JAK2 Mutations in Chronic Myeloproliferative Neoplasm;Towards the Application of Personalized Treatments for Saudi Patients

The chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms (CMPN) are a group of clonal hematopoietic stem cell disorders in which large numbers of red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets grow and spread excess in the bone marrow and the pe- ripheral blood. Cytogenetic analysis of the t (9:22) and molecular detection of BCR/ABL is the main diagnostic criteria in Philadelphia positive CMPN (CML). The identification of non-receptor tyrosine kinase JAK2 mutations (exon 14 JAK2 V617F and exon 12) have significantly contributed to our understanding of the molecular mechanisms in the pathogenesis of Philadelphia negative CMPN such as polycythemia vera (PV), essential thrombocythemia (ET) and primary myelofibrosis (PMF) patients. According to the revised WHO classification, JAK2 mutation is considered as a major diagnostic and clonal marker in Philadelphia negative CMPN which will play a major role in designing personal- ized treatments for the disease. JAK2 V617F mutation frequency is unknown in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, investigation of the JAK2 V617F mutation was carried out in DNA samples from 78 peripheral blood specimens corresponding to patients with polycythemia vera (PV) (n = 11), Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) (n = 45), essential thrombocythemia (ET) (n = 10), idiopathic myelofibrosis (MF) (n = 12). We used polymerase chain reaction and direct DNA sequencing to detect the JAK2 mutation. Overall, the incidence of the JAK2 V617F mutation was 91% in PV, 40% in ET, and 25% in MF. This approach proved to be reliable and more sensitive in detecting the mutation. Two essential findings arose from our study. First, this technique could be carried out with DNA samples, even partially degraded, from routinely processed BM or peripheral blood specimens. Second, after correlation with morphological features, it turned out that the characteristics of the megakaryocytes were more specific than the mutational status of JAK2 in characterizing ET and PMF. The aim of this research was to examine the effects of dietary inclusion of astaxanthin from Haematococcus pluvialis in commercial fish feed on the colour and growth of red tilapia,Oreochromis sp..A 6-week feeding trial was conducted at concentration of astaxanthin at 0%(T1),4%(T2),8%(T3)and 12%(T4)in feed formulation to examine the growth performance,colour pigmentation on skin,texture analysis and carotenoid *** showed an increment of certain growth parameter in fish fed with astaxanthin enriched *** in weight gain(WG),protein efficiency ratio(PER)was obtained in fish fed with astaxanthin enriched compared with *** treatments with astaxanthin-enriched provided higher redness(a*)to skin than negative control that directly influence the colour of the *** can be concluded that inclusion of astaxanthin from green algae into commercial fish feed can be used as an alternative natural carotenoid source in Oreochromis *** to ensure good pigmentation,hence improving the skin colour for more appealing and subsequently increase the market value of the fish.

Cardiovascular risk factors among older persons with cognitive frailty in middle income country

BACKGROUND Cognitive frailty,characterized by the coexistence of cognitive impairment and physical frailty,represents a multifaceted challenge in the aging *** role of cardiovascular risk factors in this complex interplay is not yet fully *** To investigate the relationships between cardiovascular risk factors and older persons with cognitive frailty by pooling data from two cohorts of studies in *** A comprehensive approach was employed,with a total of 512 communitydwelling older persons aged 60 years and above,involving two cohorts of older persons from previous *** related to cardiovascular risks,namely sociodemographic factors,and cardiovascular risk factors,including hypertension,diabetes,hypercholesterolemia,anthropometric characteristics and biochemical profiles,were pooled for *** frailty was defined based on the Clinical Dementia Rating scale and Fried frailty *** risk was determined using Framingham risk *** analyses were conducted using SPSS version *** Of the study participants,46.3%exhibited cognitive *** risk factors including hypertension(OR:1.60;95%CI:1.12-2.30),low fat-free mass(OR:0.96;95%CI:0.94-0.98),high percentage body fat(OR:1.04;95%CI:1.02-1.06),high waist circumference(OR:1.02;95%CI:1.01-1.04),high fasting blood glucose(OR:1.64;95%CI:1.11-2.43),high Framingham risk score(OR:1.65;95%CI:1.17-2.31),together with sociodemographic factors,i.e.,being single(OR 3.38;95%CI:2.26-5.05)and low household income(OR 2.18;95%CI:1.44-3.30)were found to be associated with cognitive *** Cardiovascular-risk specific risk factors and sociodemographic factors were associated with risk of cognitive frailty,a prodromal stage of *** identification and management of cardiovascular risk factors,particularly among specific group of the population might mitigate the risk of cognitive frailty,hence preventing dementia.

Influence of contact pressure and sliding speed dependence on the tribological characteristics of an activated carbonepoxy composite derived from palm kernel under dry sliding conditions

The objective of this work is to investigate the influence of contact pressure and sliding speed on the coefficient of friction and wear of an activated carbon-epoxy composite derived from palm kernel under dry sliding conditions.A wear mode map approach was employed to identify the transitions from mild to severe wear of the *** dry sliding test was executed by utilizing a ball-on-disc tribometer at different contact pressures and sliding speeds with a constant sliding distance and operating *** results showed that,regardless of the sliding speed,the friction coefficient and wear rate of the composite increased drastically when a critical limit of contact pressure is *** for the sliding speed,both the friction coefficient and wear rate increased first and thereafter decreased at a higher speed of 500 rpm.A wear mode map is proposed to classify the boundary from mild to severe wear *** predominant wear failures identified include micro-crack,fine grooves,debonding,delamination,debris,broken carbon,and fracture.

