The pygmy marmoset,the smallest of the anthropoid primates,has a broad distribution in Western *** studies using molecular and morphological data have identified two distinct species separated by the Napo and Solimoes-Amazonas ***,reconciling this new biological evidence with current taxonomy,i.e.,two subspecies,Cebuella pygmaea pygmaea(Spix,1823)and Cebuella pygmaea niveiventris(Lönnberg,1940),was problematic given the uncertainty as to whether Spix’s pygmy marmoset(Cebuella pygmaea pygmaea)was collected north or south of the Napo and Solimoes-Amazonas rivers,making it unclear to which of the two newly revealed species the name pygmaea would ***,we present the first molecular data from Spix’s type specimen of Cebuella pygmaea,as well as novel mitochondrial genomes from modern pygmy marmosets sampled near the type locality(Tabatinga)on both sides of the *** these data,we can confirm the correct names of the two species identified,i.e.,*** for animals north of the Napo and Solimoes-Amazonas rivers and *** for animals south of these two *** analyses of the novel genetic data placed into the context of cytochrome b gene sequences from across the range of pygmy marmosets further led us to reevaluate the geographical distribution for the two Cebuella *** dated the split of these two species to 2.54 million years *** discuss additional,more recent,subdivisions within each lineage,as well as potential contact zones between the two species in the headwaters of these rivers.

The building industry has experienced in recent years a strong growth in demand in general and in the case of reinforced concrete buildings this increase has been more marked. This fact has also contributed to accelerate all stages of the production process of these constructions with more pronounced effects on the methodologies used in the constructive steps that influence directly the structural design of the building. Structures loaded at ever earlier ages, in which the strength and deformation properties of materials are not yet sufficiently mature. It is a variable that needs to be taken into account already in the design phase so that the concrete structure behaves within acceptable level of reliability taking into account design code recommendations for service life. To understand the importance of constructive effects and to assess its magnitude in the execution of reinforced concrete buildings, this paper presents result from nonlinear analyses using finite element method adopting an approach commonly referred as staged construction applied to a typical building found in the practice. The effects of creep and shrinkage were considered and the results obtained demonstrate that the strains due to constructive effects can, in certain cases, assume representative values which, if ignored, can lead to important pathologies in the building.

Effects of Physical Activity Levels on Fatigue Perception in Patients with Parkinson’s Disease and Neurologically Healthy Individuals

Background: Recent researches involving fatigue and Parkinson’s disease (PD) sought to verify its incidence and the impacts of fatigue on quality life of patients with PD. Despite the importance of regular physical activity practice, there are only few studies that verified the influence of the levels of physical activity on fatigue in patients with PD. Objective: The aim of this study was to compare perception of fatigue between individuals with PD and neurologically healthy individuals (control group), considering the physical activity levels;and to verify the relation between physical activity levels and fatigue dimensions for individuals with PD and control group. Methods: Eighty individuals (40 patients with PD and 40 control individuals) participated in this study. Physical activity levels were evaluated through Modified Baecke Questionnaire for Older Adults. Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory (MFI) was used in order to evaluate fatigue dimensions (general, physical and mental fatigue, reduced motivation and activity). MANOVA two-way and Pearson linear correlation test were performed to analyze the data. Results: Patients with PD presented higher levels of fatigue, in all dimensions evaluated by MFI, comparing to control individuals. There was no association between physical activity levels and perception of fatigue for patients with PD and control individuals. Conclusion: Patients with PD showed increased perception of fatigue when compared to control individuals, due to PD characteristics. In addition, the perception of fatigue’s symptom was not influenced and had no relation by the level of physical activity.

