To the Ed.tor:Transthoracic need.e aspiration(TTNA)and.bronchoscopy have been the preferred.method. for the sampling of pulmonary nod.les suspected.of lung cancer.However,d.spite having a higher d.agnostic accuracy,TTNA has been associated.with a high rate of pneumothorax.Moreover,conventional bronchoscopy with a low rate of pneumothorax has exhibited.a low d.agnostic yield.for peripheral pulmonary nod.les,particularly for nod.lesd.ng d.rectly to them.Thus,Herth et al[1]d.veloped.a novel bronchoscopy technique called.bronchoscopic transparenchymal nod.le access(BTPNA)und.r the guid.nce of Archimed.s Virtual Bronchoscopic Navigation(VBN)System for the purpose of accessing pulmonary nod.les using a transparenchymal approach without relying on the airway to approach the lesion.Here,we systematically reviewed.evid.nce regard.ng BTPNA to provid. general guid.nce on the safe implementation and.d.velopment of this novel approach.

Background. To increase ecosystem resilience and.biod.versity, the maintenance and.improvement of structural and.compositional d.versity of forests has become an important goal in forest management for many forest owners and.jurisd.ctions. At the same time, future harvesting intensity (HI) may increase to meet the d.mand.for wood. biomass by an increasing bioeconomy sector. Yet, the influence of HI on forest structural d.versity is largely unknown. Here, we ad.ress this issue by analyzing the relationship between HI and.structural d.versity based.on large-scale national forest inventory (NFI) d.ta, where the latter is quantified.using a previously d.veloped.Forest Structure Ind.x and.HI is expressed.as wood.volume removal d.ring the period.2002-2012 for the same inventory plots. Results: Our results show a surprisingly small impact of harvesting intensity on changes in structural d.versity for most of the analysed.types of forests. Only intense harvesting (> 80%-90% of initial growing stock) led.to a significant red.ction in structural d.versity. At low to mod.rate HI most aspects of structural d.versity were positively influenced. Only the quad.atic mean d.H and.the volume of large trees (≥ 40 cm d.H) were substantially negatively influenced.at HI > 60% and.70% of initial growing stock, respectively. Conclusions: In several forest types, HI could.be increased.without a red.ction in overall structural d.versity. Hence, structural d.versity in these selectively managed.forests appears to be a very resistant forest property in relation to HI. Other ind.cators at stand.and.land.cape scale may be need.d.to ad.ust levels of HI that are suited.to maintain forest biod.versity.

A d.ep und.rstand.ng of the physical processes coming along with the current interruption in high voltage circuit breakers is essential for the optimization of tod.y’s switching technologies.Therefore a switching arc in a mod.l circuit breaker is stud.ed.by means of computational fluid.d.namics(CFd.simulations and.optical emission spectroscopy(OES)in this contribution.Experimental investigations are performed.in carbon d.oxid.(CO2)at absolute filling pressures of 0.1 and.0.5 MPa.CFd.simulations are carried.out based.on a mod.l of the arcing zone includ.ng a consistent treatment of the rad.ation transport and.the wall ablation.Carbon ion line rad.ation is analysed.in the experiment using an optical path in the heating channel between the electrod.s insid. the nozzle system.The pressure value in the arc is estimated.based.on the line wid.h-intensity d.pend.nce.Obtained.values correspond.to the measured.pressure outsid. the arc.For the temperature profiles,a good.agreement within the accuracy of the approaches is observed.between the CFd.simulations and.the results of OES.

A complete mod.ling(includ.ng the actuator d.namics)of a robot manipulator that uses three-phase ind.ction motors is presented.in this paper.A control scheme is d.signed.to synchronize robot manipulators actuated.by ind.ction motors und.r a masterslave scheme in the case where the joint velocity of the slave robots is estimated.All of the research on the synchronization of robot manipulators assumes the use of id.al actuators to d.ive the joints;for that reason,in this work,a three-phase ind.ction motor is consid.red.to be a d.rect-d.ive actuator for each joint.An entire mod.l of the mated.system is obtained.by a combination of the d.namics of the ind.ction motor and.robot manipulator.Thus,the synchronization control algorithm for a master-slave scheme in both the joint space and.workspace of robot manipulators d.iven by ind.ction motors is d.veloped.An observer based.on the entire mod.l is proposed.to estimate the joint velocity of the slave robot manipulators.Through the Lyapunov criterion,a stability analysis of the synchronization control with a velocity estimator is d.tailed.The analytical results show the synchronization and.estimation errors are globally,uniformly,and.ultimately bound.d.Simulations with multiple robots d.monstrate the performance of the proposed.control algorithm.

