Pro.eo.ic analyses were do.e o. 2 chemo.enso.y appendages o. the lo.e star tick, Amblyo.ma americanum. Pro.eins in the fo.e tarsi, which co.tain the o.facto.y Haller＇s o.gan, and in the palps, that include gustato.y sensilla, were co.pared with pro.eins in the third tarsi. Also. male and female ticks were co.pared. Pro.eins were identified by sequence similarity to.kno.n pro.eins, and by 3-dimensio.al ho.o.o.y mo.eling. Pro.eo.ic data were also.co.pared with o.gan-specific transcripto.es fro. the tick Rhipicephalus micro.lus. The fo.e tarsi express a lipo.alin no. fo.nd in the third tarsi o. palps. The fo.e tarsi and palps abundantly express 2 pro.eins, which are similar to.insect o.o.ant-binding pro.eins （o.Ps）. Co.pared with insect o.Ps, the tick o.P-like sequences lacked the cysteine absent in C-minus o.Ps, and 1 tick o.P-like sequence had additio.al cysteines that were similar to.C-plus o.Ps. Fo.r pro.eins similar to.the antibio.ic pro.ein micro.lusin were fo.nd： 2 exclusively expressed in the fo.e tarsi and 1 exclusively expressed in the palps. These pro.eins lack the micro.lusin co.per-binding site, but they are mo.eled to.have a significant internal cavity, po.entially a ligand-binding site. Pro.eins similar to.the dust mite allergens Der p7 and Der f 7 were fo.nd differentially expressed in female fo.e tarsi. A pro.ein exclusively expressed in the fo.e tarsi has similarities to.Neto. which is kno.n to.be invo.ved in clustering o.io.o.ro.ic glutamate recepto.s. These results co.stitute the first repo.t o. o.P-like pro.ein sequences in ticks and po.nt to.several research avenues o. tick chemo.enso.y receptio..

The ho.n fly, Haemato.ia irritans, is a serio.s pest o. cattle in No.th America. The co.tro. o. ho.n flies has primarily relied o. insecticides. Ho.ever, the heavy use o. insecticides has led to.the develo.ment o. insecticide resistance in ho.n flies. No.el metho.s to.co.tro. ho.n flies are greatly needed. Transgenic techno.o.y is an effective to.l to.genetically mo.ify insects and may lead to.no.el metho.s o. pest co.tro. based o. geno.ic appro.ches. Here we repo.t apiggyBac-mediated transfo.matio. o. the ho.n fly via electro.o.atio.. Transfo.matio. with a DsRed fluo.escent marker pro.ein co.ing regio. was verified by PCR analysis o. individual fly bo.ies and pupal cases and sequencing o. PCR pro.ucts. Ho.ever, So.thern blo. analysis failed to.indicate the DsRed gene was integrated into.the ho.n fly geno.e. Thus, the electro.o.atio. pro.o.o. may have caused the DsRed gene to.be integrated into.bacterial symbio.ts o. the ho.n fly.
