A high degree of uncertainty with regard to soil parameterisation limits the significance of physically-based simulation of distributed flood control measures, which affect the runoff generation process, such as land-use changes or differing soil tillage practices. In this study, the soil measurement data from the hillslope scale at the Scheyern research farm were compared to demonstrate this uncertainty. To account for the spatial variability of soils in the investigation area of Scheyern, different approaches were applied to estimate soil hydraulic properties and saturated hydraulic conductivity, and were compared to field measurements

Sites of implantation with compromised biology may be unable to achieve the required level of angiogenic and osteogenic regeneration. The specific function and contribution of different cell types to the formation of prevascularized, osteogenic networks in co-culture remains unclear. To determine how bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells （bMSCs） and endothelial cells （ECs） contribute to cellular proangiogenic differentiation, we analysed the differentiation of bMSCs and ECs in standardized monolayer, Transwell and co-cultures. bMSCs were derived from the iliac bone marrow of five patients, characterized and differentiated in standardized monolayers, permeable Transwells and co-cultures with human umbilical vein ECs （HUVECs）. The expression levels of CD31, von Willebrand factor, osteonectin （ON） and runx2 were assessed by quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. The protein expression of alkaline phosphatase, ON and CD31 was demonstrated via histochemical and immunofluorescence analysis. The results showed that bMSCs and HUVECs were able to retain their lineage-specific osteogenic and angiogenic differentiation in direct and indirect co-cultures. In addition, bMSCs demonstrated a supportive expression of angiogenic function in co-culture, while HUVEC was able to improve the expression of osteogenic marker molecules in bMSCs.

This study introduces a method to predict the remaining useful life(rUL)of plain bearings operating under stationary,wear-critical *** this method,the transient wear data of a coupled elastohydrodynamic lubrication(mixed-EHL)and wear simulation approach is used to parametrize a statistical,linear degradation *** method incorporates bayesian inference to update the linear degradation model throughout the runtime and thereby consider the transient,system-dependent wear progression within the rUL prediction.A case study is used to show the suitability of the proposed *** results show that the method can be applied to three distinct types of post-wearing-in behavior:wearing-in with subsequent hydrodynamic,stationary wear,and progressive wear *** hydrodynamic operation leads to an infinite lifetime,the method is successfully applied to predict rUL in cases with stationary and progressive wear.

With the increased use of automotive engine start-stop systems,the numerical prediction and reduction of frictional losses in sliding bearings during starting and stopping procedures has become an important *** engineering practice,numerical simulations of sliding bearings in automotive engines are performed with statistical asperity contact models with empirical values for the necessary surface *** aim of this study is to elucidate the applicability of these approaches for the prediction of friction in sliding bearings subjected to start-stop *** this purpose,the friction performance of sliding bearings was investigated in experiments on a test rig and in transient mixed elasto-hydrodynamic simulations in a multi-body simulation environment(mixed-EHL/MbS).In mixed-EHL/MbS,the extended reynold’s equation with flow factors according to Patir and Cheng has been combined on the one hand with the statistical asperity contact model according to Greenwood and Tripp and on the other hand with the deterministic asperity contact model according to *** detailed comparison of simulation and experimental results clarifies that the application of statistical asperity contact models with empirical values of the necessary inputs leads to large deviations between experiment and *** actual distribution and position of surface roughness,as used in deterministic contact modelling,is necessary for a reliable prediction of the frictional losses in sliding bearings during start-stop operation.

Colorectal cancer remains one of the commonest and most lethal malignancies worldwide(1).Up to 80%of patients with colorectal cancer develop liver metastases(CrLM),which are the main factor limiting survival(1,2).Despite advances in systemic therapy and the emergence of multimodal treatment concepts,curative surgical resection remains the best therapeutic option and provides the highest chance of long-term survival(1,2).However,liver resection is associated with perioperative morbidity and mortality,while multiple factors affect long-term prognosis(3,4).As a result,various predictive models have been developed over time,to improve preoperative patient selection and foresee unfavourable outcomes.

Some true bug species use droplet-shaped,open-capillary structures for passive,unidirectional fluid transport on their body surface in order to spread a defensive fluid to protect themselves against *** this paper we investigated if the shape of the structures found on bugs(bug-structure)could be optimised with regard to better performance in unidirectional fluid ***,to use this kind of surface structure in technical applications where fluid surface interaction occurs,it is necessary to adapt the structure geometry to the contact angle between fluid and *** on the principal of operation of the droplet-shaped structures,we optimised the structure shape for better performance in targeted fluid flow and increase in flexibility in design of the structure *** adapt the structure geometry and the structure spacing to the contact angle,we implemented an equilibrium simulation of the,the structure surrounding,*** order to verify the functionality of the optimised structure,we designed and manufactured a *** testing this prototype with pure water used as fluid,the functionality of the optimised structure and the simulation could be *** kind of structure may be used on technical surfaces where targeted fluid transport is needed,*** of condensate in order to prevent the surface from mold growth,microfluidics,lab-on-a-chip applications and on microneedles for efficient drug/vaccine coating.