Introduction: Micro focused ultrasound (MFU) is formed by mechanical waves emitted in a focused manner, concentrating thermal energy on a certain point or region, promoting a clinical improvement in wrinkles. Objective: evaluate the effects of micro focused ultrasound on facial rejuvenation. Methodology: This is an experimental study. The sample consisted of 30 volunteers, who were evaluated before treatment, 45 and 90 days after its beginning. A single application of the MFU was performed across the facial region. The parameters used were: 10 MHz cartridge with depth of 1.5 mm, 7 MHz with depth of 3 mm, and 4 MHz with focal depth of 4.5 mm;doses ranged from 0.1 to 2.0 J, according to the sensitivity of the volunteers treated, and the application time was of approximately 90 minutes. Clinical photographic analysis and facial symmetry analysis using Dolphin Imaging software were performed, and validated questionnaires. Two volunteers were submitted to blepharoplasty surgery, and one to rhytidoplasty surgery 45 days after the application of the MFU. Samples of the treated skin were taken after the surgical procedures and submitted to histological and immunohistochemical analyses. The volunteers answered a questionnaire to assess adverse reactions and satisfaction. Results: We observed a visible clinical improvement on the images by photography, and an improvement of facial symmetry in the measurements of the paralateronasal projection (p = 0.007), left lateral mandibular (p = 0.01), and right lateral mandibular (p = 0.008). The histological analysis showed an increase in the amount of fibroblasts (p = 0.02), blood vessels (p = 0.0062) and inflammatory cells (p = 0.0036), in addition to the production of type 1 collagen. In the immunohistochemical analysis, we observed the presence of the macrophage marker IHQ: CD68, indicating phagocytosis of adipose tissue and the presence of fibrosis. End stage-renal-disease (ESRD) is associated with dyslipidemia and premature atherosclerosis. The study evaluates the effect of hemodialysis (HD) on HDL-remodeling between pre- and post-HD. Was conducted a cross-sectional study with 50 ESRD male patients, undergoing HD at Ana Neri Hospital, Salvador, Brazil. All individuals were on HD for at least 3 months, into a three sessions protocol for 3 - 4 hours per week, with a polysulfone low-flow basic-dialyzing-membrane and unfractionated-heparin. HDL Phospholipid-incorporation was measured by 14C-PL-scintillation-counting, expressed as %14C-PL/mL/hour. Paraoxonase (PON-1) activity was measured by spectrophotometry using paraoxon as substrate. Cardiovascular risk ratios and atherogenic index of plasma were calculated. Total cholesterol, HDL-C and non-HDL-C increased at post-HD on all age groups, but without triglycerides (TG) changes. TG/HDL-C decreased in 30 - 39 and 40 - 49 year (y) at post-HD (p 0.05). LDL-C/apoB increased in >60 y, after HD (p 60 (p 0.01). On the other hand, non-HDL-C/HDL-C reduced in 40 - 49 and >60 y, at post-HD (p 0.05). The linear-correlation between %14C-PL-incorporation and non-HDL-C/HDL-C was negative in 30 - 39 y, both at pre-HD (r = -0.90;p = 0.002) and post-HD (r = -0.78;p = 0.022). Linear-correlation between PON-1 and %14C-PL-incorporation was positive in >60 y, both at pre- (r = 0.63;p = 0.029) and post-HD (r = 0.65;p = 0.022). PON-1 activity increased at pre- (59 ± 30) and post-HD (73 ± 38) in 50 - 59 y (p 0.05). The %14C-PL-incorporation was reduced in >60 y (p 0.05), when compared to pre- and post-HD. ESRD patients undergoing HD shows important changes on lipid-profile, PON-1-activity, cardiac risk ratios and HDL-remodeling. These results demonstrate the influence of HD with a polysulfone low-flow basic-dialyzing-membrane and unfractionated-heparin on lipoprotein metabolism.

Functional Morphology of the Spermatogenesis of Gir Bulls

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the functional morphology of the spermatogenesis of Gir bulls, with emphasis on the testicular biometry and testicular parenchyma histomorphometry. Testicular fragments from eight Gir bulls were used. The fragments were fixed by tissue perfusion with Karnovsck’s solution, and inclusion was subsequently performed using glycol methacrylate. Histological sections of 4 μm were made and stained with a 1% toluidine blue-sodium borate solution. The mean age of the bulls was 8.0 ± 1.3 years and the mean body weight was 467.5 ± 26.7 kg. Testicular weight was 289.2 ± 30.5 g on average, and the average gonadosomatic index was 0.12% ± 0.02%. The seminiferous tubules, Leydig cells, stroma, and intertubular tissue composed 80.9% ± 1.7%, 5.4% ± 1.3%, 13.7% ± 1.1%, and 19.1% ± 1.7% of the total testicular weight, respectively. The mean length of the seminiferous tubule per gram of testicle was 17 ± 0.8 m. Losses during spermatogonia mitosis averaged 75.5% ± 3.22%, while losses were 30.6% ± 8.17% during the meiotic phase, which resulted in an average total loss of 81.49% ± 2.58% of cells during the entire process of spermatogenesis. The average daily sperm production per gram of parenchyma was 28.0 × 106 cells. It was concluded that the histometric measurements of testicular parameters in the Gir breed are within the averages reported for other zebu cattle breeds.