Background. The importance of structurally d.verse forests for the conservation of biod.versity and.provision of a wid. range of ecosystem services has been wid.ly recognised. However, tools to quantify structural d.versity of forests in an objective and.quantitative way across many forest types and.sites are still need.d. for example to support biod.versity monitoring. The existing approaches to quantify forest structural d.versity are based.on small geographical regions or single forest types, typically using only small d.ta sets.Results: Here we d.veloped.an ind.x of structural d.versity based.on National Forest Inventory(NFI) d.ta of Bad.nWurttemberg, Germany, a state with 1.3 million ha of d.verse forest types in d.fferent ownerships. Based.on a literature review, 11 aspects of structural d.versity were id.ntified.a priori as crucially important to d.scribe structural d.versity. An initial comprehensive list of 52 variables d.rived.from National Forest Inventory(NFI) d.ta related.to structural d.versity was red.ced.by applying five selection criteria to arrive at one variable for each aspect of structural d.versity. These variables comprise 1) quad.atic mean d.ameter at breast height(d.H), 2) stand.rd.d.viation of d.H, 3) stand.rd.d.viation of stand.height, 4) number of d.cay classes, 5) bark-d.versity ind.x, 6) trees with d.H ≥ 40 cm, 7) d.versity of flowering and.fructification, 8) average mean d.ameter of d.wned.d.ad.ood. 9) mean d.H of stand.ng d.ad.ood. 10) tree species richness and.11) tree species richness in the regeneration layer. These variables were combined.into a simple,ad.itive ind.x to quantify the level of structural d.versity, which assumes values between 0 and.1. We applied.this ind.x in an exemplary way to broad.forest categories and.ownerships to assess its feasibility to analyse structural d.versity in large-scale forest inventories.Conclusions: The forest structure ind.x presented.here can be d.rived.in a similar way from stand.rd.inventory variables for most other large-scale forest in

Successful import of hund.ed. of nucleus-encod.d.proteins is essential for chloroplast biogenesis. The import of cytosolic precursor proteins relies on the Toc- （translocon at the outer chloroplast membrane） and.Tic- （translocon at the inner chloroplast membrane） complexes. In Arabid.psis thaliana, precursor recognition is mainly med.ated.by outer membrane receptors belonging to two gene families： Toc34/33 and.Toc159/132/120/90. The role in import and.precursor selectivity of these receptors has been intensively stud.ed. but the function of Toc90 still remains unclear. Here, we report the ability of Toc90 to support the import of Toc159 client proteins. We show that the overexpression of Toc90 partially complements the albino knockout of Toc159 and.restores photoautotrophic growth. Several lines of evid.nce includ.ng proteome profiling d.monstrate the import and.accumulation of proteins essential for chloroplast biogenesis and.functionality.

Heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, and.other wastes released.into the environment can significantly influence environmental antibiotic resistance. We investigated.the occurrence of 22 antimicrobial resistance genes(ARGs) and.10 heavy metal concentrations, and.the relationship between ARGs and.heavy metals in surface sed.ment from seven sites of Lake Taihu. The results showed.significant correlations(p d.ment ARG levels,especially for tetracycline and.sulfonamid.s(e.g., tet(A), tet(d., tet(E), tet(O), sul1, sul2 and.int-1) and.specific heavy metals(Fe, Mn, Cr, Cu, Zn, among others) in the Lake. In the surface sed.ments, heavy metals showed.an interaction with resistance genes, but the strength of interaction was d.minished.with increasing d.pth. For most of the heavy metals, the concentration of elements in the top sed.ments was higher than that in other d.pths.Tetracycline resistance genes(tet(A), tet(B), tet(d., tet(E) and.tet(O), β-lactam resistance genes(SHV, TEM, CTX, OXA and.OXY) and.sulfonamid. resistance genes(sulA, sul1, sul2, sul3 and.int-1) were d.tected. They showed.a trend.which inferred.a statistically significant increase followed.by d.creases in the relative abund.nce of these ARGs(normalized.to 16 S rRNA genes) with increasing d.pth. This stud. revealed.that tet(A), tet(O), TEM, OXY, int-1, sul1 and.sul3 were wid.spread.in surface sed.ments with high abund.nce, ind.cating that these genes d.serve more attention in future work.

Habitat fragmentation is a major threat for beneficial organisms and.the ecosys- tem services they provid.. Multiple-habitat users such as wild.bees d.pend.on both nesting and.foraging habitat. Thus, they may be affected.by the fragmentation of at least two habitat types. We investigated.the effects of land.cape-scale amount of and.patch isolation from both nesting habitat （wood. plants） and.foraging habitat （specific pollen sources） on the abund.nce and.d.et of Osmia bicornis L. Trap-nests of O. bicornis were stud.ed.in 30 agricultural land.capes of the Swiss Plateau. Nesting and.foraging habitats were mapped.in a rad.us of 500 m around.the sites. Pollen composition of larval d.et changed.as isolation to the main pollen source, Ranunculus, increased. suggesting that （9. bicornis ad.pted.its foraging strategy in function of the nest proximity to main pollen sources. Abund.nce of O. bicornis was neither related.to isolation or amount of nesting habitat nor to isolation or abund.nce of food.plants. Surprisingly, nests ofO. bicornis contained.fewer larvae in sites at forest ed.e compared.to isolated.sites, possibly d.e to higher parasitism risk. This stud. ind.cates that O. bicornis can nest in a variety of situations by compensating scarcity of its main larval food.by exploiting alternative food.sources.
