Composites based on melamine formaldehyde resins filled with exfoliated graphite or so called nanographite have been prepared to achieve electrical conductivity and improve mechanical strength and thermal stability. The nanographite was synthesized by thermal treatment of oxidized graphite and the incorporation into the melamine matrix was accomplished during the melamine formaldehyde reaction. A homogenous dispersion of the filler in the matrix and the forming of a connecting network based on graphite sheets were proved by SEM images. The graphite filler was able to increase the flexural strength of molded testing specimens compared to unfilled resins and electrical conductivity was achieved starting at 2 wt% nanographite.

Smilax canariensis Brouss. ex Willd. is an endemic plant of the Canary Islands. Its rhizomes, leaves and stems have been traditionally used in Canary folk medicine to treat a wide variety of conditions including pain. Our objective is to investigate the analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities of different extracts of S. canariensis in Swiss mice, using established biological models for pain and inflammation, such as phenylquinone writhing test, formalin test, tail-flick test and mouse paw edema induced by carrageenan. Oral administration of S. canariensis extracts significantly reduce writhing episodes evoked by phenylquinone injection in a dose-dependent manner;and higher doses result in a reduction of pain similar to or higher than that of the reference drug piroxicam (59.56%;p < 0.01). The extracts also cause a marked dose-dependent inhibition of for-malin-induced pain in the second phase but only minimal inhibition of tail-flick behavior, suggesting that S. canariensis is not a centrally acting analgesic. Finally, in the carrageenan-induced hind paw edema model, the extracts show a moderate anti-inflammatory effect, the most active being the ethyl acetate fraction at 200 mg/kg p.o. (33.33%;p < 0.05). Our results suggest that S. canariensis extracts have clear dose-dependent peripheral analgesic effects, which lends support to the traditional use of this medicinal plant to treat pain associated with inflammatory or other processes.

Water stress is likely the most important factor that adversely affects plant growth and development. In our study two inbred lines of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) with contrasting behavior to water deficit, the inbred lines B59, sensitive, and B71, tolerant, were subjected to water stress and compared in terms of growth parameters, relative water content, photosynthetic pigments and osmo-compatibles contents. Mannitol treatment generated a moderate water stress which resulted in a relative water content decline in both lines. In aerial part of B59 and B71 stressed-seedlings, a dramatic reduction of osmotic potential was observed, although in B71 the osmotic potential was 1.8-fold lower than in B59. The B71 line recovered the osmotic potential to control values after 8 d of re-watering. Several morphological parameters were altered by the water stress. Shoot and root relative fresh weight decreased in both lines under water stress, although B71 showed a minor drop. However, the root was less affected than the shoot in stress condition and recovery period. Water stress was affected in a greater proportion shoot dry weight (DW) than root DW in B59 and B71 lines. Nevertheless, a significant increase in root DW/shoot DW ratio was observed in stressed seedlings. A higher reduction in the individual leaf area was observed in B71 line under stress. The basal chlorophyll content was higher in the tolerant line B71 than in the sensitive B59, and carotenoids showed a high content in B71 control and stressed seedlings. Under water stress, the aerial and root proline content increased in the tolerant B71 line. Glycinebetaine decreased significantly in the aerial part of both lines in response to water stress indicating that this compound is not the main osmo-regulator. In conclusion, B71 has suitable mechanisms to enable it to respond more effectively to moderate water stress.

The aim of the study is to evaluate the safety and effi cacy of trans-epithelial accelerated corneal cross-linking（TE-ACXL） in children with progressive ***,case-series of 23 eyes of 14 children who underwent *** were performed at baseline and 1,3,6,12 and 18 mo *** follow-up time of 23.82±3.15 mo and mean age was 13.7±1.4 y（range 11 to 16 y）.Mean preoperative uncorrected distance visual acuity changed from 0.92±0.45 log MAR（20/160） to 0.71±0.40 log MAR（20/100）（P=0.001）.Mean keratometry（Km） changed from 53.87± 6.03 to 53.00±5.81（P=0.001）.Pachymetry did not have significant changes at last follow-up（P=0.30）.The mean preoperative sphere was-5.58±2.48 and-4.89±4.66 D（P=0.11） at last follow-up;refractive cylinder from-5.58±2.48 to-5.02±2.23（P=0.046）.In conclusion,tomographic and refractive stability are shown in over 91% of eyes with pediatric progressive keratoconus who underwent TE-ACXL.

