A 70-year-old female with metastatic cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma(cSCC)and low-grade non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma,not amenable to cisplatin combination therapy,was treated with cyclophoshamide(Cyc)-fluorouracil(FU)-interleukin-2(IL-2)in light of high tumor immunogenicity and the potential activity of this regimen.Cyc 300 mg/m^(2)and FU 500 mg/m^(2)intravenously on day 1 and IL-24.5 MIU/day on days 3-6 and 17-20 subcutaneously every 4 weeks;Carboplatin(C)AUC 2 and paclitaxel(P)85 mg/m^(2)on days 1,8 and 15±capecitabine(Cape)every 4 weeks.After partial remission(PR)of lung metastases and local control with two cycles of first therapy followed by PR with five cycles of CP±Cape,right mastectomy was performed with evidence of viable tumor.Subsequently,the patient underwent 3 cycles of chlorambucil and is alive after 13 months of follow-up.Safety and activity of chemo-immunotherapy and salvage treatment can be achieved in cSCC.

Air distribution of HVAC systems is the most popular type used in the building sector,having a relevant impact on indoor air quality and occupant wellness.Many types of research developed optimal solutions for the HVAC system’s design,focusing on specific components of the distribution system,on the airflow and geometry of ducts,on the size of ducts,on the shape and position of air diffusers.However,few works in literature proposed a globally experimental and simulation analysis of an air distribution system with a variable mass flaw rate.Along this line,the presented research investigates the potentialities of a new ceiling diffuser,installed in an exhibition room.This system provides a variable mass flow rate thanks to its configuration,providing adequate thermal comfort.A warm wall is chosen as the heating system.Several tests are carried out,six for cooling and two for heating with different volumetric air rates and supply air temperature of the diffusers.The combination of two methods,the measurement campaigns and the computational fluid dynamics(CFD)technique represent a suitable approach to examine the thermal indoor environment.In general,results show a strong capability of this diffuser to provide a uniform temperature and velocity field inside the room.Moreover,experimental and numerical data are significantly comparable with an average deviation of 1%for the velocity and lower 1%for the temperature,guaranteeing an optimal distribution of the understudy environmental parameters on the vertical and horizontal planes.

Epigenetic mechanisms regulate the chromatin structure and gene expression levels without changing the primary DNA sequence,and include DNA methylation and hydroxymethylation,post-translational modifications of histone tails and nucleosome positioning,as well as mechanisms mediated by long and short non-coding RNA molecules.These mechanisms are required for human development and cell differentiation,and are pivotal in differentiated cells for cellular functions,allowing a tight regulation of gene expression levels in response to environmental stimuli and cellular metabolic demands(Coppedè,2021b).Particularly,the neuronal epigenome is highly sensitive to external stimuli and its function is required for learning and memory processes(Creighton et al.,2020).Several enzymes,collectively referred to as the“epigenetic machinery”,add,remove and read epigenetic marks,allowing chromatin remodeling to promote or repress gene transcription.The activity of these enzymes allows the reversibility of epigenetic marks,which is pivotal in neurons for memory formation and consolidation(Creighton et al.,2020).

Plants show an incredible diversity of forms,dimensions,archi-tectures,structures,and reproductive behaviors.Yet,they can be geometrically described as composed of simple building units called phytomers,which are produced by the shoot apical meri-stem(SAM).A phytomer is made up of a node bearing a leaf and an axillary meristem,and of an internode connecting the node to the following phytomer.Piling of phytomers creates the plant body,similarly to a LEGO construction made of simple bricks.Modifications of the phytomeric unit creates diversity.The leaf can change in size and shape;the axillary meristem can be dormant or active,determinate or indeterminate;the internode can elongate considerably,or be compressed to the extent it might look invisible.

