Aim:Brain abscess still poses a public health challenge in spite of the advent of modern neurosurgical techniques and ***,we present our surgical experiences and ultimate outcome in the management of brain ***:Totally,162 patients with proved brain abscess who underwent surgical treatment were included in this *** prospectively recorded data of surgical management of brain abscess and the ultimate outcome(by Glasgow outcome scale)were studied ***:Total number of cases was 162,of which 113 were acute pyogenic abscess while 49 were chronic *** the chronic abscess,29 were chronic pyogenic abscess,14 were tubercular,3 aspergillus,and 3 abscesses were in malignant brain *** acute cases,common clinical features were headache,fever,vomiting,focal deficit and *** chronic abscesses,common clinical features were mild to moderate headache and progressive focal ***-three(45.06%)patients had adjacent localized sinus,middle ear or cranial *** common predisposing factors included postneurosurgery,postpenetrating injury to brain,chronic suppurative otitis media,and congenital heart disease,infective endocarditis,sinusitis and sub optimum *** lobe involved in 30.2%cases,temporal lobe is next to *** time burr hole aspiration in 111(68.5%)cases,two or more times burr hole aspiration were done in 34(21%)*** culture was negative in 129(79.62%)*** number of death was 22(13.58%)*** resolution of abscess with complete recovery of preoperative neuro-deficit was seen in 80.86%cases and recovery with major neuro-deficit was observed in 5.55%*** is a significant association between Glasgow coma scale(GCS)on admission and mortality in brain ***:In most of the cases,pus culture did not yield growth of any causative *** was not directly related to surgical intervention,but GCS on admission has a significant

Introduction: The Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 affected all the megacities of the world and made the mental health and lifestyle of people paralyzed. According to different studies, such difficulties were different in scale in different cities depending on the demographic attributes of the people. This phenomenon has created the essence of the current study to examine the health conditions in terms of their mental health, lifestyle, and demographic attributes during and immediate past of the COVID-19 era. Method: It was a cross-sectional study covering the people of Dhaka City Corporation. For this purpose, a multistage sampling method was applied, under which the respondents were selected randomly and a self-administered structured questionnaire was used to collect data. The questionnaire was developed based on the DASS 21, as it was suitable to measure the components of mental health in the form of depression, anxiety, and stress. Descriptive analysis and cross-tabulation were applied to find out the association between dependent and independent variables, whereas, a chi-square test was performed to examine the hypothesis. Finally, multivariate analysis was done to find out the risk factors. Three logistic regression models were developed for three dependent variables. Result: The findings of the analysis revealed that the lifestyle of people had severely influenced the components of their mental health conditions during and immediate past of COVID-19 in the Dhaka City Corporation, which varies to some extent depending on the demographic attributes of those. Conclusion: The above findings are statistically significant enough to conclude about the essence of taking preventive measures regarding mental health issues in the future. Background: The robustness is a measurement of an analytical chemical method and its ability to contain unaffected by little with deliberate variation of analytical chemical method parameters. The analytical chemical method variation parameters are based on pH variability of buffer solution of mobile phase, organic ratio composition changes, stationary phase (column) manufacture, brand name and lot number variation;flow rate variation and temperature variation of chromatographic system. The analytical chemical method for assay of Atropine Sulfate conducted for robustness evaluation. The typical variation considered for mobile phase organic ratio change, change of pH, change of temperature, change of flow rate, change of column etc. Purpose: The aim of this study is to develop a cost effective, short run time and robust analytical chemical method for the assay quantification of Atropine in Pharmaceutical Ophthalmic Solution. This will help to make analytical decisions quickly for research and development scientists as well as will help with quality control product release for patient consumption. This analytical method will help to meet the market demand through quick quality control test of Atropine Ophthalmic Solution and it is very easy for maintaining (GDP) good documentation practices within the shortest period of time. Method: HPLC method has been selected for developing superior method to Compendial method. Both the compendial HPLC method and developed HPLC method was run into the same HPLC system to prove the superiority of developed method. Sensitivity, precision, reproducibility, accuracy parameters were considered for superiority of method. Mobile phase ratio change, pH of buffer solution, change of stationary phase temperature, change of flow rate and change of column were taken into consideration for robustness study of the developed method. Background: Emergence agitation (EA) is a common phenomenon observed in pediatric patients following general anesthesia. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of propofol and fentanyl in preventing EA and to compare their associated complications or side effects. Methods: This prospective randomized observational comparative study was conducted at Dhaka Medical College Hospital from July 2013 to June 2014. The study aimed to evaluate the effects of propofol and fentanyl on EA in children aged 18 to 72 months undergoing circumcision, herniotomy, and polypectomy operations. Ninety children were included in the study, with 45 in each group. Patients with psychological or neurological disorders were excluded. Various parameters including age, sex, weight, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) class, duration of anesthesia, Saturation of Peripheral Oxygen (SPO2), heart rate (HR), respiratory rate (RR), Pediatric Anesthesia Emergence Delirium (PAED) score, duration of post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) stay, incidence of laryngospasm, nausea, vomiting, and rescue drug requirement were compared between the two groups. Results: Age, sex, weight, ASA class, and duration of anesthesia were comparable between the two groups. Perioperative SpO2 and HR were similar in both groups. However, the PAED score was significantly higher in the fentanyl group during all follow-ups except at 30 minutes postoperatively. The mean duration of PACU stay was significantly longer in the fentanyl group. Although the incidence of laryngospasm was higher in the fentanyl group, it was not statistically significant. Conversely, nausea or vomiting was significantly higher in the fentanyl group. The requirement for rescue drugs was significantly higher in the fentanyl group compared to the propofol group. Conclusion: Both propofol and fentanyl were effective in preventing emergence agitation in pediatric patients undergoing various surgical procedures under sevoflurane anesthesia. However, propo