A variety of clinical manifestations are associated directly or indirectly with tuberculosis. Among them, haematological abnormalities can be found in both the pulmonary and extrapulmonary forms of the disease. We report a case of immune thrombocytopenic purpura(ITP) associated with intestinal tuberculosis in a liver transplant recipient. The initial management of thrombocytopenia, with steroids and intravenous immunoglobulin, was not successful, and the lack oftuberculosis symptoms hampered a proper diagnostic evaluation. After the diagnosis of intestinal tuberculosis and the initiation of specific treatment, a progressive increase in the platelet count was observed. The mechanism of ITP associated with tuberculosis has not yet been well elucidated, but this condition should be considered in cases of ITP that are unresponsive to steroids and intravenous immunoglobulin, especially in immunocompromised patients and those from endemic areas.

Several industrial applications such as electronic devices,heat exchangers,gas turbine blades,*** cooling *** internal cooling technique is proper for some *** the present work,computational simulations were made using ANSYS CFX to predict the improvements of internal heat transfer in the rectangular ribbed channel using different *** coolants such as air,steam,air/mist and steam/mist were *** shear stress transport model(SST)is selected by comparing the standard k-ωand Omega Reynolds Stress(ωRS)turbulence models with experimental *** results indicate that the heat transfer coefficients are enhanced in the ribbed channel while injecting small amounts of *** heat transfer coefficients of air/mist,steam and steam/mist increase by 12.5%,49.5%and 107%over that of air,***,in comparison to air,the air/mist heat transfer coefficient enhances by about 1.05 to 1.14 times when the mist mass fraction increases from 2%to 8%,*** steam/mist heat transfer coefficient increases by about 1.12 to 1.27 times higher than that of steam over the considered range of mist mass fraction.

Hydroesterification process has been presented biodiesel production from oil the green microalga Nannochloropsis oculata raw materials. Biodiesel studied in this work is the main product got from the hydroesterification of biomass the Nannochloropsis oculata and was obtained from esterification of fatty acid (product of a hydrolysis reaction) with methanol. It was used as catalyst the niobic acid pure and supported on δ-aluminum. The product was evaluated by gas chromatography and other analyses. The optimum conditions found in the conversion (%) for the hydrolysis reactions of the biomass (92.3%). Better results were observed in the algae concentration 20%, lead at 300?C with 20% of catalyst. For esterification of fatty acids of Nannochloropsis oculata (92.24%), were observed the molar ratio methanol: fat acid 3, lead at 200°C with 20% of catalyst supported.

Computational Film Cooling Effectiveness of Dual Trench Configuration on Flat Plate at Moderate Blowing Ratios

In the present work, computational simulations was made using ANSYS CFX to predict the improvements in film cooling performance with dual trench. Dual-trench confguradon consists of two trenches together, one wider trench and the other is narrow trench that extruded from the wider one. Several blowing ratios in the range （0.5：5） were investigated. The pitch-to-diameter ratio of 2.775 is used. By using the dual trench configuration, the coolant jet impacted the trench wall two times allowing increasing the spreading of coolant laterally in the trench, reducing jet velocity and jet completely covered on the surface. The results indicate that this configuration increased adiabatic effectiveness as blowing ratio increased. The spatially averaged adiabatic effectiveness reached 57.6% for at M= 2. No observed film blow-off at all blowing ratios. The adiabatic film effectiveness of dual trench case outperformed the narrow trench case, laidback fan-shaped hole, fan-shaped hole and cylinder hole at different blowing ratios.

This study assessed the influence of acquisition parameters of tomographic volumes on the reproduction of thin bone structures for rapid prototyping purposes. Two parameters were investigated: Field of View (FOV) and Slice Thickness (ST). The specimen was comprised of five pairs of 0.6 mm, 1.1 mm, 1.5 mm, 2.0 mm and 2.8 mm thick cortical bone plates. The plates were stuck into utility wax;the first plate of the pair was in vertical position while the second plate was oblique to the first one. Forty-five tomographic images were captured and separated into 3 groups of fifteen images. Each group had a specific FOV: 180 mm;250 mm and 430 mm, respectively. Within each of these three groups, tomographic slice thickness was varied for every five of the fifteen slices. Acquisitions were carried out with STs of 1 mm, 2.5 mm and 5 mm. The Cyclops Medical Station software was used in the voxel-to-voxel analysis of radiologic density, reaching a total of 1350 assessed images. ST and FOV variation influenced the reproduction of thin bone walls, and FOV was shown to be a very important parameter. The larger the acquisition FOV, the more reduction in the number of voxels within the range of reconstruction for cortical bone in all of the bone plates. The visual analysis of the images of very thin bone walls showed that there could be a sharp drop in the radiologic density value in several adjacent voxels, resulting in areas which might not be reproduced in the reconstruction.
