The search for common characteristics between the musical abilities of humans and other animal species is still taking its frst *** of the most promising aspects from a comparative point of view is the analysis of rhythmic components,which are crucial features of human communicative performance but also well-identifable patterns in the vocal displays of other ***,the study of rhythm is becoming essential to understand the mechanisms of singing behavior and the evolution of human *** fndings provided evidence that particular rhythmic structures occur in human music and some singing animal species,such as birds and rock hyraxes,but only 2 species of nonhuman primates have been investigated so far(Indri indri and Hylobates lar).Therefore,our study aims to consistently broaden the list of species studied regarding the presence of rhythmic *** investigated the temporal organization in the singing of 3 species of crested gibbons(Nomascus gabriellae,Nomascus leucogenys,and Nomascus siki)and found that the most prominent rhythmic category was ***,we found slight variation in songs’tempo among species,with *** and *** singing with a temporal pattern involving a gradually increasing tempo(a musical accelerando),and *** with a more regular ***,we show how the prominence of a peak at the isochrony establishes itself as a shared characteristic in the small apes considered so far.

Analysis and Modeling of Slope Stability in the Three-Gorges Dam Reservoir (China)——The case of Huangtupo Landslide

The water level in the Three Gorges Dam reservoir is expected to change between the elevations of 145 m and 175 m, as a function of the flood control implementation and the intensity of the annual flood. As a matter of fact, the hydraulical and mechanical loadings, related to the water level modifications, will result in alterations in the slope stability conditions. The town of Badong (Hubei), of 20 000 inhabitants, is one of the towns which was submerged by the impoundment of the reservoir. As a consequence, the new town of Badong was constructed on a nearby site which appeared to be partly an unstable site. A part of this site corresponds to an old landslide, the Huangtupo landslide, the base of which had to be submerged by the water of the reservoir. The analysis of the Huangtupo landslide, taking into account various events scenarios, drainage and reinforcement measures and monitoring devices, allows to illustrate the general process implemented all along the reservoir in order to mitigate the landslide hazard.

Interleukin-6 role in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma progression

Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a pleiotropic cytokine which plays an important role in a num-ber of cellular processes including proliferation, survival, differentiation, migration and inva-sion. IL-6 mediates its downstream effects by activating a number of signaling cascades including JAK/STAT, PI3K/AKT and MAPK pathways. In addition to its effects on tumor cells, IL-6 also regulates tumor progression and tumor metastasis by modulating tumor angiogenesis and tumor lymphangiogenesis. A number of studies have shown that IL-6 levels are markedly upregulated in cancer patients. We and others have shown that high IL-6 expression indepen-dently predicts tumor recurrence, tumor metastasis and poor survival in head and neck cancer patients. Therefore targeting IL-6 signaling is a potential therapeutic strategy for the treat-ment of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). In this review, we discuss the cur-rent understanding of the role of IL-6 in HNSCC progression and potential therapeutic strategies to target IL-6 signaling for the treatment of head and neck cancer patients. Atomic force microscopy correlates antimetastatic potentials of HepG2 cell line with its redox/energy status: effects of curcumin and Khaya senegalensis

OBJECTIVE： The fatality of cancer is mostly dependent on the possibility of occurrence of metastasis. Thus, if the development of metastasis can be prevented through novel therapeutic strategies targeted against this process, then the success of cancer treatment will drastically increase. In this study, therefore, we evaluated the antimetastatic potentials of an extract of Khaya senegalensis and curcumin on the metastatic liver cell line HepG2, and also assessed the anticancer property of the extract. METHODS： Cells were cultured and treated with graded concentrations of test substances for 24, 48, or 72 h with provisions made for negative controls. Treated cells were assessed as follows： nanotechnologically--atomic force microscopy （AFM） was used to determine cell stiffness; biochemically--cell cytotoxicity, glutathione level and adenosine triphosphate status, caspase activation and mitochondrial toxicity were considered; and microbiologically--a carrot disk assay was used to assess the anticancer property of the extract of K. senegalensis. RESULTS： Curcumin and K. senegalensis increased the cell stiffness by 2.6- and 4.0-fold respectively, indicating their antimetastatic effects. Corresponding changes in redox （glutathione level） and energy （adenosine triphosphate） status of the cells were also demonstrated. Further mechanistic studies indicated that curcumin was not mitotoxic in HepG2 cells unlike the K. senegalensis extract. In addition the extract potently inhibited the Agrobacterium tumefaciens-induced genetic transformation based on carrot disk assay. CONCLUSION： Cell elasticity measurement data, using AFM, strongly suggested, for the first time, that both curcumin and the extract of K. senegalensis exhibited antimetastatic properties on HepG2 cells.

