We report the charge-changing cross sections(σ_(cc))of.24 p-shell nuclides on both hydrogen and carbon at about 900A MeV,of.which^(8,9)Li,^(10–12)Be,^(10,14,15)B,^(14,15,17–22)N and^(16)O on hydrogen and^(8,9)Li on carbon are f.r the f.rst *** f.om the data set,we f.und a new and robust relationship between the scaling f.ctor of.the Glauber model calculations and the separation energies of.the nuclei of.interest on both *** allows us to deduce proton radii(R_p)f.r the f.rst time f.om the cross sections on *** identical R_p values are deduced f.om both target data f.r the neutron-rich carbon isotopes;however,the R_p f.om the hydrogen target is systematically smaller in the neutron-rich nitrogen *** calls f.r f.rther experimental and theoretical investigations.

Remarkable recent demonstrations of.ultra-low-loss inhibited-coupling(1C)hollow-core photonic-crystal f.bres(HCPCf.)established them as serious candidates f.r next-generation long-haul f.bre optics systems.A hindrance to this prospect and also to short-haul applications such as micromachining,where stable and high-quality beam delivery is needed,is the dif.iculty in designing and f.bricating an IC-guiding f.bre that combines ultra-low loss,truly robust single-modeness,and polarisation-maintaining *** design solutions proposed to date require a trade-of. between low loss and truly ***,we propose a novel IC-HCPCf.f.r achieving low-loss and ef.ective single-mode *** f.bre is endowed with a hybrid cladding composed of.a Kagome-tubular lattice(HKT).This new concept of.a microstructured cladding allows us to signif.cantly reduce the conf.nement loss and,at the same time,preserve truly robust single-mode *** results show an HKT-IC-HCPCf.with a minimum loss of.1.6dB/km at 1050 nm and a higher-order mode extinction ratio as high as 47.0 dB f.r a 10 m long *** robustness of.the f.bre single-modeness is tested by moving the f.bre and varying the coupling *** design proposed herein opens a new route f.r the development of.HCPCf. that combine robust ultra-low-loss transmission and single-mode beam delivery and provides new insight into IC guidance.

While lif.style modif.cations are currently used as f.rstline treatment f.r subjects with gastroesophageal ref.ux disease (GERD), the pathogenetic role of.lif.style f.ctors and consequently, the ef.icacy of.lif.style measures is controversial. Our aim was to systematically review the pathogenetic link between overweight/ obesity, dietary habits, physical activity and GERD, and the benef.cial ef.ect of.specif.c recommended changes, by means of.the available literature f.om the 1999 to the present. Obesity, in particular, abdominal obesity, plays a key role in determining GERD symptoms and complications through mechanical and metabolic ef.ects. Controlled weight loss (by diet or surgery) is ef.ective in improving GERD symptoms. No def.nitive data exist regarding the role of.diet and, in particular, of.specif.c f.ods or drinks, in inf.uencing GERD clinical manif.stations. Moderate physical activity seems to be benef.cial f.r GERD, while vigorous activity may be dangerous in predisposed individuals. In conclusion, being obese/overweight and GERD-specif.c symptoms and endoscopic f.atures are related, and weight loss signif.cantly improves GERD clinical-endoscopic manif.stations. The role of.dietary behavior, mainly in terms of.specif.c dietary components, remains controversial. Mild routine physical activity in association with diet modif.cations, i.e. a diet rich in f.ber and low in f.t, is advisable in preventing ref.ux symptoms.

Aquatic biodiversity is being lost at an unprecedented rate. One f.ctor driving this loss is increased turbidity, an en- vironmental stressor that can impose behavioral, morphological, and/or physiological costs on f.shes. Here we describe the be- havioral response of.a widespread Af.ican cichlid, Pseudocrenilabrus multicolor victoriae, to turbidity. We used a split-brood rearing design to test if.f. of.spring reared in turbid water, originating f.om river （turbid） and swamp （clear） populations, behave dif.erently than f.ll-sibs reared in clear water. We examined two f.cets of.behavior：（1） behaviors of.f.sh in f.ll sib groups, in- eluding activity level and social dynamics collected during the rearing period; and （2） male aggressive behavior directed at poten- tial male competitors af.er f.sh had reached maturity; this was done in an experimental set-up independent of.the rearing aquaria. Regardless of.population of.origin, f.sh reared in turbid water were marginally less active and perf.rmed f.wer social behaviors than those reared in clear water. On the other hand, when tested against a competitor in turbid water, males perf.rmed more ag- gressive behaviors, regardless of.population of.origin or rearing environment, Our results suggest a plastic behavioral response to turbidity that may allow P. multicolor to persist over a range of.turbidity levels in nature by decreasing activity and general social behaviors and intensif.ing reproductive behaviors to ensure reproductive success [Current Zoology 58 （1）： 146-157, 2012].

In social insects,it has been suggested that reproduction and the production of.particular f.rtilitylinked cuticular hydrocarbons(CHC)may be under shared juvenile hormone(JH)control,and this could have been key in predisposing such cues to later evolve into f.ll-f.edged queen pheromone ***,to date,only f.w studies have experimentally tested this“hormonal pleiotropy”***,we f.rmally test this hypothesis using data f.om f.ur species of.Polistine wasps,Polistes dominula,Polistes satan,Mischocyttarus metathoracicus,and Mischocyttarus cassununga,and experimental treatments with JH using the JH analogue methoprene and the anti-JH *** line with reproduction being under JH control,our results show that across these f.ur species,precocene signif.cantly decreased ovary development when compared with both the acetone solvent-only control and the methoprene *** with the hormonal pleiotropy hypothesis,these ef.ects on reproduction were f.rther matched by subtle shif.s in the CHC prof.les,with univariate analyses showing that in *** and *** the abundance of.particular linear alkanes and mono-methylated alkanes were af.ected by ovary development and our hormonal *** results indicate that in primitively eusocial wasps,and particularly in Polistes,reproduction and the production of.some CHC cues are under joint JH *** suggest that pleiotropic links between reproduction and the production of.such hydrocarbon cues have been key enablers f.r the origin of.true f.rtility and queen signals in more derived,advanced eusocial insects.

