Today, mammography is the best method for early detection of breast cancer. Radiologists failed to detect evident cancerous signs in approximately 20% of false negative mammograms. False negatives have been identified as the inability of the radiologist to detect the abnormalities due to several reasons such as poor image quality, image noise, or eye fatigue. This paper presents a framework for a computer aided detection system that integrates Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Fisher Linear Discriminant (FLD), and Nearest Neighbor Classifier (KNN) algorithms for the detection of abnormalities in mammograms. Using normal and abnormal mammograms from the MIAS database, the integrated algorithm achieved 93.06% classification accuracy. Also in this paper, we present an analysis of the integrated algorithm’s parameters and suggest selection criteria.

Maximizing aged photovoltaic array power: a computer modelling study

Photovoltaic (PV) modules age with time for various reasons such as corroded joints and terminals and glass coating defects, and their ageing degrades the PV array power. With the help of the PV array numerical model, this paper explores the effects of PV module ageing on the PV array power, and the power gains and costs of rearranging and recabling aged PV modules in a PV array. The numerical PV array model is first revised to account for module ageing, rearrangement and recabling, with the relevant equations presented herein. The updated numerical model is then used to obtain the array powers for seven different PV arrays. The power results are then analysed in view of the attributes of the seven PV array examples. A guiding method to recommend recabling after rearranging aged modules is then proposed, leading to further significant power gains, while eliminating intra-row mismatches. When certain conditions are met, it was shown that recabling PV modules after rearranging them may lead to further significant power gains, reaching 57% and 98% in two considered PV array examples. Higher gains are possible in other arrays. A cost-benefit analysis weighing annual power gains versus estimated recabling costs is also given for the seven considered PV array examples to guide recabling decisions based on technical and economic merits. In the considered examples, recabling costs can be recovered in <4 years. Compared with the powers of the aged arrays, power gains due to our proposed rearranging and recabling the PV arrays ranged between 73% and 131% in the considered examples-well over the gains reported in the literature. Moreover, the cost of our static module rearrangement and recabling method outshines the costs of dynamic reconfiguration methods recently published in the literature.

This survey paper provides a review and perspective on intermediate and advanced reinforcement learning(RL)techniques in process industries. It offers a holistic approach by covering all levels of the process control hierarchy. The survey paper presents a comprehensive overview of RL algorithms,including fundamental concepts like Markov decision processes and different approaches to RL, such as value-based, policy-based, and actor-critic methods, while also discussing the relationship between classical control and RL. It further reviews the wide-ranging applications of RL in process industries, such as soft sensors, low-level control, high-level control, distributed process control, fault detection and fault tolerant control, optimization,planning, scheduling, and supply chain. The survey paper discusses the limitations and advantages, trends and new applications, and opportunities and future prospects for RL in process industries. Moreover, it highlights the need for a holistic approach in complex systems due to the growing importance of digitalization in the process industries.

Color fading caused by a decrease in anthocyanin accumulation during the post-flowering stage significantly affects postharvest quality of ***,the underlying mechanism by which anthocyanin accumulation decreases during the post-flowering stage still unclear,which greatly restricts design of molecular breeding in ***,a chrysanthemum SG7 R2R3 MYB transcription factor(TF),CmMYB3-like,was identified to have a function in regulating anthocyanin biosynthesis during the post-flowering *** real time PCR(qRT-PCR)assays showed that the expression of CmMYB3-like was gradually downregulated when anthocyanin content increased during the flowering stage and was significantly upregulated during the post-flowering *** transformation of chrysanthemum and dual-luciferase assays in *** leaves showed that CmMYB3-like suppressed anthocyanin accumulation by inhibiting the transcription of CmCHS and CmANS directly and that of CmF3H ***,overexpression or suppression of CmMYB3-like did not affect the biosynthesis of flavones or *** transformation of chrysanthemum revealed that the overexpression of CmMYB3-like inhibited anthocyanin accumulation,but its suppression prevented the decrease in anthocyanin accumulation during the post-flowering *** results revealed a crucial role of CmMYB3-like in regulating the color of petals during the post-flowering stage and provided a target gene for molecular design breeding to improve the postharvest quality of chrysanthemum.