Experimental Study of Partial Melting of Mantle Peridotite -A Discussion about the Genesis of Sih'ca-rich Fluids (Melts)

Experiments on partial melting of mantle lherzolite have been realized at 0.6 and 1.0 GPa and the chemical compositional variations of melts during different melting stages have been first discussed. The results show that the trends of variations in SiO2, caO, Al2O3, Na2O and TiO2 are different at different melting stages. The melts produced at lower pressure are richer in SiO2 than those at higher pressure. The mantle-derived silica-rich fluids (silicate melts) are polygenetic, but the basic and intermediate-acid silicate melts in mantle peridotite xenoliths from the same host rocks, which have equivalent contents of volatile and alkali components and different contents of other components, should result from in-situ (low-degree) partial melting of mantle peridotite under different conditions (e.g. at different depths, with introduction of C-O-H fluids or in the presence of metasomatic minerals). The intermediate-acid melts may be the result of partial melting (at lower pressure) Opx + Sp + K-Na-rich fluid ±(Am-phi) ± (Phlog) = OI + melt. But the intermediate-acid magmas cannot be produced from the partial melting of normal mantle peridotite unless the crustal materials are introduced to some extent.

Rapid HPLC Method for Determination of Parachloroaniline in Chlorhexidine Antiseptic Agent in Mouthrinses, Ophthalmic and Skin Solution

We described a simple and rapid method to quantify simultaneously chlorhexidine (CHD) and its major metabolite, para Chloroaniline (pca) by HPLC with UV detection without the additional need of mobile-phase amine modifiers or ion-pairing reagents, with good resolution between pca and CHD, symmetry peak of the compound and short run time. HPLC-UV analyses were performed using a Dionex? Summit liquid chromatograph (Dionex Corp, Sunnyvale, ca, USA). Chromatographic separations were carried out on a Luna? 150 mm×3 mm i.d. column packed with 3 μm CN (cyano) particles (Phenomenex?), guarded by an on-line filter. Mobile phase consist of methanol:water with sodium chloride with 0.02% of formic acid (55:45). Wavelengths for pca and for CHD are 238 and 255 nm respectively. Influence of methanol and of sodium chloride content in the eluant has been studied. Linearity of CHD is very good, from 0.5 up to 21.2 μg/l while linearity of pca is in the range of 0.05 to 10 μg/l with correlation coefficients above 0.999. Resolution between the components is above 4, asymmetry is about 1.3 and 1.7 for pca and CHD respectively and the run time is less than 5 minutes. This method has been applied to CHD solution of different medical devices. No interference has been reported, and the analysis of direct injection of solution, without any treatment is achieved in less than five *** conclusion, we present a validated method for dosage of CHD and its major impurity pca, known to be carcinogen, available into medical products or medicinal device for in-vitro diagnostic.

While emerging data suggest nucleotide oligomerization domain receptor 1(NOD1),a cytoplasmic pattern recognition receptor,may play an important and complementary role in the immune response to bacterial infection,its role in cancer metastasis is entirely ***,we sought to determine the effects of NOD1 on ***1 expression in paired human primary colon cancer,human and murine colon cancer cells were determined using immunohistochemistry and immunoblotting(WB).Clinical significance of NOD1 was assessed using TCGA survival data.A series of in vitro and in vivo functional assays,including adhesion,migration,and metastasis,was conducted to assess the effect of NOD1.C12-iE-DAP,a highly selective NOD1 ligand derived from gram-negative bacteria,was used to activate ***130,a specific NOD1 inhibitor,was used to block C12-iE-DAP *** knockdown(KD)of NOD1 in human colon cancer cells(HT29)was constructed with shRNA lentiviral transduction and the functional assays were thus ***,the predominant signaling pathway of NOD1-activation was identified using WB and functional assays in the presence of specific kinase *** data demonstrate that NOD1 is highly expressed in human colorectal cancer(CRC)and human and murine CRC cell ***,we demonstrate that this increased NOD1 expression negatively impacts survival in patients with ***,we identify NOD1 activation by C12-iE-DAP augments CRC cell adhesion,migration and *** effects are predominantly mediated via the p38 mitogen activated protein kinase(MAPK)*** is the first study implicating NOD1 in cancer metastasis,and thus identifying this receptor as a putative therapeutic target.

Fieldwork along several segments of the Altyn Tagh Fault,between 85 and 95°E,confirms that it ranks as one of the most active faults of *** the East,near Aksay,the active fault trace offsets numerous stream channels,terrace risers and fans tens to hundreds of meters. 14 C dating of organic remains and charcoal within terrace gravels indicates that most of the terraces were emplaced after the beginning of the Holocene,implying a left\|slip rate of about 2cm/*** mole tracks attest to the occurrence of great *** larger mole tracks are found north of Lenghu,within the Altun Shan push\|up,a 6000 m high range in a restraining bend of the fault,now sliced by its most active *** of Huatougou,at the transition between another push\|up mountain and a recent pull\|apart basin,a spectacular sequence of five flat\|floored,hanging channels,beheaded by the fault from a unique source in the mountain,have been horizontally displaced by up to *** dating of the abandonment of these channels and of nearby offset terrace risers confirms the slip\|rate at *** km to the west,pressure ridges exceeding 10m in height across a large young fan,imply the repeat of several great earthquakes in a relatively short time span.
