This article analyses the literature regarding the value of computer-assisted systems in esogastroduodenoscopy-quality monitoring and the assessment of gastric *** data show promising results in upper-endoscopy quality control and a satisfactory detection accuracy of gastric premalignant and malignant lesions,similar or even exceeding that of experienced ***,artificial systems enable the decision for the best treatment strategies in gastriccancer patient care,namely endoscopic vs surgical resection according to tumor *** so doing,unnecessary surgical interventions would be avoided whilst providing a better quality of life and prognosis for these *** these performance data have been revealed by numerous studies using different artificial intelligence(AI)algorithms in addition to white-light endoscopy or novel endoscopic techniques that are available in expert endoscopy *** is expected that ongoing clinical trials involving AI and the embedding of computer-assisted diagnosis systems into endoscopic devices will enable real-life implementation of AI endoscopic systems in the near future and at the same time will help to overcome the current limits of the computer-assisted systems leading to an improvement in *** benefits should lead to better diagnostic and treatment strategies for gastric-cancer ***,the incorporation of AI algorithms in endoscopic tools along with the development of large electronic databases containing endoscopic images might help in upper-endoscopy assistance and could be used for telemedicine purposes and second opinion for difficult cases.

Adipokines and C-reactive protein in relation to bone mineralization in pediatric nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

AIM: To investigate bone mineral density (BMD) in obese children with and without nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD); and the association between BMD and serum adipokines, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (HSCRP). METHODS: A case-control study was performed. Cases were 44 obese children with NAFLD. The diagnosis of NAFLD was based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with high hepatic fat fraction (≥ 5%). Other causes of chronic liver disease were ruled out. Controls were selected from obese children with normal levels of aminotransferases, and without MRI evidence of fatty liver as well as of other causes of chronic liver diseases. Controls were matched (1-to 1-basis) with thecases on age, gender, pubertal stage and as closely as possible on body mass index-SD score. All participants underwent clinical examination, laboratory tests, and whole body (WB) and lumbar spine (LS) BMD by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry. BMDZ-scores were calcu- lated using race and gender specific LMS curves. RESULTS: Obese children with NAFLD had a significantly lower LS BMDZ-score than those without NAFLD [mean, 0.55 (95%CI: 0.23-0.86) vs 1.29 (95%CI: 0.95-1.63); P < 0.01]. WB BMD Z-score was also decreased in obese children with NAFLD compared to obese children with no NAFLD, though borderline significance was observed [1.55 (95%CI: 1.23-1.87) vs 1.95 (95%CI: 1.67-2.10); P = 0.06]. Children with NAFLD had significantly higher HSCRP, lower adiponectin, but similar leptin levels. Thirty five of the 44 children with MRI-diagnosed NAFLD underwent liver biopsy. Among the children with biopsy-proven NAFLD, 20 (57%) had nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), while 15 (43%) no NASH. Compared to children without NASH, those with NASH had a significantly lower LS BMD Z-score [mean, 0.27 (95%CI: -0.17-0.71) vs 0.75 (95%CI: 0.13-1.39); P < 0.05] as well as a significantly lower WB BMD Z-score [1.38 (95%CI: 0.89-1.17) vs 1.93 (95%CI: 1.32-2.36); P < 0.05]. FTO genotype is associated with body mass index and waist circumference in Mexican young adults

Individual variations in the fat mass and obesity-associated (FTO) gene have been associated with obesity and BMI in diverse populations, but there are no reports in young Mexicans. We explored the association of a common FTO single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP, rs805704) with obesity-related phenotypes in Mexican young adults. The FTO-SNP was genotyped using the fluorescent polarization method in college-age, apparently healthy subjects from the “UP AMIGOS” cohort (n = 251, 18 - 25 yrs). Homozygotes for the A allele (15%, n = 38) were heavier (1.6 kg/m2 and6.2 kg) and had a larger waist circumference (WC,4.8 cm) than G allele carriers. The FTO genotype was associated with BMI, weight and WC independently of age and sex and explained 2.7 to 3.1% of the variance in obesity-related phenotypes. The FTO genotype was also associated with fasting glucose (P = 0.0283). No other associations were found in the additive model. Despite our small sample size, we found that the FTO-rs805704 genotype influences obesity-related phenotypes young Mexicans. Previously observed FTO associations with fasting glucose were replicated. Previously reported associations with other metabolic traits likely represent the long-term consequences of obesity.

A step-by-step protocol for formaldehyde-assisted isolation of regulatory elements from Arabidopsis thaliana

The control of gene expression by transcriptional regulators and other types of functional y relevant DNA transactions such as chromatin remodeling and replication underlie a vast spectrum of biological processes in al organisms. DNA transactions require the control ed interaction of proteins with DNA sequence motifs which are often located in nucleosome-depleted regions （NDRs） of the chromatin. Formaldehyde-assisted isolation of regulatory elements （FAIRE） has been established as an easy-to-implement method for the isolation of NDRs from a number of eukaryotic organisms, and it has been successful y employed for the discovery of new regulatory segments in genomic DNA from, for example, yeast, Drosophila, and humans. Until today, however, FAIRE has only rarely been employed in plant research and currently no detailed FAIRE protocol for plants has been published. Here, we provide a step-by-step FAIRE protocol for NDR discovery in Arabidopsis thaliana. We demonstrate that NDRs isolated from plant chromatin are readily amenable to quantitative polymerase chain reaction and next-generation sequencing. Only minor modification of the FAIRE protocol wil be needed to adapt it to other plants, thus facilitating the global inventory of regulatory regions across species.

Examples of National and Transnational Cinema： Akira Kurosawa＇s Yojimbo and Sergio Leone＇s A Fistful of Dollars

The term transnational originated in the historical field when, in the late 1990s, lan Tyrrell wrote a seminal essay entitled ＂What is Transnational History？＂ and changed the course of the academic discipline, claiming that studying the history of a nation from inside its borders was outmoded because the study of history concerns the movements of peoples, ideas, technologies, and institutions across national boundaries. The study of cross-national influences and the focus on the relationship between nation and factors beyond the nation spilled over into many other fields, especially into cinematic studies. Today transnational refers to the impossibility of assigning a fixed national identity to much cinema, to the dissolution of any stable connection between film＇s place of production and the nationality of its makers and performers. Because there is a lot of critical debate about what constitutes national and transnational cinema, the study of international remakes is a promising method to map the field with some accuracy. This essay will analyze the journey from Hammett＇s novel to Kurosawa＇s film and then to Leone＇s western, and will demonstrate how the process of adaptation functions and what happens to a ＂text＂ when it becomes tmnsnational and polysemic. Because Leone is the creator of the Italian western, the one who initiated the cycle that was copied many times over for a decade, we must look at A Fistful of Dollars as a prototype, a movie that when dissected can shed light on the national-transnational dichotomy of the spaghetti western. However, before studying the prototype, we must look at the complex history of the origin of the first spaghetti western, taking into account that A Fistful of Dollars was ＂transcoded＂ by Leone from Kurosawa＇s Yojimbo （1961） that derived his script from Dashiell Hammett＇s RedHarvest （1929）.