Temporal ontologies allow to represent not only concepts,their properties,and their relationships,but also time-varying information through explicit versioning of definitions or through the four-dimensional perdurantist view.They are widely used to formally represent temporal data semantics in several applications belonging to different fields(e.g.,Semantic Web,expert systems,knowledge bases,big data,and artificial intelligence).They facilitate temporal knowledge representation and discovery,with the support of temporal data querying and reasoning.However,there is no standard or consensual temporal ontology query language.In a previous work,we have proposed an approach namedτJOWL(temporal OWL 2 from temporal JSON,where OWL 2 stands for"OWL 2 Web Ontology Language"and JSON stands for"JavaScript Object Notation").τJOWL allows(1)to automatically build a temporal OWL 2 ontology of data,following the Closed World Assumption(CWA),from temporal JSON-based big data,and(2)to manage its incremental maintenance accommodating their evolution,in a temporal and multi-schema-version environment.In this paper,we propose a temporal ontology query language forτJOWL,namedτSQWRL(temporal SQWRL),designed as a temporal extension of the ontology query language—Semantic Query-enhanced Web Rule Language(SQWRL).The new language has been inspired by the features of the consensual temporal query language TSQL2(Temporal SQL2),well known in the temporal(relational)database community.The aim of the proposal is to enable and simplify the task of retrieving any desired ontology version or of specifying any(complex)temporal query on time-varying ontologies generated from time-varying big data.Some examples,in the Internet of Healthcare Things(IoHT)domain,are provided to motivate and illustrate our proposal.

Nowadays,ontologies,which are defined under the OWL 2 Web Ontology Language(OWL 2),are being used in several fields like artificial intelligence,knowledge engineering,and Semantic Web environments to access data,answer queries,or infer new knowledge.In particular,ontologies can be used to model the semantics of big data as an enabling factor for the deployment of intelligent analytics.Big data are being widely stored and exchanged in JavaScript Object Notation(JSON)format,in particular by Web applications.However,JSON data collections lack explicit semantics as they are in general schema-less,which does not allow to efficiently leverage the benefits of big data.Furthermore,several applications require bookkeeping of the entire history of big data changes,for which no support is provided by mainstream Big Data management systems,including Not only SQL(NoSQL)database systems.In this paper,we propose an approach,namedJOWL(temporal OWL 2 from temporal JSON),which allows users(i)to automatically build a temporal OWL 2 ontology of data,following the Closed World Assumption(CWA),from temporal JSON-based big data,and(ii)to manage its incremental maintenance accommodating the evolution of these data,in a temporal and multi-schema environment.

Many older adults suffer from persistent pain but prevalence studies consistently showed high levels of untreated or under-treated pain in old population.Both persistent pain and pain under-treatment adversely affect independence and quality of life in geriatric patients.Pain management is challenging in this age-group because of the declining organ function,the presence of concurrent diseases and polypharmacy.For all the above reasons,persistent pain in the elderly should be considered a geriatric syndrome per se and effective approaches are warranted.Current guidelines and consensus statements recommend opioid therapy for older adults with moderateto-severe persistent pain or functional impairment and diminished quality of life due to pain.However clinicians and patients themselves have some concerns about opioids use.Age-related decline in organs functions and warnings about risk of addiction and drug misuse/abuse also in geriatric patients need particular attention for safe prescribing.On the basis of clinical evidence,these practical recommendations will help to improve the competence on opioid role in persistent pain management and the likelihood of a successful analgesic trial in older patients.

This contribution focuses on a multidisciplinary research showing the geomorphological evolution and the beach sand composition of the Tyrrhenian shoreline between Capo Suvero promontory and Gizzeria Lido village(Calabria,southern Italy). The aim of the geomorphological analysis was to reconstruct the evolutionary shoreline stages and the present-day sedimentary dynamics along approximately 6 km of coastline. The results show a general trend of beach nourishment during the period 1870–2019. In this period, the maximum shoreline accretion value was estimated equal to + 900 m with an average rate of + 6.5 m/yr. Moreover, although the general evolutionary trend is characterized by a remarkable accretion, the geomorphological analysis highlighted continuous modifications of the beaches including erosion processes. The continuous beach modifications occurred mainly between 1953 and1983 and were caused mainly by human activity in the coastal areas and inside the hydrographic basins. The beach sand composition allowed an assessment of the mainland petrological sedimentary province and its dispersal pattern of the present coastal dynamics. Petrographic analysis of beach sands identified a lithic metamorphi-clastic petrofacies, characterized by abundant fine-grained schists and phyllites sourced from the crystalline terrains of the Coastal Range front and carried by the Savuto River. The sand is also composed of a mineral assemblage comparable to that of the Amato River provenance. In terms of framework detrital constituents of QFL(quartz:feldspars:aphanitic lithic fragments) and of essential extraclasts, such as granitoid:sedimentary:metamorphic phaneritic rock fragments(Rg:Rs:Rm), sand maturity changes moderately from backshore to shoreface, suggesting that transport processes had a little effect on sand maturity. Moreover, the modal composition suggests that the Capo Suvero promontory does not obstruct longshore sand transport from the north.
