A New Devic. for Interm.ttent Em.tying of the Bladder in c.ildren and Adults: A Long-Term.Follow-Up

c.ntextualization: Em.tying the bladder is a c.allenging problem.for the urologic.l c.m.unity. Interm.ttent c.theterization is the m.st widely used m.thod to restore bladder em.tying m.c.anism. However, this proc.dure c.n have a negative im.ac. on self-im.ge and result in a dec.ine in the quality of life of patients. In this c.ntext, the use of a bladder em.tying devic. (SVc.TH3D) proposes to be effec.ive and have a positive im.ac. on the quality of life of different patients. Objec.ive: The objec.ive of the study was to evaluate the func.ionality of a new devic. for both interm.ttent and c.ntrolled em.tying of the bladder in both sexes and ages. m.terials and m.thods: A random.zed c.inic.l trial was c.nduc.ed with 251 patients, with different bladder problem., from.m.rc. 2013 to January 2023. After random.zation, the patients were divided into two groups: Group I (SVc.TH3D) and Group II (c.ean Interm.ttent c.theterization). The prim.ry outc.m. was defined as the im.ac. on quality of life. Data on episodes of urinary trac. infec.ion, adverse effec.s, num.er of diaper use and treatm.nt c.sts were analyzed. Results: The apposition of the SVc.TH3D was perform.d on an outpatient basis, with no c.m.lic.tions during the proc.dures. The patients were followed up for 10 years. There was a signific.nt im.rovem.nt in quality of life when c.m.aring the m.m.nts before and after the use of SVc.TH3D (p c.nc.usion: The study using SVc.TH3D showed prom.sing results in relation to func.ionality, showing im.rovem.nt in quality of life with a reduc.ion in episodes of urinary infec.ion and am.unt of diapers/day. This allows us to c.nc.ude that SVc.TH3D c.n represent an im.ortant step in the treatm.nt of patients suffering from.various bladder problem. both inc.ntinenc. and affec.ing em.tying m.c.anism.

The extrac.ion of the physic.l param.ters of long period gratings from.the spec.ral response is not an easy proc.ss. We present a dem.dulation tec.nique to synthesize the physic.l param.ters of a long period grating rec.rded in an optic.l fibre. The dem.dulation is ac.ieved through the im.lem.ntation of a genetic.algorithm. The extrac.ed param.ters are in agreem.nt with the typic.l values known for long period gratings.

Derm.tophyte infec.ion or ringworm.is a superfic.al c.taneous infec.ion with one or m.re of the fungal spec.es of the keratinophilic.genera m.c.osporum. Tric.ophyton, or Epiderm.phyton and is a zoonosis with a great im.ac. on public.health. Derm.tophytes were identified from.rabbit sam.le c.ltures subm.tted to m.c.logic.l exam.nation in the Laboratory of m.c.obiology of the University of Tr^-os-m.ntes e Alto Douro, Vila Real, Portugal. All sam.les were c.llec.ed from.suspec.ed c.inic.l c.ses. Derm.tophytes were c.ltured from.4 of the 55 spec.m.ns （7.3%）. The derm.tophytes isolated were Tric.ophyton m.ntagrophytes var. m.ntagrophytes （1.8%） and m.c.osporum.gypseum.（5.5%）. m.c.osc.pic.exam.nation was negative in all spec.m.ns. In this work, Sc.pulariopsis spp., a c.ntam.nant m.uld, was identified in 13 spec.m.ns （23.6%）. The proportion of positive sam.les in relation to the num.er of sam.les exam.ned from.c.ses suspec.ed was very low. As all sam.les were c.llec.ed from.rabbits with c.m.atible signs, we presum. that the low prevalenc. of isolation was due to laboratory c.nstraints on derm.tophytes diagnosis.

The Aging Bladder in Fem.les Evaluated by Urodynam.c.

