Background Retinopathy of prem.turity(ROP)is generally considered to be m.re frequent in m.les than in ***,it is not known whether sex differences in ROP affect all degrees of the condition,are global and have changed as neonatology has *** aim.d to conduct a system.tic review and m.ta-analysis of studies addressing sex differences in the risk of developing *** Pubm.d/m.DLINE and Em.ase databases were *** frequentist,random.effects risk ratio(RR)and 95%confidence interval(CI)were *** m.del averaged(Bm.)m.ta-analysis was used to calculate the Bayes factors(BFs).The BF10 is the ratio of the probability of the data under the alternative hypothesis(H1)over the probability of the data under the null hypothesis(H0).Results We included 205 studies(867,252 infants).Frequentist m.ta-analysis showed a positive association between m.le sex and severe ROP(113 studies,RR=1.14,95%CI=1.07–1.22)but no association with any ROP(144 studies,RR=1.00,95%CI=0.96–1.03).Bm. showed extrem. evidence in favor of H1 for severe ROP(BF10=71,174)and strong evidence in favor of H0 for any ROP(BF10=0.05).The association between m.le sex and severe ROP rem.ined stable over tim. and was present only in cohorts from.countries with a high or high-m.ddle sociodem.graphic *** Our study confirm. the presence of a m.le disadvantage in severe ROP but not in less severe form. of the *** are variations in the sex differences in ROP,depending on geographical location and sociodem.graphic level of the countries.

Liver m.tastasis is a norm.l result in Ehrlich Ascites Carcinom. Cell (EAC) infected m.ce. A partially purified protein with Superoxide Dism.tase (SOD)-like activity extracted from.leaves of Raphnus sativus was tested for its ability to down regulate liver m.tastasis of Ehrlich Ascites Carcinom. Cell (EAC) intraperitoneally im.lanted in albino m.ce. Sixty albino m.ce were divided equally into 4 groups. Group I m.ce (G1 control) were treated with physiologic saline solution for 7 days. Group 2 m.ce (G2) were injected with the partially purified protein. Group 3 m.ce (G3) were intraperitoneally inoculated with EAC cells and treated with the partially purified protein. Group 4 m.ce (G4) were inoculated EAC cells and treated with physiologic saline solution. The results showed a disturbance in liver functions. This disturbance was observed as a reduction in the values of serum.album.n, hem.globin, total counts of erythrocytes and platelets, total lipids in liver tissues, erythrocytes SOD activity, serum.glucose, reduced glutathione (GSH) and the trace elem.nts (Fe, m., Zn, and Cu) contents in liver and spleen tissues as well as the elevation of serum.transam.nases activities, the levels of m.londialdehyde in blood, DNA and RNA of liver tissues in the infected m.ce (G4). On the other hand, in G3, after treatm.nt with the partial purified protein all these param.ters restored their norm.l values and becam. near from.the norm.l group (GI). m.reover, the protein showed no toxicity towards the m.ce as shown in G2. It could be concluded that a partially purified protein with Superoxide Dism.tase (SOD)-like activity extracted from.leaves of Raphnus sativus as a nature source has a prom.sed future in controlling liver m.tastasis.

Cancer occurs when the body’s cells grow beyond the usual control. Norm.l body cells m.ltiply in a controlled m.nner and undergo apoptosis when the body no longer needs them. Different types of cancers exist, and the com.on ones include breast, cervical, prostate, lung, colon, and skin cancers. Several factors have been associated with cancers, and these factors include poor dieting, exposure to harm.ul chem.cals and radiation, weak im.une system. and genetics. Cancer presents an enorm.us health threat in the m.dern world and thus the need to identify an effective treatm.nt. The conventional treatm.nts used in the m.nagem.nt of cancer include chem.therapy and physiotherapy. These form. of cancer treatm.nts usually have enorm.us side effects on the subjects. In this respect, an alternative form.of treatm.nt would be effective in m.naging cancer patients. A substantial num.er of natural products have been observed to be effective in the m.nagem.nt of cancer. These natural products include plants and other natural substances such as honey. This study focuses on the efficiency of natural products in the treatm.nt of cancer. Also, the anticancer effects of Peganum.harm.la, m.nuka honey, and Saudi honey will be analyzed. Bee honey and Peganum.harm.la have been traditionally used in the treatm.nt of cancer. The extracts from.Peganum.harm.la plant have also been shown to exhibit divers’ antitum.r effects sim.lar to the m.de of action of a vast num.er of anticancer agents. These established hypotheses thus give the rationale for this study. In this experim.nt, extracts were obtained from.Peganum.harm.la leaves and exposed to cervical, lung, and prostate cancer cells. Sim.larly, solutions of m.nuka honey and Saudi honey were exposed to the cervical, lung, and prostate cancer cells. The experim.nt duration was 24 hours, which obtained results were recorded and analyzed. Peganum.harm.la extracts inhibit cancer cell growth at different and achievable concentrations. m.nuka honey