Sonochemical synthesis of nanostructured nickel hydroxide as an electrode material for improved electrochemical energy storage application

A facile and fast approach for the synthesis of a nanostructured nickel hydroxide(Ni（OH）;) via sonochemical technique is reported in the present study. The X-ray diffraction results confirmed that the synthesized Ni（OH）;was oriented in β-phase of hexagonal brucite structure. The nanostructured Ni（OH）;electrode exhibited the maximum specific capacitance of 1256 F/g at a current density of 200 mA/g in 1 M KOH;. Ni（OH）;electrodes exhibited the pseudocapacitive behavior due to the presence of redox reaction. It also exhibited long-term cyclic stability of 85% after 2000 cycles, suggesting that the nanostructured Ni（OH）;electrode will play a promising role for high performance supercapacitor application.

Fibers are increasingly in demand for a wide range of polymer composite *** study^purpose was the development of oil palm fiber(OPF)mixed with the thermoplastic material acrylonitrile butadiene styrene(ABS)as a composite filament for fused deposition modeling(FDM).The mechanical properties of this composite filament were then *** is a fiber extracted from empty fruit bunches,which has proved to be an excellent raw material for *** cellulose content of OPF is 43%-65%,and the lignin content is 13%-25%.The composite lilament consists of OPF(5%,mass fraction)in the ABS *** fabrication procedure included alkalinizing,drying,and crushing the OPF to develop the *** OPF/ABS materials were prepared and completely blended to acquire a mix of 250 g of the material for the ***,the FLD25 filament extrusion machine was used to form the OPF/ABS composite into a *** composite filament then was used in an FDM-based 3D printer to print the ***,the printed specimens were tested for mechanical properties such as tensile and flexural *** results show that the presence of OPF had increased the tensile strength and modulus elasticity by approximately 1.9%and 1.05%,***,the flexural strength of the OPF/ABS composite had decreased by 90.6%compared with the virgin ***,the most significant outcome of the OPF/ABS composite was its suitability for printing using the FDM method.

An Analytical algorithm for Scattering Type Determination under Different Weather Conditions

This paper describes an algorithmic method to investigate and analyze scattering types during different weather conditions. Scattering effects have been distinguished and tested by analyzing captured images at regular intervals. The analyzed process performed by measuring the average intensity values of the RGB-bands for a certain selected line of the captured images. These measurements are executed in Baghdad city in a steady state for the partly cloudy, hazy and clear days. Rayleigh and Mie scattering work attractively in these days. The adopted algorithm shows the symmetric behavior for RGB bands and L-component intensity distribution which caused by scattering types for both clear and partly cloudy days while it isn’t the case for the hazy one.

Which Bit Is Better in Least Significant Bit?

The weakness of Human Auditory System (HAS) led the audio steganography process to be used in hiding data in the digital sound. Audio steganography is implemented here by using Least Significant Bit (LSB) algorithm to hide message into multiple audio files. This is achieved by 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th bits hiding ratios. In comparison to other used bits, hiding results show that the use of 1st bit in LSB method for embedding data is much better than those used bits as expected. In addition to that and according to the results, file’s size affects strongly upon the effectiveness of the embedding process while hiding starting position doesn’t affect upon the variation of the adopted statistical estimators regardless to which bit is used. Among the statistical estimators that have been adopted here, the Mean Absolute Error (MAE) seems to be the best one in testing hiding process.

Oil and gas operators worldwide are expecting service companies to deliver integrated techniques to minimize,if not prevent,drilling *** fluids perform vital functions to ensure the success of drilling *** technical challenges often associated with water-based drilling fluids are loss of critical properties,such as fluid loss control and rheology,under demanding conditions,such as in drilling deeper,high-temperature and high-pressure *** loss during drilling operations has a very significant effect in both reservoir formation damage and monetary *** use of durian rind(DR)as a new additive in controlling lost circulation would provide another opportunity to reduce waste and avoid ***,DR was used to improve the rheological properties of water-based mud,and it was prepared for use as a fluid loss *** a better understanding of the influence of pectin on drilling mud properties,the rheological evaluation of untreated DR was compared to that of mud samples containing treated *** pectin in DR was extracted using four different solvents,namely,ethanol,methanol,sodium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide,and the most effective solvent to remove the pectin was then *** Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)results showed that NaOH was the best solvent for removing pectin from *** analysis(TGA)was used to determine the thermal stability of DR before and after *** TGA results demonstrated that the treated DR had improved thermal stability compared to untreated *** sizes of DR used were coarse,medium,and *** untreated DR presented better rheological properties than the treated *** experimental investigation showed that a concentration of 20 lb/bbl of intermediate-sized DR was the best concentration among the tested samples.
