parabolic semilinear equation δtu-div（a（x）△↓u） = -｜u｜^αu in （0,∞） × R^N, where α 〉 0 is constant and a∈ Cb^1（R^N） is a symmetric periodic matrix satisfying some ellipticity *** an integrable initial data u0 and α ∈ （2/N, 3/N）, we prove that the large time behavior of solutions is given by the solution U（t, x） of the homogenized linear problem δtU-div（a^h△↓U）=0,U（0） = C, where a^h is the homogenized matrix of a（x）, C is a positive constant and δ is the Dirac measure at 0.

Background The Cerrado is the most biodiverse savanna and maintains other *** of its significance,this paper evaluated the Brazilian Cerrado’s climatic,environmental,and socioeconomic aspects using remote sensing data and spatial statistics(correlation analysis and principal components analysis—PCA).Following the measures of sample adequacy(MSA)and Kaiser–Meyer–Olkin(KMO)tests,seventeen variables were *** The MSA revealed that the dataset had a good quality(0.76),and nine variables were selected:elevation,evapotranspiration,active fires,Human development Index(HDI),land use and land cover(LULC;shrubland and cropland/rainfed),rainfall(spring and autumn),and *** correlation matrix indicated a positive(negative)association between HDI and autumn rainfall(HDI and active fires)with a value of 0.77(-0.55).The PCA results determined which three principal components(PC)were adequate for extracting spatial patterns,accounting for 68.02%of the total variance with respective values of 38.59%,16.89%,and 12.5%.Due to economic development and agribusiness,Cerrado’s northern(central,western,and southern)areas had negative(positive)score HDI values,as shown in ***(rainfall—spring and fall)and environmental(cropland/rainfed and shrubland)aspects dominated the PC2,with negative scores in northern and western portions due to the transition zone between Amazon and Cerrado biomes caused by rainfall *** the other hand,environmental aspects(LULC-shrubland and elevation)influenced the PC3;areas with high altitudes(>500 m)received a higher *** Agricultural expansion substantially affected LULC,leading to deforestation-caused suppression of native vegetation.

Water scarcity threatens global food security and agricultural systems are challenged to achieve high yields while optimizing water *** deficit can be accentuated by soil physical degradation,which also triggers water losses through runoff and consequently soil *** soil health in cropping systems within the Brazilian Cerrado biome have been surveyed throughout the years,information about soil erosion impacts and its mitigation are still not well understood;especially concerning the role of cropping system diversification and its effects on crop ***,the aim of this study was to assess whether ecological intensification of cropping systems-inclusion of a consorted perennial grass and crop rotation-could promote soil coverage and consequently decrease water erosion and soil,water,and nutrient *** work studied the effects of crop rotation and consorted Brachiaria,along with different levels of investment in fertilization on soil physical quality and on soil,water,and nutrient losses,and crop *** proved that soybean monoculture(SS)is a system of low sustainability even under no-till in the Brazilian Cerrado *** exhibited high susceptibility to soil,water,and nutrient losses,causing low crop *** results showed that water losses in SS cropping system were approximately 10%of the total annual rainfall,and total K losses would require an additional 35%of K ***,ecological intensification of cropping systems resulted in enhanced soil environmental and agronomic functions,increased grain yield,and promoted soil and water conservation:high soil cover rate,and low soil,water and nutrient *** intensification proved to be an adequate practice to boost crop resilience to water deficit in the Brazilian Cerrado.

This research aimed to analyze the possibility to estimate and automatically map large areas of soybean cultivation through the use of MODIS(Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer)*** major techniques were used:GEOgraphic-Object-Based Image Analysis(GEOBIA)and Data Mining(DM).In order to obtain the images,the segmentation algorithm implemented by definiens developer was used.A decision tree(DT)was created from a training set previously ***-series of images from the MODIS sensor aboard the Terra satellite were acquired in order to represent the wide variation of the vegetation pattern along the soybean crop *** time-series data were used only for the CEI ***,to compare the results obtained from GEOBIA,the slicing technique was used at the CEI *** the training,the DT was applied to the vegetation indices generating the thematic map of the spatial distribution of *** accordance with the error matrix and kappa parameter analysis,tests for statistical significance were *** indicate that the classification achieved by Kappa coefficients is *** short,the obtained results proved that combining vegetation indices and time-series data using GEOBIA return promising results for mapping soybean plantation on a regional scale.

The aims of this study were:i)to compare no-till areas in two municipalities located in different regions of Brazil,along with the influence on CO_(2)Flux and GPP,and ii)to verify the difference between environmental factors followed by the trends of these variables regarding future scenarios(ARIMA time-series model number).The study was carried out in two areas with different latitudes in the municipalities of Sinop-MT and Passo Fundo-RS,both in Brazil.A time series of 19 years was performed with data acquired by remote sensing from the following satellites:i)Landsat-8(OLI and TIRS),and ii)TERRA/AQUA(MODIS).The results propound that the spectro-temporal variables are directly influenced by soil management and agricultural practices over the observation time,with a satisfactory correlation in future predictions of the variables for the next ten years,in which presented that the variation of GPP and albedo values for the two study sites would gradually increase until 2028 and the temperature remained constant between the range of its seasonality,and CO_(2)Flux tends to decrease in its seasonality,indicating a higher CO_(2) absorption.

In the last years, the production of optical fibers cables has made possible the development of a range of spectroscopic probes for in situ analysis performing beyond nondestructive tests, environmental monitoring, security investigation, application in radiotherapy for dose monitoring, verification and validation. In this work, a system using an optical fiber cable to electromagnetic signal transmission from a NaI（TI） radiation detector is presented. The innovative device takes advantage mainly of the optical fibers large passband, small signal attenuation and immunity to electromagnetic interference to application for radiation detection systems. The main aim was to simplify the detection system making it to reach areas where the conventional device cannot access due to its lack of mobility and external dimensions. Some tests with this innovative system are presented and the results stimulate the continuity of the researches.

As forests in neotropical regions,particularly in developing countries,are devastated,interventions to restore biodiversity and its ecological functions are *** producers have thus been encouraged to grow trees for wood production as an economic *** objective of this study was to quantify the increment of wood density of four forest species from different successional classes of a mixed system of restoration in a neotropical forest in *** discs were sampled at breast height and analyzed radially by X-ray densitometry to obtain apparent density and basic *** trees each of a species from the pioneer,early and late secondary successional stages and of the dominant species in the climax *** radial profiles indicated increasing density from the pith to bark of trunks,except for some variations due to wood defects and *** density was 0.576 g cm^(-3),0.655 g cm^(-3),0.706 g cm^(-3)and 0.775 g cm^(-3),respectively,for Peltophorum dubium,Schinus terebinthifolius,Cariniana estrellensis and Hymenaea *** profiles indicated higher amplitudes in the apparent densities for slow-growing species.X-ray densitometry generated parameters such as minimum,average and maximum densities,and radial density *** parameters are important for understanding the ecological functional role of successional classes of the Atlantic Forest from the Neotropical region.