Preparation and Characterization of the Electrospun Alginate Nanofibers

Due to some intrinsic functional behavior of alginate, many potential applications in the healthcare industry especially in wound care sector are observed. Many researches have been carried out to develop potential biomedical biocompatible products in different forms from alginate fibres. Alginate nanofibres were prepared from sodium alginate polymer with the presence of poly-(ethylene oxide) (PEO), a small amount of Triton ×100 surfactant. A homogeneous spinning solution was prepared for producing Na-alginate/PEO nanofibers in electrospinning device. Nanofibres were produced by electrospinning from 70:30 and 80:20 Na-alginate/PEO of 4% solution. After a series of trials, the electrospinning parameters were optimized at 16 cm working distance, 0.4 mL/h flow rate and 10.5 kV applied voltage. The results show that the 4 wt% of 70:30 Na-alginate/PEO solution with 0.5 wt% Triton × 100 surfactant yielded smooth and stable electrospinning. The surface morphology of the fibres was investigated using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and found the uniform fibres with an average diameter of 124 nm containing few thick or spindle-like fibres. FTIR investigation identified the chemical structure and molecular changes that occurred in the fibers.

BACKGROUND Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is a global pandemic putting the population at a high risk of infection-related health hazards,mortality and a potential failure of proper medical ***,it is necessary to evaluate the potential use of the existing drugs that could be used as options for the medical management of COVID-19 *** To evaluate the role of the H_(2) receptor blocker“famotidine”in COVID-19 *** This study was done on seriously ill COVID-19 patients admitted to the intensive care unit(ICU)from different institutes in *** were divided into famotidine treatment group“A”(famotidine 40 mg to 60 mg oral formulation every 8 h with other treatment as given),and control group“B”(treatment as given).National early warning score(NEWS)-2,and sequential organ failure assessment day-1 score was calculated to evaluate the *** were evaluated by the time required for clinical improvement,characterized as duration required from enrollment to the achievement of NEWS-2 of≤2 maintained for 24 h;time to symptomatic recovery,defined as the duration in days(from randomization)required for the recovery of the COVID-19 symptoms;mortality rate;duration of ICU and hospital stay;total period of hospitalization;the rate of supplementary oxygen requirement;the computed tomography(CT)chest recovery(%),the time required for the viral clearance and“NEWS-2”on *** A total of 208 patients were enrolled in this study with 104 patients in each *** famotidine treatment group had comparatively better recovery of 75%and a low mortality of 25%than the control with a recovery of 70%and a mortality of 30%.Duration of clinical improvement(group A 9.53 d,group B 14.21 d);hospitalization period among the recovered patients(group A 13.04 d,group B 16.31 d),pulmonary improvement in chest CT(group A 21.7%,group B 13.2%),and the time for viral clearance(group A 20.7 d,group B 23.8 d)were found to be statistically si

Study on the Presence of Filament Yarn in Jamdani Saree in Bangladesh

Jamdani weaving is one of the oldest heredities of Bangladesh. From the beginning 100% cotton yarn was used to produce high quality jamdani saree. The weavers were the finest with weaving skills. Higher yarn count yarns were used to weave the jamdani saree. In course of time at present manmade fibres are also used to produce jamdani saree. The use of filament yarn may have eased the manufacturing difficulties, but the jamdani saree is missing its originality without 100% cotton. In this project, random jamdani saree sample was collected to identify the fibre composition. Samples of filament were also collected from the manufacturer and tested. It was evident that instead of cotton yarn in warp and weft silk and polyester filament yarn were used.

Medicinal values of aquatic plant genus Nymphoides grown in Asia: A review

Nymphoides is an aquatic genus consisting about 50 species, of which few were accepted as traditional medicinal plants in Asia. The literature review revealed that Nymphoides species are widely used in Ayurvedic medicine as a popular drug, i.e. Tagara. They are also utilized by the traditional local healers of different Asian countries to treat various diseases, like convulsion, jaundice, fever, headache, etc. According to the in vivo and in vitro pharmacological studies, Nymphoides species have been claimed to possess major biological activities like anticonvulsant, antioxidant, hepatoprotective, cytotoxic, antitumor, etc. Biochemical profiling of different aquatic plants of this genus revealed the presence of some important phytochemicals as polyphenolic component, flavonoids, triterpenes, carbohydrates, glycosides, etc. Several valuable bioactive compounds including ephedrine, coumarin, secoiridoid glucosides, methyl quercetin, ferulic acid, foliamenthoic acid, etc. were also known to be isolated and identified from different Nymphoides species. The aim of this review is to analyze the published report based on the medicinal values of different Asian Nymphoides species, to provide the updated information about the ethnomedicinal, pharmacological as well as the phytochemical properties for the first time.