BACKGROUND Unroofed coronary sinus(UCS)is a rare subtype of atrial septal *** is frequently associated with a persistent left superior vena cava and is often part of a more intricate cardiac *** SUMMARY This report describes a rare case of an adolescent patient with UCS featuring atrial situs solitus,absence of the right superior vena cava and a persistent left superior vena cava draining into the left atrium consistent with total unroofing of the coronary *** was associated with concurrent severe mitral insufficiency secondary to redundant and prolapsing leaflets,and a substantial left-to-right shunt across the coronary sinus orifice.A comprehensive examination of the existing literature is included,shedding light on the diagnostic challenges of UCS and describing the available surgical options within the context of mitral valve *** UCS is a complex condition requiring careful consideration of associated anomalies and a tailored surgical approach.

The phenotypic diversity resulting from artificial or natural selection of sheep has made a significant contribution to human *** sheep are a local sheep breed unique to China with high reproductive rates and rapid *** selection signatures have been widely used to investigate the genetic mechanisms underlying phenotypic variation in ***,we conduct whole-genome sequencing of 207 Hu sheep and compare them with the wild ancestors of domestic sheep(Asiatic mouflon)to investigate the genetic characteristics and selection signatures of Hu *** on six signatures of selection approaches,we detect genomic regions containing genes related to reproduction(BMPR1B,BMP2,PGFS,CYP19,CAMK4,GGT5,and GNAQ),vision(ALDH1A2,SAG,and PDE6B),nervous system(NAV1),and immune response(GPR35,SH2B2,PIK3R3,and HRAS).Association analysis with a population of 1299 Hu sheep reveals that those missense mutations in the GPR35(GPR35 g.952651 A>G;GPR35 g.952496 C>T)and NAV1(NAV1 g.84216190 C>T;NAV1 g.84227412 G>A)genes are significantly associated(P<0.05)with immune and growth traits in Hu sheep,*** research offers unique insights into the selection characteristics of Hu sheep and facilitates further genetic improvement and molecular investigations.

Hybrid IPOM: A Novel Technique for the Management of Incisional Hernia

Background and Aim: The incidence of incisional hernias has been reported to be around 15%. In the present scenario, a wide array of surgical procedures are available for their better management. In this study, we intend to share our experience with one novel technique, “Hybrid IPOM (Intraperitoneal onlay meshplasty)” as a management option for a selected cohort of patients. Methods: This prospective study was undertaken during January 2019 to July 2023 at King Abdullah medical city, Makkah. A total of 51 cases were selected for Hybrid IPOM repair as per inclusion criteria;medium sized (4 - 10 cm) hernia defects;uncomplicated hernias;age more than 18 years. The follow-up period of the patients varied from 6 months to 4 years. The operation commenced with open hernia dissection, mesh deployment into abdomen, defect closure and then conversion to laparoscopy for the posterior mesh placement. Results: A total of 51 cases were repaired successfully with this technique. 48 out of 51 cases were incisional hernias secondary to some primary procedure done either for hernias itself or some other intra-abdominal pathology. The three cases were primary hernias falling in medium to large category with unaesthetic overlying skin. The age range was 19 to 72 years. The mean (range) operative time was 135 (90 - 240) min, and the average blood loss was 70 ml. The mean (range) hospital stay was 3 (2 - 11) days. All patients returned to routine work within 2 - 3 weeks of surgery. The median follow-up was 15 (6 - 48) months. Of the 51 cases, 3 patients developed seroma (managed conservatively), 1 patient developed a large hematoma (needed evacuation), and 1 patient developed superficial wound infection (managed with antibiotics). Two patients had recurrences;one patient had previously failed multiple repairs, and the other developed a postoperative hematoma. None of our patients had an iatrogenic bowel injury.
