In order to contribute to a better understanding of the biodiversity of local chicken populations, this study focused on the description of the essential qualitative parameters in the phenotypic characterization of local species. Conducted in 6 localities in the Far North Region of Cameroon (Doukoula, Yagoua, Guidiguis, Dziguilao, Maroua 3rd and Méri), a population of 240 local chickens, including 172 hens and 68 cocks were characterized in family farms. The choice of localities was made on the basis of their strong potential local chicken flocks in the region. To this end, each animal was the subject of a qualitative description based on the identification of the sex of the animal, the description of the colorations of the plumage and extremities, and the description of the types of format, plumage and crests. All observations were made with the naked eye and in daylight and then photographed. The main results show that the plumage colors are multiple and dominated by the White-Pied-Black (21.7%) and the Mille-fleur (20.8%);the wattles are dominated by the red (60%) and the pink (35.4%);the tarsi are dominated by the white (43.8%) and the black (32.08%);the white skin (92.5%) dominates over the pink skin (7.5%);the “Smooth-uniform” feather is dominant (97.08%), followed by the smooth-crested type (2.08%) and the fries type (0.82%);the medium size of the chickens is dominant (86.66%), followed by the dwarf size (9.58%) and the large size (3.75%). The results of this study demonstrate that there is a strong phenotypic diversity within the local chicken population. This diversity can serve as a basis for the development of selection, conservation and genetic potential improvement programs based on rational exploitation of the local chicken.

Background: Obesity is a chronic complex disease defined by excessive fat deposits that can impair health. Obesity occurs as a result of an imbalance in diet (energy intake) and physical activity (energy expended), multifactorial diseases due to obesogenic environment (availability of convenience food, media influence, etc.), psycho-social factors (social support systems, cultural/environmental influence, etc.) and genetic variants. Other causes are a subgroup of etiological factors (medications, diseases, immobilization, iatrogenic procedures, monogenic disease/genetic syndrome). Obesity is measured clinically by several common tools apart from body mass index (BMI), such as waist circumference (WC), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), waist-to-height ratio, and neck circumference. WC and WHR are common tools for measuring central obesity while BMI measures generalized obesity. Aims: The goal of this study is to assess the prevalence of obesity amongst health workers of David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital, Uburu, Ebonyi state, Southeast Nigeria and to note the prevailing factors. A reliable estimate of the prevalence of obesity among health workers will contribute to the statistics needed to sway policymakers in the country to take urgent and substantial action on the increasing prevalence of obesity, especially in the healthcare industry. Methodology: The study was carried out between May 2024 and June 2024 at the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital situated in Uburu, Ohaozara Local government area of Ebonyi state, Southeast Nigeria. The questionnaire was designed using the Finnish diabetic risk score (FINDRISC). It contained basic comprehending questions on age, gender, exposure to high blood pressure medication, and anthropometric measurement amongst others. The isothermal oxidizing kinetics of Co-40Cr alloy and its yttrium ion-implanted samples are studied at 1 000 ℃ in air by thermal-gravity analysis （TGA）. Scanning electronic microscopy （SEM） is used to examine the Cr2O3 oxide film＇s morphology after oxidation. Acoustic emission （AE） method is used in situ for monitoring the cracking and spalling of oxide films formed on both samples during oxidizing and subsequent air-cooling stages. Theoretical model is proposed relating to the film fracture process and is used for analyzing the acoustic emission spectrum both on time domain and on AE-event number domain. It is found that yttrium implantation remarkably reduces the isothermal oxidizing rate of Co-40Cr and improves the anti-cracking and anti-spalling properties of Cr2O3 oxide film. The reasons for the improvement are mainly that the implanted yttrium reduced the grain size of Cr2O3 oxide, increased the high temperature plasticity of oxide film, and remarkably reduced the number and size of Cr2O3/Co-40Cr inteffacial defects.

In minimally invasive surgery, one of the main objectives is to ensure safety and target reaching accuracy during needle steering inside the target organ. In this research work, the needle steering approach is determined using a robust control algorithm namely the integral sliding mode control(ISMC) strategy to eliminate the chattering problem associated with the general clinical scenario. In general, the discontinuity component of feedback control input is not appropriate for the needle steering methodology due to the practical limitations of the driving actuators. Thus in ISMC, we have incorporated the replacement of the discontinuous component using a super twisting control(STC)input due to its unique features of chattering elimination and disturbance observation characteristics. In our study, the kinematic model of an asymmetric flexible bevel-tip needle in a soft-tissue phantom is used to evaluate stability analysis. A comparative study based on the analysis of chattering elimination is executed to determine the performance of the proposed control strategy in real-time needle steering with conventional sliding mode control using vision feedback through simulation and experimental results. This validates the efficacy of the proposed control strategy for clinical needle steering.
