Some properties of nematic liquid crystal E7 doped with two disperse orange dyes used together and effect of addition of carbon nanoparticles （single walled carbon nanotube or fullerene C60） on them were studied. Two dyes （disperse orange 11 and 13） having high solubility and order parameter were used as co-dopants. A notable increase in order parameter was obtained comparing to that of liquid crystal doped with single dye. When carbon nanoparticles were used as dopant, a decrease in order parameter was observed at low temperatures while it increased at high temperatures. When applied voltage changed, the order parameter abruptly increased in its threshold value and saturated in higher voltages as expected. An appreciable change in textures was not observed with addition of dopants. This addition gave rise to an increase in nematic-isotropic phase transition temperatures compared with that of pure liquid crystal.

AIM:To evaluate the effect of topical preoperative nepafenac 0.1%treatment on postoperative macular edema using optical coherence tomography(OCT)after uncomplicated cataract ***:Ninety eyes of 90 patients without any risk factors were included in the *** patients were assigned to three groups:group 1,treated with topical prednisolone acetate 1%;group 2,treated with topical nepafenac 0.1%in addition to prednisolone acetate(1%);and group 3,those who started receiving nepafenac 0.1%treatment 3 d prior to surgery and continued the treatment postoperatively in addition to prednisolone acetate(1%).Central retinal thickness(CRT)and macular volume values were recorded using OCT at weeks 3 and ***:The increases in macular volume in the central 1 mm area after 3 and 6 wk were significantly lower in patients who used prophylactic topical nepafenac preoperatively(group 3)compared with those in group 1(P=0.028 and 0.008,respectively).No significant differences in the increase in macular volume and CRT were noted between groups 2 and 3(P>0.05).In group 1,the increases in macular volume in the central 3 mm area at weeks 3 and 6 were significantly higher than that in group 2 and 3(3rd week,P=0.004;6th week,P=0.005).CONCLUSION:Nepafenac 0.1%treatment in addition to topical steroids after uncomplicated cataract surgery reduce the increase in macular volume in the early postoperative period.

AIM: To report the effectiveness and safety of primary 23-Gauge (G) vitreoretinal surgery for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD). · METHODS: In this retrospective study, 49 eyes of 49 consecutive patients who underwent primary 23-G transconjunctival sutureless vitrectomy (TSV) for RRD between January 2007 and July 2009 at our institution were evaluated. · RESULTS: Mean follow-up time was 8.9±7.7 months (1-28 months). Retinal reattachment was achieved with a single operation in 47(95.9%) of 49 eyes. In two eyes (4.1%), retinal redetachment due to new breaks was successfully treated with reoperation using the 23-G TSV system. Mean logMAR visual acuity was 2.01±0.47 preoperatively and 1.3±0.5 postoperatively (P <0.001, Paired t -test). Mean preoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) was 14.1±2.8mmHg. Mean postoperative IOP was 12.3±3.6mmHg at 1 day, 13.1±2.1mmHg at 1 week, 14.3±2.2mmHg at 1 month. Iatrogenic peripheral retinal break was observed in 1 eye(2.0%) intraoperatively. No sutures were required to close the scleral or conjunctival openings, and no eyes required convertion of surgery to 20-G vitrectomy. · CONCLUSION: Primary 23-G TSV system was observed to be effective and safe in the treatment of RRD.

A novel,algorithmic“naming-meshing”system was introduced for the distinction of hypopyon from pseudohypopyon to make an early diagnosis and prompt treatment of anterior chamber collection standardized to encompass all sediment *** this reason,a literature review of“hypopyon”and“pseudohypopyon”was conducted in MEDLINE/PubMed,Scopus,and Web of Science from 1966 to May 15,*** issues were clarified:1)which strategies should the ophthalmologist follow when asked to evaluate an eye with anterior chamber sedimentation to distinguish hypopyon from pseudohypopyon,and 2)in which systemic disorders should a non-ophthalmologist order a prompt ophthalmic consultation to distinguish pseudohypopyon from *** characteristics of the sediment were examined;scleral show(warm/cold),location(corneal/anterior chamber/capsular/posterior),visibility(macro/micro/occult-angle),orientation(horizontal/vertical/oblique),number(single/double),shape(convex/triangular/pyramidal/ring/lumpy/inverse),and color(white/yellow/pink/brown/black).Associated findings were then assessed;acute/chronic,spontaneous/provoked,unilateral/bilateral,inflammatory/non-inflammatory,suppurative(nonsterile)/non-suppurative(sterile),granulomatous/nongranulomatous,recurrent/non-recurrent,shifting/nonshifting,and transient/*** type of precipitation was named(naming)and matched(meshing)to a potential list of etiologies(inflammatory,infective,therapeutic,masquerades).Given that(pseudo)hypopyon predominantly afflicts younger patients in their most productive years,clinicians supervising such patients should be aware of all sediment *** ophthalmologist should never ask non-ophthalmologists to run the full battery of tests in a patient with(pseudo)hypopyon,and rather indicate which type of collection is present,what its pathognomonic feature is,and what the most likely diagnoses to be excluded are.