Production of Filler Aggregate from Waste of Bivalves Molluscs Shells

The work presents an experimental study held with shells of molluscs of the species Anomalocardia brasiliana and Tivela mactroides, commonly found in the Northeast coast of Brazil. A local community living from the collection of these animals was the motivation of the work. This community wishes to install an industry for processing these molluscs; however, as government agencies require making an appropriate allocation of discarded shells, the community needs an environmental project of final destination of waste. Thus, the expectation of the work was to obtain a material to be added to Portland cement to act as filler, and also obtain a limestone that can be used as ink, because the material is composed of 80% calcium carbonate. The shells were ground and passed the sieve 325 mesh （0.044 mm）. The material was characterized by X-ray diffraction and X-ray fluorescence. Mortars specimens were prepared with percentages： 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 30% replacement of Portland cement. Two conditions were analyzed： with shells in a raw and burned state. The obtained results confirm the filler material effect, which suggests its use as a partial replacement of cement. However, due to the short silicas＇s concentration, the pozzolanic effect was not observed.

Heficobacter pylori Biofilm Formation and Gene Expression on Abiotic Surfaces Using a Cyanobacterial Extract

The effects of a cyanobacterial extract （CE） on Helicobacter pylori biofilm formation onto hydrophobic and hydrophilic abiotic surfaces and the expression of luxS, flaA, omp18, lpxD and ureA genes associated to biofilm were studied. NCTC11638 reference strain and HP796, a resistant clinical isolate, were grown in Mueller-Hinton broth supplemented with 5% fetal calf serum （FCS） or 1% CE. The ability to form biofilm, viability, morphological changes and gene expression of adhered H. pylori cells were determined. The strains were able to form biofilm on both surfaces with the nutritional supplements analyzed. H. pylori conserved a characteristic bacillary morphology and viability with CE. Cells attachment was higher with CE than FCS regardless of strains and surfaces. The most remarkable increase in gene expression was observed with the ompl8 gene using the CE supplement, indicating the important participation of outer membrane proteins in biofilm establishment. The clinical isolate showed similar and even greater gene expression than the reference strain. The results obtained indicated that the nutrients provided by CE favored biofilm formation with retained pathogenicity that under certain conditions can occur in natural aquatic environments.

Background: To investigate the effects of the association of semi-ablative fractional radiofrequency (RFF) with growth factors in stretch marks. Methods: This is a randomized controlled trial. The sample consisted of 28 female patients with complaints of gluteus or abdomen striae and divided into 2 equitable groups, named G1 (semi-ablative RFF without active principle association) and G2 (semi-ablative RFF with active principle association), being subdivided into G-1A and G-2A (abdominal applications) and G-1B and G-2B (gluteus applications). A photographic and histological analysis was performed using questionnaires about inflammation, presence of adverse effects and satisfaction of volunteers. Photographic analysis showed a reduction in the amount of striae alba in all groups. Results: The histological analysis showed an increase in fibroblast activity, collagen type I, and blood vessels, especially in the groups that associated the RFF with the active principle. In the inflammation analysis, the groups that performed intervention with active ingredients showed lower inflammatory signal. All groups had a reasonable level of satisfaction after the interventions;however, the group that used active ingredients reported greater results. Conclusion: The association of semi ablative RFF with growth factors showed a reduction in clinical inflammatory signs, mainly in the first 15 days, as well as higher collagen production, verified in 30 days, with satisfactory clinical results in all groups.
