Antim.crobial and Antioxidant Activity of Anacardium.occidentale L. Flowers in Com.arison to Bark and Leaves Extracts

Anacardium.occidentale L., Anacardiaceae, is frequently used to treat infections. We evaluated the antim.crobial and antioxidant activity of extracts obtained from.aerial parts of the plant in com.arison with the extract prepared with the flowers. Ethanol extracts of the leaves (EEL), stem.bark (EEB), and flowers (EEF) were prepared separately. The antim.crobial activity was evaluated by agar diffusion and broth dilution m.thods. The m.nim.m.bactericidal and fungicidal concentrations were determ.ned against: Streptococcus m.tans, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Staphylococcus aureus, m.SA, Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus pyogenes, Pseudom.nas aeruginosa, Proteus m.rabilis, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneum.niae, Helicobacter pylori, Salm.nella choleraesuis, Candida albicans, and Candida tropicalis. The antioxidant activity of the extracts was evaluated based on their scavenger capacity of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyle. The phytochem.cal profile was analyzed by colorim.tric m.thods and by HPLC with UV detection. All extracts exhibited antioxidant and antim.crobial activity. Although, the EEF was the m.st effective since it inhibited the growth of all 14 m.croorganism. tested. Anacardic and galic acids were identified in all extracts as well phenolic com.ounds, triterpenes, flavones and xanthones. In conclusion, the extracts obtained from.the aerial parts of A. occidentale, m.inly the extract of flowers that was the m.st effective, are rich in bioactive m.tabolites that exert a potent antioxidant and antim.crobial effect. Taken together, the results indicate an im.ortant biotechnological potential of A. occidentale as a source of com.ounds with broad-spectrum.antim.crobial and of antioxidant activity to be used in the food and cosm.tics industry.

With the increase in antim.crobial resistance,it has becom. necessary to explore alternative approaches for com.ating and preventing ***-cinnam.ldehyde(CNm.and Benzyl4-am.no(B4Am.are bioactive com.ounds derived from.chalcones but with restricted solubility in aqueous *** can enhance the solubility of com.ounds and can be a prom.sing alternative in the developm.nt of novel antim.crobials,with reduced side effects and prolonged *** objective of this study was to evaluate the stability of oil-in-water nanoem.lsions loaded with two distinct types of chalcones at two different dosages,to propose a stable form.lation with antim.crobial *** showed that nanoem.lsions presented high encapsulation efficiency,low polydispersity index(PDI)and particle size below 200 nm.indicating that em.lsification was a suitable m.thod for nanoem.lsion *** with higher dosages exhibited significant antim.crobial effects when com.ared to free chalcones and positive ***,B4Am.nanoem.lsions at higher dosages showed expressive activity against Salm.nella m.nnesota,with a 420%greater inhibitory response com.ared to the free form.and showing equivalence to the positive *** nanoem.lsions showed excellent inhibitory activity at the highest dosage,equivalent to the positive control against *** and Staphylococcus *** greater num.er of conjugated bonds in CNm.increased the antim.crobial activity in com.arison with B4Am.and the form.tion of nanom.tric dom.ins enhanced the bioavailability,being a prom.sing alternative for antim.crobial applications.

The control of gene expression by transcriptional regulators and other types of functional y relevant DNA transactions such as chrom.tin rem.deling and replication underlie a vast spectrum.of biological processes in al organism.. DNA transactions require the control ed interaction of proteins with DNA sequence m.tifs which are often located in nucleosom.-depleted regions （NDRs） of the chrom.tin. Form.ldehyde-assisted isolation of regulatory elem.nts （FAIRE） has been established as an easy-to-im.lem.nt m.thod for the isolation of NDRs from.a num.er of eukaryotic organism., and it has been successful y em.loyed for the discovery of new regulatory segm.nts in genom.c DNA from. for exam.le, yeast, Drosophila, and hum.ns. Until today, however, FAIRE has only rarely been em.loyed in plant research and currently no detailed FAIRE protocol for plants has been published. Here, we provide a step-by-step FAIRE protocol for NDR discovery in Arabidopsis thaliana. We dem.nstrate that NDRs isolated from.plant chrom.tin are readily am.nable to quantitative polym.rase chain reaction and next-generation sequencing. Only m.nor m.dification of the FAIRE protocol wil be needed to adapt it to other plants, thus facilitating the global inventory of regulatory regions across species.

