Autophagy is a widespread biological process that controls cellular growth,survival,development,and death.Circadian rhythm is a recurring reaction of living organisms and behaviors to variations in surrounding brightness and obscurity.Most of the fundamental physiological processes in mammals,such as the sleep-wake pattern and the rhythm of nutrition and energy metabolism,are governed by circadian rhythms.Research has indicated that autophagy exhibits a specific circadian pattern in both normal and abnormal conditions.Autophagy can modulate circadian rhythms by breaking down proteins that regulate the circadian clock.The potential regulatory connection between the two has been a popular subject of clinical and fundamental research.Understanding the interaction between circadian rhythm and autophagy could potentially lead to the development of novel approaches for disease treatment in the future.The present analysis presented a summary of the molecular processes implicated in the interplay between autophagy and circadian rhythm,as well as the pathological importance of the disrupted regulatory association between these two phenomena.

To editor:Fetomaternal hemorrhage(FMH)refers to the fetal blood transfection into the maternal circulation,usually involving a bleeding volume exceeding 30 ml.This phenomenon can promptly trigger a sinusoidal fetal heart rate pattern,posing a significant risk of life-threatening fetal anemia and even mortality1,2 Upon suspicion of FMH,immediate intervention is essential to prevent neonatal death,often leading to the insufficient recognition of placental examination in many published reports.However,an increasing number of FMH case reports have underscored the potential subsequent risk of choriocarcinoma.

Plant-based dietary patterns and risk of esophageal cancer:A prospective cohort study spanning 17 years

Objective: Plant-based diets have multiple health benefits for cancers;however, little is known about the association between plant-based dietary patterns and esophageal cancer(EC).This study presents an investigation of the prospective associations among three predefined indices of plant-based dietary patterns and the risk of EC.Methods: We performed endoscopic screening for 15,709 participants aged 40-69 years from two high-risk areas of China from January 2005 to December 2009 and followed the cohort until December 31, 2022. The overall plant-based diet index(PDI), healthful plant-based diet index(h PDI), and unhealthful plant-based diet index(u PDI), were calculated using survey responses to assess dietary patterns. We applied Cox proportional hazard regression to estimate the multivariable hazard ratios(HRs) and 95% confidence intervals(95% CIs) of EC across 3plant-based diet indices and further stratified the analysis by subgroups.Results: The final study sample included 15,184 participants in the cohort. During a follow-up of 219,365person-years, 176 patients with EC were identified. When the highest quartile was compared with the lowest quartile, the pooled multivariable-adjusted HR of EC was 0.50(95% CI, 0.32-0.77) for h PDI. In addition, the HR per 10-point increase in the h PDI score was 0.42(95% CI, 0.27-0.66) for ECs. Conversely, u PDI was positively associated with the risk of EC, and the HR was 1.80(95% CI, 1.16-2.82). The HR per 10-point increase in the u PDI score was 1.90(95% CI, 1.26-2.88) for ECs. The associations between these scores and the risk of EC were consistent in most subgroups. These results remained robust in sensitivity analyses.Conclusions: A healthy plant-based dietary pattern was associated with a reduced risk of EC. Emphasizing the healthiness and quality of plant-based diets may be important for preventing the development of EC.

Discovery of unusual phloroglucinol-triterpenoid adducts from Leptospermum scoparium and Xanthostemon chrysanthus by building blocks-based molecular networking

The first phloroglucinol-triterpenoid hybrids,myrtphlotritins A-E(1-5),were rapidly recognized and isolated from two species of Myrtaceae by employing the building blocks-based molecular network(BBMN)strategy.Compounds 1-5 featured new carbon skeletons in which phloroglucinol derivatives were coupled with lupane-and dammarane-type triterpenoids through different linkage patterns.Their structures and absolute configurations were elucidated by comprehensive analysis of spectroscopic data and quantum chemical calculations.Biosynthetic pathways for compounds 1-5 were proposed on the basis of the coexisting precursors.Guided by the biogenetic pathways,the biomimetic synthesis of compound 1 was also achieved.Additionally,compounds 2,3,and 5 exhibited potent antiviral activities against herpes simplex virus type-1(HSV-1)infection,and compounds 2 and 5 displayed significant anti-inflammatory activities on RAW264.7 cells.

Parkinson’s disease(PD)is a complicated neurodegenerative disease,characterized by the accumulation ofα-synuclein(α-syn)in Lewy bodies and neurites,and massive loss of midbrain dopamine neurons.Increasing evidence suggests that gut microbiota and microbial metabolites are involved in the development of PD.Among these,short-chain fatty acids(SCFAs),the most abundant microbial metabolites,have been proven to play a key role in brain-gut communication.In this review,we analyze the role of SCFAs in the pathology of PD from multiple dimensions and summarize the alterations of SCFAs in PD patients as well as their correlation with motor and non-motor symptoms.Future research should focus on further elucidating the role of SCFAs in neuroinflammation,as well as developing novel strategies employing SCFAs and their derivatives to treat PD.

