Benzene degradation in waste gas by photolysis and photolysis-ozonation： experiments and modeling

The degradation of benzene, a carcinogenic air pollutant, was studied in a gas-phase photochemical reactor with an amalgam lamp emitting ultraviolet light at 185 and 254 nm. Efficient benzene degradation （〉70%） was possible for benzene mass flow rates of up to 1.5 ***1. Adding ozone allowed benzene mass flow rates of up to 5 m ***-1 tobe treated with the same efficiency. In terms of energy consumption, ozone doubles the efficiency of the process. A comprenenslve mecnanisnc simulation model was developed incorporating a chemical kinetics model （62 reactions involving 47 chemical species）, a material balance model incorporating diffusion and flow, a flow velocity model,and a light field model. The model successfully predicted the efficiency of the reactor, generally within 20%, which indicates that the model is sound, and can be used for feasibility studies. The prediction of the reactor efficiency in the presence of ozone was less successful, with systematically overestimated efficiency. Condensation of reaction products in the reactor is thought to be the mare cause of model inaccuracy. Both experimental .data and model predictions show that there is a synergistic effect between ozonation and ultraviolet degradation.

The light curve analyses and orbital period variations for two contact binary stars,LS Del and V997 Cyg,are presented in this work which was conducted in the frame of the Binary Systems of South and North project Ground-based photometric observations were performed at two observatories in *** used the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite(TESS)data for extracting times of minima and light curve analysis of the targe *** O-C diagram for both systems displays a parabolic *** Del and V997 Cyg’s orbital periods are increasing at rates of dP/dt=7.20×10^(-08)days yr^(-1)and dP/dt=2.54×10^(-08)days yr^(-1),respectively Therefore,it can be concluded that mass is being transferred from the less massive star to the more massive component with a rate of dM/dt=-1.96×10^(-7)M_(⊙)yr^(-1)for the LS Del system,and dM/dt=-3.83×10^(-7)M_(⊙)yr-1for V997 *** parameters of a third possible object in the system are also *** PHysics Of Eclipsing BinariEs Python code was used to analyze the light *** light curve solutions needed a cold starspot due to the asymmetry in the LS Del system’s light curve *** mass ratio fill-out factor,and star temperature all indicate that both systems are contact binary types in this *** methods were applied to estimate the absolute parameters of the systems:one method relied on the parallax of Gaia DR3,and the other used a P-M *** positions of the systems are also depicted on the M-L,M-R q-L_(ratio),and logM_(tot)-logJ_(0)*** recommend that further observations and investigations be done on the existence of a fourth body in this system.

Metabolic collaboration between cells in the tumor microenvironment has a negligible effect on tumor growth

The tumor microenvironment is composed of a complex mixture of different cell types interacting under conditions of nutrient deprivation,but the metabolism therein is not fully understood due to difficulties in measuring metabolic fluxes and exchange of metabolites between different cell types in ***-scale metabolic modeling enables estimation of such exchange fluxes as well as an opportunity to gain insight into the metabolic behavior of individual cell ***,we estimated the availability of nutrients and oxygen within the tumor microenvironment using concentration measurements from blood together with a metabolite diffusion *** addition,we developed an approach to efficiently apply enzyme usage constraints in a comprehensive metabolic model of human *** combined modeling reproduced severe hypoxic conditions and the Warburg effect,and we found that limitations in enzymatic capacity contribute to cancer cells’preferential use of glutamine as a substrate to the citric acid ***,we investigated the common hypothesis that some stromal cells are exploited by cancer cells to produce metabolites useful for the cancer *** identified over 200 potential metabolites that could support collaboration between cancer cells and cancer-associated fibroblasts,but when limiting to metabolites previously identified to participate in such collaboration,no growth advantage was *** work highlights the importance of enzymatic capacity limitations for cell behaviors and exemplifies the utility of enzyme-constrained models for accurate prediction of metabolism in cells and tumor microenvironments.

Effects of L-carnitine on treatment outcomes of COVID-19 patients hospitalized in intensive care units:A double-blind randomized clinical trial

Objective:To assess the effects of L-carnitine on the outcomes of patients with moderate to severe coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)in intensive care unit(ICU).Methods:This double-blind clinical trial was carried out in 2022-2023.64 Patients with COVID-19 were selected from Amiralmomenin and Khansari hospitals in Arak,*** were randomly assigned to the control and the L-carnitine treatment group via block *** blood gases,disease severity,and levels of D-dimer,lactate dehydrogenase,ferritin,and C-reactive protein were daily assessed during the seven days of the intervention,and the length of ICU stay,the need for endotracheal intubation,and mortality rate were ***:There were significant differences in length of ICU stay,the need for endotracheal intubation,and levels of D-dimer,lactate dehydrogenase,ferritin,APACHE栻score,and C-reactive protein between the two groups(P0.05).Conclusions:L-carnitine can improve outcomes of patients with ***,it can be used as an adjuvant therapy for these patients.

