Impeller hub corner separation flow(IHCS)has a significant influence on energy conversion of the bulb tubular pump,and its unsteady characteristics are investigated with CFD-based *** generation mechanism and power loss characteristics of IHCS are investigated by the entropy production method and pressure fluctuation *** main cause can be attributed to the large transverse pressure gradient near the hub at the trailing edge of the impeller,which is aggravated by the circumferential movement trend and the diffuser reverse flow,while the IHCS is significantly weakened with increased flow *** undesirable flow behavior is more likely to cause a significant increase in energy loss near the hub region compared to that in the rim *** relative vortex stretching induced by the velocity gradient is the main cause of the horn-like vortex(HLV),and its intensity and resulting energy loss tend to decrease along the vortex *** HLV changes the dominant frequency of the pressure fluctuations in the nearby flow field,the value of which increases from 1fr(the blade passing frequency)to 2fr with increased amplitude,mainly due to the lower pressure regions on the impeller suction surface(SS)and HLV vortex *** to the effect of rotor-stator interaction(RSI),the HLVs generated between two adjacent impeller blades are cut into several sections by the diffuser vanes and propagate and dissipate along the mainstream direction.

High temperature slows down growth in tobacco hornworms （Manduca sexta larvae） under food restriction

When fed ad libitum （AL）, ectothermic animals usually grow faster and have higher metabolic rate at higher ambient temperature. However, if food supply is limited, there is an energy tradeoff between growth and metabolism. Here we hypothesize that for ectothermic animals under food restriction （fr）, high temperature will lead to a high metabolic rate, but growth will slow down to compensate for the high metabolism. We measure the rates of growth and metabolism of 4 cohorts of5th instar hornworms （Manduca sexta larvae） reared at 2 levels of food supply （AL and fr） and 2 temperatures （20 and 30 ℃）. Our results show that, compared to the cohorts reared at 20 ℃, the ones reared at 30 ℃ have high metabolic rates under both AL and fr conditions, but a high growth rate under AL and a low growth rate under fr, supporting this hypothesis.

Effects of Cr_2O_3 doping on the electrical properties and the temperature stabilities of PZT binary piezoelectric ceramics

The ceramics with Pb1.04Zr0.52Ti0.48O3 ＋ z wt.% Cr2O3 were prepared using the traditional technique. The effects of Cr2O3 doping on the phase structure, the microstructure, and the electrical properties of ceramics were investigated. Meanwhile, the temperature stabilities of the resonant frequency （fx） were studied. The results showed that the △fr/fr,25℃ decreased with the addition of 0.2 wt.% - 0.8 wt.% Cr2O3 as compared with the undoped samples. The minimum value （-0.182%） of △fr/fr,25℃ was obtained for z = 0.6 wt.% Cr2O3 samples that sintered at 1260℃. The values of ε^τ33/ε0 = 1650, tanδ = 0.006, d33 = 328 pC/N, Kp = 0.63, Qm = 2300 were obtained when Cr2O3 was 0.6 wt.%, which exhibited more excellent piezoelectric properties than other compositions such as those with z = 0.2 wt.%, 0.4 wt.%, and 0.8 wt.%, but had a similar value as compared with the tmdoped samples. When the Cr2O3 additive increased, the Curie temperature moved toward low temperature and the changes of resonant frequency changed from positive to negative with increasing temperature.

Inverted Apical CD24 and Weak EZH2 Expressions Are Phenotypic Characteristics of Pure Invasive Micropapillary Carcinoma of the breast

Invasive micropapillary carcinomas (IMPC) of the breast account for less than 2% of all breast cancers and have been recently described as luminal b carcinomas. CD24, CD44, ALDH1 and EZH2 are commonly used as stem-cell markers that display differential expression as a function of stage and molecular type, but their pattern of expression according to this rare histological type remains poorly defined and unknown for EZH2. We assessed expression of these markers in a series of 28 micropapillary breast carcinomas and compared the results with those obtained in a series of luminal A (27 cases) and b (34 cases) invasive carcinomas not otherwise specified (IC-NST). CD24 and CD44 were expressed in most cases. However, CD24 was expressed at the inverted apical membrane in 85% of invasive micropapillary carcinoma and at the apical pole of gland-forming cells in 45% of luminal A (p-val = 6.8 × 10-4) and 13% of luminal b cases (p-val = 1.1 × 10-7). ALDH1 was expressed in the stroma in most tumors, but in only 25%, 11% and 15% in epithelial cells of IMPC, luminal A and b IC-NST, respectively. Nuclear expression of EZH2 was not observed in luminal A tumors, and was detected in 35% (12/34) of luminal b carcinomas (p-val = 6.1 × 10-3) and only 4% (1/28) of invasive micropapillary carcinomas. This series shows that invasive micropapillary carcinomas harbor a CD24-positive inverted apical pole associated with weak EZH2 expression, phenotypical characteristics that distinguish this entity from other luminal carcinomas.

ISSR markers based on GA and AG repeats reveal genetic relationship among rice varieties tolerant to drought,flood,or salinity

Drought, flood, salinity, or a combination of these limits rice production. Several rice varieties are well known for their tolerance to specific abiotic stresses. We determined genetic relationship among 12 rice varieties including 9 tolerant to drought, flood, or salinity using inter-simple sequence repeat （ISSR） markers. based on all markers, the nine tolerant varieties formed one cluster distinct from the cluster of three control varieties. The salt-tolerant varieties were closest to two flood-tolerant varieties, and together they were distinct from the drought-tolerant varieties. （GA）8YG was the most informative primer, showing the highest polymorphic information content （PIC） and resolving power （Rp）. The drought-, flood-, and salt-tolerant varieties grouped in three distinct clusters within the group of tolerant varieties, when （GA）8YG was used. Sabita was the only exception. The two aus varieties, Nagina22 and fr13A, were separated and grouped with the drought- and flood-tolerant varieties, respectively, hut they were together in dendrograms based on other primers. The results show that ISSR markers associated with （GA）sYG delineated the three groups of stress-tolerant varieties from each other and can be used to identify genes/new alleles associated with the three abiotic stresses in rice germplasm.

In contrast to mammals and birds,fish display an amazing diversity of genetic sex determination systems,with frequent changes during evolution possibly associated with the emergence of new sex chromosomes and sex-determining *** better understand the molecular and evolutionary mechanisms driving this diversity,several fish models are studied in *** the medaka(Oryzias latipes Temminck and Schlegel,1846)for which the master sex-determination gene has been identified,one of the most advanced models for studying sex determination is the Southern platyfish(Xiphophorus maculatus,Günther 1966).Xiphophorus maculatus belongs to the Poeciliids,a family of live-bearing freshwater fish,including platyfish,swordtails and guppies that perfectly illustrates the diversity of genetic sex-determination mechanisms observed in *** ***,bacterial artificial chro-mosome contigs covering the sex-determination region of the X and Y sex chromosomes have been *** molecular analysis demonstrated that the sex-determination region is very unstable and frequently undergoes duplications,deletions,inversions and other *** gene candidates linked to the master sex-determining gene have been identified,some of them corresponding to *** putative genes are present on both the X and the Y chromosomes,suggesting a poor degree of differentiation and a young evolutionary age for platyfish sex *** compared with other fish and tetrapod genomes,syntenies were detected only with *** observation supports an independent origin of sex chromosomes,not only in different vertebrate lineages but also between different fish species.