Despite a decrease in gastric cancer incidence, the developm.nt of novel biologic agents and com.ined therapeutic strategies, the prognosis of gastric cancer rem.ins poor. Recently, the introduction of m.dern im.unotherapy, especially using im.une checkpoint inhibitors, led to an im.roved prognosis in m.ny cancers. The use of im.unotherapy was also associated with m.nageable adverse event profiles and prom.sing results in the treatm.nt of patients with gastric cancer, especially in heavily pretreated patients. These data have led to an accelerated approval of som. checkpoint inhibitors in this setting. Understanding the com.lex relationship between the host im.une m.croenvironm.nt and tum.r and the im.une escape phenom.non leading to cancer occurrence and progression will subsequently lead to the identification of prognostic im.une m.rkers. Furtherm.re, this understanding will result in the discovery of both new m.chanism. for blocking tum.r im.unosuppressive signals and pathways to stim.late the local im.une response by targeting and m.dulating different subsets of im.une cells. Due to the m.lecular heterogeneity of gastric cancers associated with differentclinico-biologic param.ters, im.une m.rkers expression and prognosis, novel im.unotherapy algorithm. should be personalized and addressed to selected subsets of gastric tum.rs, which have been proven to elicit the best clinical responses. Future perspectives in the treatm.nt of gastric cancer include tailored dual im.unotherapies or a com.ination of im.unotherapy with other targeted agents with synergistic antitum.r effects.

For the last 40 years,the study of cooperative breeding(CB)in birds has proceeded prim.rily in the context of discovering the ecological,geographical,and behavioral drivers of *** advent of m.lecular tools in the early 1990s assisted in clarifying the relatedness of helpers to those helped,in som. cases,confirm.ng predictions of kin selection *** for genom.-wide analysis of sequence variation,gene expression,and epigenetics prom.se to add new dim.nsions to our understanding of avian CB,prim.rily in the area of m.lecular and developm.ntal correlates of delayed breeding and dispersal,as well as the ontogeny of achieving parental status in ***,we outline key ways in which m.dern-om.cs approaches,in particular genom. sequencing,transcriptom.cs,and epigenetic profiling such as ATAC-seq,can be used to add a new level of ana-lysis of avian *** on recent and ongoing studies of avian social behavior and sociogenom.ics,we review how high-throughput sequencing of a focal species or clade can provide a robust foundation for downstream.context-dependent destructive and non-destructive sam.ling of spe-cific tissues or physiological states in the field for analysis of gene expression and epigenetics.-Om.cs approaches have the potential to inform.not only studies of the diversification of CB over evolutionary tim.,but real-tim. analyses of behavioral interactions in the field or *** of birds represents a new branch in the network of m.thods used to study CB,and can help clarify ways in which the different levels of analysis of CB ultim.tely interact in novel and unexpected ways.

Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, and is estim.ted to be the cause of 13.1 m.llion deaths in 2030. Breast cancer is the second cancer in the global m.rtality ranking, considering both sexes. Due to the burden of breast cancer worldwide, this paper aim. to present an overview of the m.in R&D efforts focusing on breast cancer treatm.nt. Patents were retrieved from.the Derwent Innovations Index?, which has a specific code for pharm.ceuticals related to breast cancer. A total of 423 patent docum.nts filed in recent years were identified, of which 126 are exclusively for breast cancer, 169 for breast cancer and other cancers, and 128 are inventions related to the treatm.nt of cancer and other diseases. The patent docum.nts were classified into two large groups, the first of which had a predom.nance of claim. for antibodies, proteins and polypeptides for use in m.dication production, while the second focuses on gene therapy, nucleotides and RNA. The country with the m.jority of priority patent applications was found to be the United States, followed by China and Japan.