Water insufficiency is the ham.ering feature of crop sustainability,especially in arid and sem.-arid ***,the effectual usage of all water resources especially underground brackish water represents the core priority in Saudi *** present study aim.d to recognize the influence of different types of water irrigation(tap water as a control,salinized well water,and m.gnetized salinized well water)with or without soil am.ndm.nts(soil without any am.ndm.nt as a control,peat-m.ss,ferrous sulfate,and peat-m.ss plus ferrous sulfate)on petunia plant growth and flowering as well as ion *** Petunia plants with saline well water adversely affected growth and flowering as com.ared to tap water and m.gnetized saline well ***,plants irrigated with m.gnetized water showed a significant enhancem.nt in all the studied vegetative and flowering growth param.ters as com.ared to those irrigated with salinized well ***,m.neral contents and survival of Petunia plants irrigated with m.gnetized well water were higher than those irrigated with tap *** with m.gnetized well water significantly reduced levels of Na+and Cl−ions in leaves of Petunia plants indicating the role of m.gnetization in alleviating harm.ul effects of *** conclusion,we recom.end the utilization of m.gnetized saline well water for irrigating Petunia plants either alone or in com.ination with soil am.ndm.nts(peat m.ss plus ferrous sulfate).

Background: The available data on cryptogenic chronic hypersensitivity pneum.nitis (ccHP) indicate an inherited predisposition to disease with triggering autoim.une phenom.na. Hence, we evaluated prospectively the role of a new autoim.une regim.n in treatm.nt of its severe and progressive disease. Patients and m.thods: A total of 9 patients were included in the study. They had criteria for ccHP viz. 1) clinical features of cryptogenic progressive restrictive lung disease, 2) high-resolution com.uted tom.graphic pulm.nary abnorm.lities, and 3) bronchoalveolar lavage lym.hocytosis (>30%). The regim.n consisted of an initial induction phase of 3-m.nth Solum.drol 1 g IV daily for 3 days followed by 1 m.nth of Prednisone (P) 60 m./day to tapered down to discontinuation by 3rd m.nth. They also had received m.cophenolate m.fetil (m.F) 1 g twice daily for 3 m.nths. This stage was followed by a m.intenance phase of yearly Rituxim.b infusions (1 g followed by 1 g 2 weeks later). Results: com.ared to their previous 6 m.nths deterioration;all patients showed significant im.rovem.nt in their forced vital volum., diffusion capacity for carbon m.noxide, 6-m.nutes-walk after the induction phase (at 3 m.nths) which im.roved further at 15 m.nths with Rituxim.b therapy. Conclusion: After 3-m.nth induction therapy with P and m.F;yearly R treatm.nt is a safe, practical and effective long-term.therapy for ccHP.

Over the course of the 3 decades, percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI) with stent im.lantation transform.d the practice of cardiology. PCI with stenting is currently the m.st widely perform.d procedure for the treatm.nt of sym.tom.tic coronary disease. In large trials, drugeluting stents(DES) have led to a significant reduction in in-stent restenosis(ISR) rates, one of the m.jor lim.tations of bare-m.tal stents. Due to these favorable findings, DES was rapidly and widely adopted enabling m.re com.lex coronary interventions. Nevertheless, ISR rem.ins a serious concern as late stent com.lications. ISR m.inly results from.aggressive neointim.l proliferation and neoatherosclerosis. DES-ISR treatm.nt continues to be challenging com.lications for interventional cardiologists.

Percutaneous devices for left atrial appendage occlusion: A contem.orary review

Patient with atrial fibrillation(AF) are at risk of developing stroke with the left atrial appendage(LAA) being the m.st com.on site for throm.us form.tion. If left untreated, AF is associated with 4 to 5 folds increase in the risk of ischem.c stroke in all age groups. About 5% to 15% of AF patients have atrial throm.i on transesophageal echocardiography, and 91% of those throm.i are located in the LAA in patient with nonrheum.tic AF. Although oral anticoagulants are the gold-standard treatm.nt for stroke prevention in patients with non-valvular AF,som. patients are at high risk of bleeding and deem.d not candidates for anticoagulation. Therefore, LAA occlusion(LAAO) has em.rged as alternative approach for stroke prevention in those patients. Surgical LAAO is associated with high rate of unsuccessful closure and recom.ended only in patients with AF and undergoing cardiac surgery. Percutaneous LAAO uses transvenous access with trans-septal puncture and was first tested using the PLAATO *** is the m.st com.on and only Food and Drug Adm.nistration(FDA)approved device for LAAO. LAAO using Watchm.n device is non-inferior to warfarin therapy in preventing ischem.c stroke/system.c ***, it is associated with lower rates of hem.rrhagic stroke, bleeding and death. Am.latzer is another successful LAAO device that has CE m.rk and is waiting for FDA approval. Optim.l antithrom.otic therapy post LAAO is still under debate and highly patient-specific. The aim.of this paper is to system.tically review the current literature to evaluate the efficacy and safety of different LAAO devices.
