^(99m)Tc in the evaluation of microleakage of composite resin restorations with SonicFill^(TM).An in vitro experimental model

Introduction: The composite SonicFillTM (Kerr/Kavo) is indicated for posterior restorations, with a single increment up to 5 mm due to reduced polymerization shrinkage, thus reducing working time. Aim: Evaluation of marginal microleakage with SonicFillTM. Method and Materials: There were sectioned sixty noncarious human molars in the occluso-cervical direction. Class V cavities were prepared on each tooth with gingival margin walls in a standardized way. The specimens were divided into 4 groups: group 1—restored with SonicFillTM (Kerr/Kavo), group 2—restored with FiltekTM SupremeXTE (3M ESPE), group 3—the cavities were not restored;group 4—restored with SonicFillTM (Kerr/Kavo). In groups 1, 2 and 4 the enamel was conditioned with 37% orthophosphoric acid and applied the self-etch adhesive system Clear- fillTM SE BOND (Kuraray). The specimens were stored in distilled water at 37?C for 7 days. After, the specimens, were immersed in a solution of 99mTc-Pertechnetate and the radioactivity was assessed with a gamma camera. The nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney test with Bonferroni correction at a significance level of 5% were used for the statistical analyses. Results: There are significant differences between the positive and negative control groups and between these and experimental groups (p TM and FiltekTM SupremeXTE. Conclusion: The new composite SonicFillTM and FiltekTM SupremeXTE showed no difference concerning dye penetration. The Sonic- FillTM restorative system showed no influence in concerning microleakage.

Microbiological assessment of street foods at the point of sale in Maputo(Mozambique)

Evaluating the influences of fine-scale habitat heterogeneity on the composition,diversity,structure and functioning of forests is critical to understand how tropical forests will respond to climate change and devise forest management strategies that will enhance biodiversity conservation and aboveground biomass ***,we hypothesized that topographic and soil factors determine fine-scale habitat differentiation,which in turn shape community composition,species richness,structure and aboveground biomass at the local scale in tropical *** test this hypothesis,we selected two areas(each 100×100 m)with contrasting fine-scale topographic conditions where all trees,palms and lianas with a diameter at breast height ≥ 10 cm were tagged and identified to *** each selected area,100 subplots of 10×10 m were *** mainly found that higher topographic variability caused higher habitat differentiation with changes in species composition and community structure,but did not change species *** habitat-scale analyses indicated that,in the less heterogeneous area,the distribution of species was more uniform along a fine-scale topographical gradient with no variation in convexity,which induced changes in structure and aboveground biomass,but not in species *** nonsignificant relationship between species richness and aboveground biomass may be attributable to species redundancy or functional *** study suggests that environmental filtering is a fundamental process for shaping community assembly and forest functioning along a local topographical gradient in tropical forests.

Diagnostic criteria for autoimmune hepatitis in children: A challenge for pediatric hepatologists

Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is a progressive inflammatory liver disorder that is rare in children and adolescents. AIH has a broad clinical spectrum and a quick response to treatment with corticosteroids and immunosuppressive medication. The available diagnosis criteria have limitations and should be evaluated in pediatric populations. Recently, some studies reported that the 2008 simplified diagnostic criteria for AIH could be used in children with high sensibility and specificity. In addition, the authors reported that globulin and immunoglobulin G levels can be used interchangeably for diagnostic purposes. They also demonstrated that the 2008 simplified criteria fail in identifying patients with fulminant hepatic failure. Here, we discuss the limitations of the use of these criteria in pediatric patients and the requirement of more studies to improve the diagnosis of AIH in children.

Ozone action on Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus fermentum : A pilot study

AIM: To study the effectiveness of ozone in the elimination of cariogenic bacteria, followed with fluoride ***: Sixty extracted teeth free of caries were used, and five groups were constituted. In Group Ⅰ,the teeth were immersed in artificial saliva. In Group Ⅱ,the teeth were inoculated with Streptococcus mutans(S. mutans) and immersed in artificial saliva. In GroupⅢ the teeth were inoculated with Lactobaccilus fermentum(L. fermentum) and immersed in artificial *** Group Ⅳ the teeth were inoculated with S. mutans and L. fermentum and immersed in artificial saliva and the teeth in Group Ⅴ were inoculated with S. mutans and L. fermentum, and were subjected to the application of ozone and to the action of a fluoride mineralizing gel. DIAGNOdent was used to evaluate the caries of the teeth 3 wk after inoculation of bacteria and after that the teeth of Group Ⅴ were subjected to the application of ozone during 60 s, by HealO zone. After the application of ozone, products of the remineralization kit supplied by the manufacturer were applied daily, during 30 d. At the end samples were collected for analysis and evaluation of bacterial activity by polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: Regarding the value of caries, obtained via DIAGNOdent, in the initial measurement the groups are homogeneous(P = 0.730). There was an increase in DIAGNOdent values, presenting statistical significant difference regarding the initial measurement in all groups(P < 0.001), except in group Ⅰ- only artificial saliva- which shows that the artificial carie model was effective. Comparing the initial and final measurements for each of the 60 teeth, it can be observed that in 9 teeth(15.0%) there was a decrease in values between the two measurements, one(1.7%) retained the same values in the two measurements and in the remaining 50 cases(83.3%) there was increase in values between the initial and final measurements. It should also be noted that in the teeth inoculated with S. mutans