Lactiplantibacillus plantarum is a significant probiotic where it could be found in ubiquitous *** this study,a new *** strain DY46 was isolated from a traditional lactic-acid-fermented beverage called *** whole genome of the DY46 was sequenced and obtained sequences were assembled into a 3.32 Mb draft genome using PATRIC(3.6.8.).The DY46 genome consists of a single circular chromosome of 3,332,827 bp that is predicted to carry 3219 genes,including 61 tRNA genes,2 rRNA *** genome has a GC content of 44.3%includes 98 predicted pseudogenes,25 complete or partial transposases and 3 intact *** genes encoding enzymes related in the intact EMP(Embden-Meyerhof-Parnas)and PK(phosphoketolase)pathways were predicted using BlastKOALA which is an indicator of having facultative heterofermentative ***46 genome also predicted to carry genes of Pln E,Pln F and Pln K showing the antimicrobial potential of this bacterium which can be linked to in vitro antagonism tests that DY46 can inhibit *** *** ATCC14028,*** ATCC13883,and *** ***,it is determined that all resistome found in its genome were intrinsically originated and the strain was found to be tolerant to acid and bile concentrations by mimicking human gastrointestinal *** conclusion,*** DY46 is a promising bacterium that appears to have certain probiotic properties,confirmed by“in vitro”and“in silico”analyses,and is a potential dietary supplement candidate that may provide functional benefits to the host.

Micro arc oxidation of wire arc sprayed Al-Mg6, Al-Si12 and Pure Al coatings on low carbon steel has been performed. The coatings have been analyzed using optic microscope, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and surface roughness tester. At the same time, voltage and current regimes are investigated during the process. Then after MAO process, uniform Al2O3 ceramic coatings have been deposited on surface of Al-Mg6, Al-Si12 and Al coated steel. The ceramic coatings are mainly composed of Al2O3 phase. The compound coatings show high hardness and significant improvement of corrosion resistance property.

BACKGROUND： Predicting the outcome of stroke during the acute phase is difficult. Accurate methods for predicting outcomes could assist clinicians and families to make correct decisions in resource-poor environments. OBJECTIVE： To determine thyroid hormone levels in patients with ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke at the early stage, and to investigate its correlation with stroke prognosis. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING： A comparative, observational study was performed at the Department of Emergency, Tertiary-care University Affiliated Hospital from January 2004 to January 2006. PARTICIPANTS： A total of 113 patients presenting to the Emergency Department within 3 hours of stroke symptom onset were approached for enrollment in the study. The patients were diagnosed by computer tomography examination, and comprised 87 ischemic stroke and 26 hemorrhagic stroke patients. METHODS： Following a thorough history and examination by emergency physicians, venous blood samples were collected from each patient. Thyroid-stimulating hormone （TSH）, free triiodothyronine （free T3）, and free thyroxine （free T4） levels were measured using a chemiluminescence method. The nerve function of patients was evaluated with Glasgow Coma Scale （GCS） score, and the patients were accordingly assigned to two subgroups-mild stroke （GCS ≥ 9） and severe stroke （GCS ≤ 8）. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： Blood levels of TSH, free T3 and free T4; mortality at 7 days. RESULTS： Mean TSH values in hemorrhagic stroke patients with GCS ≤ 8 were significantly greater than those in ischemic stroke patients with GCS ≤ 8 and GCS ≥ 9 （P 〈 0.05）. Compared with patients who survived, the highest TSH levels were detected in patients that had died within 7 days. Correlation analysis results revealed a significant negative relationship between GCS values and TSH levels in patients with hemorrhagic stroke （r= 0.552, P〈 0.01）, and no correlation was determined between GCS values and TSH levels in patients with ischemic stroke （r = 0.239,
