Rising incidence,progression and changing patterns of liver disease in Wales 1999-2019

BACKGROUND Liver disease incidence and hence demand on hepatology services is *** To describe trends in incidence and natural history of liver diseases in Wales to inform effective provision of hepatology *** The registry is populated by International Classification of Diseases-10(ICD-10)code diagnoses for residents derived from mortality data and inpatient/day case activity between ***-anonymised linkage of:(1)Causative diagnoses;(2)Cirrhosis;(3)Portal hypertension;(4)Decompensation;and(5)Liver cancer diagnoses enabled tracking liver disease *** The population of Wales in 2019 was 3.1 *** 1999 and 201973054 individuals were diagnosed with a hepatic disorder,including 18633 diagnosed with cirrhosis,10965 with liver decompensation and 2316 with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Over 21 years the incidence of liver diseases increased 3.6 fold,predominantly driven by a 10 fold increase in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD);the leading cause of liver disease from *** incidence of cirrhosis,decompensation,HCC,and allcause mortality ***-related mortality ***-related liver disease(ArLD),autoimmune liver disease and congestive hepatopathy were associated with the highest rates of decompensation and all-cause *** A 10 fold increase in NAFLD incidence is driving a 3.6 fold increase in liver disease in Wales over 21 ***-related morbidity and mortality rose more slowly reflecting the lower progression rate in *** of ArLD remained stable but was associated with the highest rates of liver-related and all-cause mortality.

Engineered Production of Bioactive Natural Products from Medicinal Plants

Plant natural products have been particularly important due to their use in food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries. In particular, Traditional Chinese Medicine provides a precious potential for the discovery of bioactive natural products and development of novel modern medicines. However, the existing production methods for plant natural products such as chemical synthesis and plant extraction does not meet the current demand. Due to their environmental and economic concerns, engineered production of valuable natural products in microbial hosts has become an attractive alternative platform. This review covers the recent advances in the engineered production of plant natural products in microorganisms. A special focus was placed on the biotechnological production of plant-derived terpenoids, flavonoids, and alkaloids. Some successful examples of engineered production of plant natural products(or their precursors) such as artemisinin, paclitaxel, naringenin, quercetin, berberine, and noscapine are summarized. This clearly indicates that the engineered production method is a promising approach with various advantages over current methods.

In vitro cytotoxic effects of Smilax aspera *** on cancer cell lines

Approximately,14 million cancer cases are seen annually,and cancer accounts for 20%of all deaths in the ***,the incidence of cancer is increasing every *** fact that the survival rate in cancer is not at the desired level makes cancer a pathology with a high mortality *** conduct intensive research on strategic issues such as new diagnostic methods,identification of new candidate drug molecules,and detection of molecules or molecular pathways that may be targeted for new *** this study;The cytotoxic activity and apoptotic mechanism were investigated root extracts of Smilax aspera L.,whose roots are *** study,cytotoxicity of *** root extracts on MDA-MB-231,A549 and OVCAR3 cell lines by MTT method and apoptotic activity on OVCAR3 cell line by double staining and gene expression levels were determined for the first *** a result of the study,*** root extracts showed a significant cytotoxic effect on three cell lines at different *** addition,it suppressed the BCL2 gene,which has an important role in the prevention of apoptosis,and it was determined to have an apoptosis-inducing *** this respect,it is seen that *** is a strategically important plant that can be used in cancer treatment.

Solid-particle erosion behavior of cast alloys used in the mining industry

The erosive-wear response of five commercial ferrous-based cast alloys used for crushing was examined in this study. The micro- structures of the alloys were modified to elucidate the effect of microstructural features on wear. Erosion tests were conducted using alumi- num oxide particles （90-125μm） at 70 m/s and a normal impact angle （90°）. The worn surfaces were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and 3D non-contact laser profilometry. It is found that （i） a pearlitic structure exhibiting a greater plastic deformation than both bainitic and martensitic structures shows the greatest resistance to erosive wear at normal impact and （ii） the fracture characteristics of carbide and graphite particles plays an important role in determining the erosion wear behavior of the cast alloy matrices.

Adaptive mode switching of hypersonic morphing aircraft based on type-2 TSK fuzzy sliding mode control

This paper presents a novel adaptive mode switching scheme for hypersonic morphing aircraft with retracted winglets based on type-2 Takagi-Sugeno-Kang(TSK) fuzzy sliding mode control. For each of retracting and stretching modes, a specific sliding mode controller has been adopted. Drawing upon input/output linearization to globally linearize the nonlinear model of the hypersonic aircraft at first, a type-2 TSK fuzzy logic system is devised for robust mode switching between these sliding mode controllers. For rapid stabilization of the system, the adaptive law for mode switching is designed using a direct constructive Lyapunov *** results demonstrate the stability and smooth transition using the proposed switched control scheme.