The effect of fatigue and duration knowledge of exercise on kicking performance in soccer players

Purpose:The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of fatigue upon kicking maximal ball velocity and the target-hitting accuracy of soccer players;and also to examine the effect of the knowledge of the exercise duration upon these 2 ***:Twenty-four semi-professional soccer players participated in this study and performed maximal instep kicks before and after the implementation of an exercise protocol,either with or without knowledge of the duration of this ***:A mixed model of analysis of variance showed that kicking maximal ball velocity was significantly affected(F(5,85)=11.6,p<0.001,η^2=0.39) but only after just 1 circuit of the fatigue protocol and then remained *** did not change during the protocol(F(5,75)=0.23,p=0.76,η^2=0.03) and knowing the duration of exercitation did not affect accuracy and velocity development(F(1,23) ≤1.04,p≥0.32,η~2≤0.06).Conclusion:These findings demonstrated the potential negative effects of fatigue on kicking ball velocity in soccer but not in the kicking accuracy and that the effect of fatigue may not be progressive over *** or not knowing the duration of exercitation did not affect the results.

Comparison of the apical seal on filled root canals with Topseal<sup>®</sup>vs MTA Fillapex<sup>®</sup>sealers: A quantitative scintigraphic analysis

This study investigated the microleakage of two different root canal obturation systems, using the nuclear medicine approach, with sodium pertechnetate 99mTc. Twenty six single-rooted extracted teeth were selected. The crowns were sectioned to obtain15 mmlong root segments and each tooth was prepared using rotary ProFile? instruments. The roots were divided into 2 experimental groups and two control groups. Twenty root canals were filled, using Thermafil? and Topseal? or MTA Fillapex? as a sealer. On the 7th and the 28th day the apices were submersed in a solution of 99mTc-Pertechnetate during 3 hours. The radioactivity was counted using a gamma camera. Although apical leakage on the 7th day in the Topseal group was reduced compared with RealSeal1, with a statistical significant difference (p = 0.057), on the 28th day, the MTA Fillapex increased the sealing properties (p = 0.017).

Only Spondylodiscitis? A Clinical Case of Multiple Septic Embolization

Background: Spondylodiscitis and spinal epidural abscesses are rare pathologic entities, but increasing in incidence. Group G beta hemolytic Streptococcus has been recently described associated with human infections. They often present clinically in a non-specific fashion, a fact which can lead to diagnostic delay, with serious consequences for the patient. Case Report: An 80-year-old man was admitted to the hospital with complaints of fever for three days, dysuria, hematuria, and back pain. Both septic embolizations and spondylodiscitis due to Group G beta hemolytic Streptococcus were detected. The patient was successfully treated with intravenous penicillin G for eight weeks, followed by oral amoxicillin for five months. Discussion: In all patients with spondylodiscitis, infective endocarditis should be considered, particularly in patients with heart valve disease history, since spondylodiscitis may be the presenting sign of an infective endocarditis. A high level of suspicion is therefore necessary in order correctly diagnose such entities as quickly as possible. The present case illustrates the pathogenic potential of group G streptococci in spondylodiscitis and native valve endocarditis.

Repeat hepatectomy for recurrent colorectal liver metastases:A comparative analysis of short-and long-term results

Background: Liver recurrence after resection of colorectal liver metastases(CRLM) is frequent. Repeat hepatectomy has been shown to have satisfactory perioperative results. However, the long-term outcomes and the benefts for patients with early recurrence have not been clarifed. The aim of this study was to compare the short-and long-term outcomes of patients undergoing single hepatectomy and repeat hepatectomy for CRLM. Additionally, the oncological outcomes of patients with early( ≤ 6 months) and late recurrence who underwent repeat hepatectomy were compared. Methods: Consecutive adult patients undergoing hepatectomy for CRLM between June 20 0 0 and February 2020 were included and divided into two groups: single hepatectomy and repeat hepatectomy. Results: A total of 709 patients were included: 649 in the single hepatectomy group and 60 in the repeat hepatectomy group. Patients in the repeat hepatectomy group underwent more cycles of preoperative chemotherapy [4(3-6) vs. 3(2-4), P = 0.003]. Patients in the single hepatectomy group more frequently underwent major hepatectomies(34.5% vs. 16.7%, P = 0.004) and had a greater number of lesions resected(2.9 ± 3.6 vs. 1.9 ± 1.8, P = 0.011). There was no increase in operative time, estimated blood loss, length of hospital stay, complications, or mortality in the repeat hepatectomy group. There were no differences in overall survival( P = 0.626) and disease-free survival( P = 0.579) between the two groups. Similarly, for patients underwent repeat hepatectomy, no difference was observed between the early and late recurrence groups in terms of overall survival( P = 0.771) or disease-free survival( P = 0.350). Conclusions: Repeat hepatectomy is feasible and safe, with similar short-and long-term outcomes when compared to single hepatectomy. Surgical treatment of early liver recurrence offers similar oncological outcomes to those obtained for late recurrence.