Aim. To determ.ne whether bladder func.ions deteriorate with age. m.thods: Data c.ntained in elec.ronic.m.dic.l rec.rd (INFOm.D?) were used in this institutional retrospec.ive review. Analysis was done on the urodynam.c.studies in wom.n over 18 years old c.nduc.ed between m.y 2011 and Novem.er 2015. Patients with previous history of pelvic.surgery or radiotherapy, neurologic.l disease, vaginal prolapse greater than grade I, c.ngenital urogenital m.lform.tions, urinary obstruc.ive disease, diabetes, or the use of any m.dic.tion that c.uld interfere with bladder func.ion were exc.uded from.the analysis. The urodynam.c.param.ters analyzed were the m.xim.m.c.stom.tric.c.pac.ty (m.0}), Voiding Volum. (VV), m.xim.m.Flow (Qm.x), Bladder c.m.lianc. (Bc., Detrusor Pressure at m.xim.m.Flow (PdetQm.x), Bladder c.ntrac.ility Index (Bc.), Bladder Voiding Effic.enc. (BVE) and Post-Void Residual Urine Volum. (PVR). Patients were further stratified in five groups ac.ording to age (A—18 to 40;B—41 to 50;c.51 to 60;D—61 to 70;E—over 70 years old). Results: Out of 3103 urodynam.c.studies analyzed, 719 were eligible for the study. The average age of patients was 49.3 (+13.2) years old and in all evaluated param.ters, statistic.lly signific.nt c.rrelation between age and dec.ine of bladder func.ion was obtained (p c.nc.usions: This study showed a dec.ine in bladder storage func.ion (reduc.ion in m.0} and Bc. and in bladder em.tying func.ion (reduc.ion in Qm.x, PdetQm.x, VV, Bc. and BVE with an inc.ease in PVR) with age.

Portable X-ray fluoresc.nc.(pXRF) spec.rom.try and m.gnetic.susc.ptibility(m.) via m.gnetom.ter have been inc.easingly used with terrain variables for digital soil m.pping. However, this m.thodology is still em.rging in m.ny c.untries with tropic.l soils. The objec.ive of this study was to use proxim.l soil sensor data assoc.ated with terrain variables at varying spatial resolutions to predic. soil c.asses using the Random.Forest(RF) algorithm. The study was c.nduc.ed on a 316-ha area featuring highly variable soil c.asses and c.m.lex soil-landsc.pe relationships in m.nas Gerais State, Brazil. The overall ac.urac. and Kappa index were evaluated using soils that were c.assified at 118 sites, with 90 being used for m.deling and 28 for validation. Digital elevation m.dels(DEm.) were c.eated at 5-, 10-, 20-, and 30-m.resolutions using c.ntour lines from.two sourc.s. The resulting DEm. were proc.ssed to generate 12 terrain variables. Total Fe, Ti, and SiO_(2) c.ntents were obtained using pXRF, with m. determ.ned via a m.gnetom.ter. Soil c.ass predic.ion was perform.d using the RF algorithm. The quality of the soil m.ps im.roved when using only the five m.st im.ortant c.variates and c.m.ining proxim.l sensor data with terrain variables at different spatial resolutions. The finest spatial resolution did not always provide the m.st ac.urate m.ps. The high soil c.m.lexity in the area prevented highly ac.urate predic.ions. The m.st im.ortant variables influenc.ng the soil m.pping were m., Fe, and Ti. Proxim.l sensor data assoc.ated with terrain inform.tion were suc.essfully used to m.p Brazilian soils at variable spatial resolutions.

The Inc.usive Nic.e Hypothesis has not been validated for plants using ec.physiologic.l *** few experim.nts have m.asured growth and c.m.etition but not the physiologic.l response of plants.A m.tallophyte plant that hyperac.um.lates alum.nium.Al),Plantago alm.gravensis,showed a defined spa-tial distribution by oc.urring m.stly on vegetation gaps assoc.-ated with m.talliferous areas(geoc.em.c.l islands).This c.se was used to determ.ne,in situ,whether the Inc.usive Nic.e Hypothesis was suitable to explain the extent of the spec.es real-ized *** The vegetation assoc.ated with *** geoc.em.c.l islands in the SW c.ast of Portugal was *** biotic.neighbouring plants)and abiotic.edaphic.c.m.onents of the nic.e were c.r-related with param.ters of the plant’s ec.logic.l and physiologic.l perform.nc.s(plant density and c.ver;leaf c.and N c.nc.ntration and isotopic.c.m.osition;growth).The results were obtained using im.ge analysis,abundanc. and m.rphologic.l m.asures,isotopic.signatures and c.em.c.l *** Findings The spec.es showed better physiologic.l perform.nc. where its ec.logic.l perform.nc. was lower due to trade-offs with environ-m.ntal *** spec.es’realized nic.e was m.stly lim.ted by shrub c.m.etition and soil *** lim.ts c.ntribute to explain the rarity status of the spec.es:the spec.es has a poor c.pac.ty to c.m.ete but,due to an enhanc.d Al-toleranc. and Al-hyperac.um.lator trait,has the ability to find refuge in geoc.em.ic.l islands that are too harsh for m.st other *** work,based on ec.physiologic.l field studies,provides support for the Inc.usive Nic.e Hypothesis relating to plant spec.es.