DLF-YOLOF:an improved YOLOF-based surface defect detection for steel plate

Surface defects can affect the quality of steel plate.Many methods based on computer vision are currently applied to surface defect detection of steel plate.However,their real-time performance and object detection of small defect are still unsatisfactory.An improved object detection network based on You Only Look One-level Feature(YOLOF)is proposed to show excellent performance in surface defect detection of steel plate,called DLF-YOLOF.First,the anchor-free detector is used to reduce the network hyperparameters.Secondly,deformable convolution network and local spatial attention module are introduced into the feature extraction network to increase the contextual information in the feature maps.Also,the soft non-maximum suppression is used to improve detection accuracy significantly.Finally,data augmentation is performed for small defect objects during training to improve detection accuracy.Experiments show the average precision and average precision for small objects are 42.7%and 33.5%at a detection speed of 62 frames per second on a single GPU,respectively.This shows that DLF-YOLOF has excellent performance to meet the needs of industrial real-time detection.

Electrocatalytic reduction reactions play a crucial role in electrochemical energy conversion and storage technology,which are emerging technologies to ameliorate environmental problems.Spinel oxides are widely explored in electrocatalytic oxidation reactions but have a poor intrinsic ability to reduction reactions,making their electrocatalytic ability less effective.To improve this,defect engineering is a valuable method for regulating the electronic structure and coordination environment.Herein,this manuscript discusses the use of defect spinel oxides in electrocatalytic reduction reactions,including the different types of defects,construction methods,and characterization techniques.It also outlines the various applications of defect spinel oxides in different electrocatalytic reduction reactions.Finally,it goes over the challenges and future outlooks for defect spinels.This review aims to thoroughly explain how defect spinels work in electrocatalytic reduction reactions and serve as a helpful guide for creating effective electrocatalysts.

The mixed distribution model is often used to extract information from heteroge-neous data and perform modeling analysis.When the density function of mixed distribution is complicated or the variable dimension is high,it usually brings challenges to the parameter es-timation of the mixed distribution model.The application of MM algorithm can avoid complex expectation calculations,and can also solve the problem of high-dimensional optimization by decomposing the objective function.In this paper,MM algorithm is applied to the parameter estimation problem of mixed distribution model.The method of assembly and decomposition is used to construct the substitute function with separable parameters,which avoids the problems of complex expectation calculations and the inversion of high-dimensional matrices.

Decreased Nrf2 protein level and low sperm quality in intractable spermatocystitis

To investigate the molecular etiology of low sperm quality in patients with intractable spermatocystitis,spermatozoa samples from patients with persistent hematospermia undergoing transurethral seminal vesiculoscopy and healthy volunteers were utilized.Spermatozoa samples were collected from the seminal vesicles through transurethral seminal vesiculoscopy or by masturbation ejaculation.Sperm quality was analyzed by a WLJY-9000 color semen analysis system.Measurement of tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNFa)and interleukin-6(IL-6)in the seminal plasma was performed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Measurement of H_(2)O_(2)in the seminal plasma was performed with a hydrogen peroxide kit.The protein levels of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2)and phosphorylated-Nrf2(p-Nrf2)were measured by western blot analysis and immunofluorescence assays.Low sperm quality parameters and increased levels of inflammatory cytokines(TNFa,IL-6,and H_(2)O_(2))in the seminal plasma were detected among the semen samples from the patients with persistent hematospermia.Nrf2 and p-Nrf2 were strongly expressed in the nucleus and periphery of human sperm cells,according to the results of the immunofluorescence assays.The protein levels of Nrf2 and p-Nrf2 were significantly lower in the spermatozoa samples from patients with persistent hematospermia than in those from healthy volunteers with normal sperm motility.The results suggested that Nrf2 signaling might play a role in the low sperm quality of patients with intractable spermatocystitis.

We report the photo-mediated 1,2-aryl migration of 2‑chloro-1-arylpropanones to 2-arylpropionic acids using HCOONa as an acid scavenger.This pragmatically focused study obviates the multiple-step sequence in the industrially employed,ZnO-promoted rearrangement strategy,and offers rapid access to various 2-arylpropionic acids under environmentally friendly conditions.Furthermore,the successful transfer of this batch photochemistry to a continuous flow platform led to improved scalability and enabled the gram-scale synthesis of loxoprofen.