Objective: To evaluate the prof.le of.the Brazilianvaginal ring user, reasons f.r choosing it, satisf.ction, menstrual pattern, tolerability, ef.icacy, side ef.ects and reasons f.r discontinuation. Methods: We reviewed the f.les of.148 users who attended the Hospital de Jacarepaguáand private clinics, between 2005 and 2011, in a total of.3107 cycles. Kaplan-Meier survival curves and regression models were used in statistical analysis. Results: The prof.le was: single, nulligravida, 30 years (mean) and with university education. The previous contraception used was mostly the oral hormonal contraception (75.7%). Women chose the ring f.r: practicality (32.4%), f.rgetting the pill (32.4%) and irregular vaginal bleeding (13.5%). The satisf.ction degree was 80.5% (119). There were good cycle control and no pregnancies. Thirty-eight patients discontinued the use (25.7%). The main reasons were wish f.r pregnancy (6%), spotting (3.4%) and increased vaginal discharge (2.7%). At the end of.the f.rst year, use of.the greatest reduction of.continuity probability was observed (19.3%). Women with side ef.ects were 68% less likely to be satisf.ed with the method than those without (p-value Conclusion: Nuvaring®is an excellent contraceptiveoption due to its sef.icacy, cycle control, tolerability, practicality and saf.ty.

Boson sampling is a computational problem that has recently been proposed as a candidate to obtain an unequivocal quantum computational *** problem consists in sampling f.om the output distribution of.indistinguishable bosons in a linear *** is strong evidence that such an experiment is hard to classically simulate,but it is naturally solved by dedicated photonic quantum hardware,comprising single photons,linear evolution,and *** prospect has stimulated much ef.ort resulting in the experimental implementation of.progressively larger *** review recent advances in photonic boson sampling,describing both the technological improvements achieved and the f.ture *** also discuss recent proposals and implementations of.variants of.the original problem,theoretical issues occurring when imperf.ctions are considered,and advances in the development of.suitable techniques f.r validation of.boson sampling *** conclude by discussing the f.ture application of.photonic boson sampling devices beyond the original theoretical scope.

The aim of.this study was to characterize the testicular isof.rm of.angio-tensin-converting enzyme (tACE) bef.re and af.er semen cryopreservation, and in the acrosome reaction of.sperm f.om Nelore bulls in vitro. Ejaculates of.10 sexually mature Nelore bulls were used. Af.er semen was collected, 1.0 mL of.the ejaculate was used f.r the analysis and the rest was subjected to cryopreservation. f.esh semen bef.re f.eezing, and f.ozen/thawed semen were centrif.ged twice and the pellet was resuspended intyrode’s albumin lactate pyruvate (TALP). Thereaf.er, 100 μL aliquots containing 100 × 106 spermatozoa were prepared. Aliquots of.samples were used f.r western blot analysis, subjected to capacitation, and thereaf.er, acrosome reaction assays were perf.rmed in vitro. With the help of.an anti-ACE monoclonal antibody, a 100 kDa protein band was identif.ed in the spermatozoa of.Nelore bulls. Cryopreservation reduced the intensity of.the protein bands obtained by western blot assay to less than half.of.that observed prior to f.eezing (P P f.ACE in these processes. It is concluded that tACE can be f.und in the spermatozoa of.Nelore bulls, and cryopreservation process decreases the intensity of.bands of.this enzyme;and that the inactivation of.tACE reduces the capacity of.spermatozoa to undergo the acrosome reaction.

Background： Adaptive response includes a variety of.physiological modif.cations to f.ce changes in external or internal conditions and adapt to a new situation. The acute phase proteins（APPs） are reactants synthesized against environmental stimuli like stress, inf.ction, ***： To delineate the dif.erences in molecular constituents of.adaptive response to the environment we perf.rmed the whole-blood transcriptome analysis in Italian Holstein（IH） and Italian Simmental（IS） breeds. f.r this, 663 IH and IS cows f.om six commercial f.rms were clustered according to the blood level of.APPs. Ten extreme individuals（f.ve APP＋ and APP-variants） f.om each f.rm were selected f.r the RNA-seq using the Illumina sequencing technology. Dif.erentially expressed（DE） genes were analyzed using dynamic impact approach（DIA）and DAVID annotation clustering. Milk production data were statistically elaborated to assess the association of.APP＋ and APP-gene expression patterns with variations in milk ***： The overall de novo assembly of.cDNA sequence data generated 13,665 genes expressed in bovine blood cells. Comparative genomic analysis revealed 1,152 DE genes in the comparison of.all APP＋ vs. all APP-variants; 531 and 217 DE genes specif.c f.r IH and IS comparison respectively. In all comparisons overexpressed genes were more represented than underexpressed ones. DAVID analysis revealed 369 DE genes across breeds, 173 and 73 DE genes in IH and IS comparison respectively. Among the most impacted pathways f.r both breeds were vitamin B6 metabolism, f.late biosynthesis, nitrogen metabolism and linoleic acid ***： Both DIA and DAVID approaches produced a high number of.signif.cantly impacted genes and pathways with a narrow connection to adaptive response in cows with high level of.blood APPs.