Functionalized hydrogels stimulate the migration and morphogenesis of endothelial cells(ECs)and are useful substrates for wound *** present study investigates the feasibility of covalent conjugation of taurine(Tau)on a gelatin-based *** hydrogel is expected to maintain positive charged growth factors such as basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF)and vascular endothelial growth factors(VEGFs)near ECs within the hydrogel *** gelatin was conjugated with hydroxyl phenol(Ph)and Tau moieties,and in following that Ph residues were crosslinked through a horseradish peroxidase-catalyzed *** migration characteristics of ECs were analyzed by scratch migration assay and microparticle-based cell migration *** morphology and amounts of angiopoietin 1(Ang 1),bFGF,and VEGF proteins were evaluated for encapsulated *** potential of synthesized hydrogels in wound healing was assessed by the percentage of reduction from the original wound size and histopathological analyses of rat *** incorporated Tau molecules within the hydrogel remained stable through covalent bonds during *** extended incubation,the gelatin-based hydrogel conjugated with Tau improved the migration distance and number of existing migrated *** Tau within the gelatin-based hydrogel induced high motility of ECs,accompanied by robust cytoskeleton extension and a cell subpopulation that expressed CD44 and CD31 receptors as well as enhancement of Ang 1,bFGF,and *** found that injectable Gel-Ph-Tau effectively improves wound-healing parameters.

Thirty years of the human immunodeficiency virus epidemic and beyond

After more than 30 years of battling a global epidemic, the prospect of eliminating human immunodeficiency virus （HIV） as the most challenging infectious disease of the modern era is within our reach. Major scientific discoveries about the virus responsible for this immunodeficiency disease state, including its pathogenesis, transmission patterns and clinical course, have led to the development of potent antiretroviral drugs that offer great hopes in HIV treatment and prevention. Although these agents and many others still in development and testing are capable of effectively suppressing viral replication and survival, the medical management of HIV infection at the individual and the population levels remains challenging. Timely initiation of antiretroviral drugs, adherence to the appropriate therapeutic regimens, effective use of these agents in the pre and post-exposure prophylaxis contexts, treatment of comorbid conditions and addressin~ social and nsvcholo2ical factors involved in the care of individuals continue to be important considerations.

Circulation cells topology and their effect on migration pattern of different multi-bend meandering rivers

In meandering rivers,a cross-stream flow,referred to as a secondary current,has important effects on broad spectra of hydraulic/environmental characteristics,running the gamut from river hydrodynamics and geomorphology to stream *** transport equation for vorticity and kinetic energy transfer should be analyzed to specify terms involved in generation of secondary ***,there is limited research on scrutinizing these terms in meandering *** the other hand,while rivers are mostly multi-bend,previous studies have been limited to single *** the current paper,three physical multi-bend channels representing a strongly curved bend,a mild bend and an elongated symmetrical meander loop are designed in order to unravel mechanisms responsible for forming circulation cells in cross *** are carried out in the middle bend of these *** turbulence anisotropy considerably strengthens almost all near bank ***,contrary to single sharp bends,multi bend effects hinder the transfer of the kinetic energy in both directions in the entrance section of the strongly curved bend.

Determination of Violet Covasol as a cosmetic dye in water samples by a CPE-Scanometry method

The trace amounts of Violet Covasol as a cosmetic dye was determined by an efficient cloud point extraction-Scanometry （CPE-Scanometry） method. This method has many advantages such as novelty, facility, high speed, sensitivity, low cost and safety. The method is based on the CPE of an analyte from an aqueous solution, diluting the extracted surfactant-rich phase with ethanol, transferring to Plexiglas~ cell and scanning of the cells containing the analyte solution with a scanner and measuring the RGB parameters with software written in visual basic （VB 6） media. Parameters impacting the extraction efficiency such as pH of the system, the concentration of surfactant, equilibration temperature and time were optimized. Detection limit （DL）, relative standard deviation （RSD） and linear range for the proposed method are 0.026, 0.71 and 0.16-6.6 μg mL 1 respectively. The method was successfully applied for the determination of Violet Covasol dye in several water samples, including a water sample containing the dye as a tracer （to investigate subsurface water movement）.
