Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) account for 2% of all tumors of the digestive tract. They are most frequently located in the stomach followed by the small intestine and most often present with mucosal ulceration and erosion associated with gastrointestinal bleeding. Bleeding from the small intestine can be difficult to diagnose and angiography becomes a useful diagnostic and therapeutic procedure in these patients. We present a case of a GIST located in the ileum which presented with a lower gastrointestinal bleeding (lGIB). The patient was stabilized by performing an arteriography and selective embolization of the bleeding point, followed by elective surgery.

AIM: To determine reproducibility of perioperative chemotherapy for gastric cancer(GC) on our settings by identifying patient's overall survival and comparing them to larger ***: Retrospective analysis of our series,where we present our eleven-year's experience on GC managed according to perioperative approach of three preoperative chemotherapy cycles followed by surgery and finally three postoperative chemotherapy *** scheme used was Xelox(Oxaliplatin and Capecitabine).Epidemiologic parameters as well as surgical variables were analysed,presented,and compared to other series with similar *** was estimated by Kaplan Meier/log rank method and also compared to these ***: Mean age was 65 years *** survival in our series was 37.7%,similar to other groups using perioperative *** was 4% and morbidity 30%,which are also similar to those *** curves were compared to larger studies,finding similarities on *** survival analysis between chemotherapy responders and non-responders didn't reach statically significant ***: Perioperative chemotherapic scheme can be reproduced on our setting with good results and without increasing morbidity or mortality.

Benign intestinal tumors are the most frequent cause of small bowel intussusception in adults. This report presents a case of a 67-year-old male with abdominal pain, leukocytosis and C-reactive protein elevation. After ultrasonography and double contrast CT-scan consistent with ileal intussusception patient underwent laparoscopy, which confirmed diagnose. Intestinal resection and anastomosis were performed via minilaparotomy. Further histological study showed a fibroid inflammatory polyp or Vanek’s tumor as intussusception’s lead point.

Interactions between the functioning of the heart and the liver have been described, with heart diseases affecting the liver, liver diseases affecting the heart, and conditions that simultaneously affect both. The heart is one of the most adversely affected organs in patients with liver cirrhosis. For example, arrhythmias and electrocardiographic changes are observed in patients with liver cirrhosis. The risk for arrhythmia is influenced by factors such as cirrhotic cardiomyopathy, cardiac ion channel remodeling, electrolyte imbalances,impaired autonomic function, hepatorenal syndrome, metabolic abnormalities, advanced age, inflammatory syndrome, stressful events, impaired drug metabolism and comorbidities. Close monitoring of cirrhotic patients is needed for arrhythmias, particularly when QT intervalprolonging drugs are given, or if electrolyte imbalances or hepatorenal syndrome appear. Arrhythmia risk may persist after liver transplantation due to possible QT interval prolongation, persistence of the parasympathetic impairment, post-transplant reperfusion and chronic immunosuppression, as well as consideration of the fact that the transplant itself is a stressful event for the cardiovascular system. The aims of the present article were to provide a review of the most important data regarding the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and biomarkers of arrhythmia risk in patients with liver cirrhosis, to elucidate the association with long-term outcome, and to propose future research directions.
