dyslipidemia may influence enzymes and transfer proteins needed to the lipoprotein particle remodeling. Calculated indices and evaluation of lipoprotein particle size have widely been used to predict cardiovascular risk. The aim of this study was to evaluate HdL particle size and LdL particle size estimate based on TG/HdL-C as well as apoB/apoA-I ratio as possible marker and atherogenic indices, respectively, of cardiovascular disease risk in the presence of dyslipidemia. We evaluated 100 individuals of both gender, without treatment with lipid-lowering drugs, 27 normolipidemic and 73 dyslipidemic, such as isolated hypercholesterolemia (n = 16), isolated hypertriglyceridemia (n = 17), low HdL-C (n = 26) and mixed dyslipidemia (n = 14). The HdL particle size did not differ between groups. The TG/HdL-C ratio was higher in groups with isolated hypertriglyceridemia (4.2 ± 1.5), low HdL-C (5.2 ± 3.1) and mixed dyslipidemia (5.3 ± 1.6). The apoB/apoA-I ratio was increased in all groups of dyslipidemia (apoB/apoA-I > 0.5) when compared to normolipidemic (apoB/apoA-I = 0.5, p dL-C ratio and the apoB/apoA-I ratio in low HdL-C group (r = 0.507, p = 0.008, Spearman). The results suggest that the evaluations of lipoproteins particles remodeling markers and the use of calculated indices may contribute to the evaluation of cardiovascular disease risk when dyslipidemia take place.

In modeling fluidized bed gasification experiments,equilibrium and CFd models are valuable *** existence of multi-dimensional effects inside the reactor vessel due to the kinetics of the process and the fluid dynamics phenomena could result in deviation from the zero-dimensional *** models integrating kinetics and hydrodynamics are being developed by using a computer fluid dynamics(CFd)*** objective of this investigation is to assess and compare the adequacy of zero-dimensional and CFd approaches in modeling fluidized bed gasification regarding a semi-industrial scale(numerical results are validated under experimental runs).Results show that the zero-dimensional model based on the approach of dual stage equilibrium performs reasonably well in adequately predicting the product gas composition at different operating conditions and for different feedstocks,although with quantitative ***,the discrepancy depends on the oxygen content of the oxidation agent and on the steam-to biomass ratio decreasing when these parameters *** models provide deeper information being able to estimate the syngas composition or other operating parameter at any point of space and *** of some quantitative discrepancy,the zero-dimensional modeling approach is deemed satisfactory from the viewpoint of the determining design conditions simulation.

Neutropenic colitis is a severe condition usually affecting immunocompromised patients. Its exact pathogenesis is not completely understood. The main elements in disease onset appear to be intestinal mucosal injury together with neutropenia and the weakened immune system of the afflicted patients. These initial conditions lead to intestinal edema, engorged vessels, and a disrupted mucosal surface, which becomes more vulnerable to bacterial intramural invasion. Chemotherapeutic agents can cause direct mucosal injury (mucositis) or can predispose to distension and necrosis, thereby altering intestinal motility. This article aims to review current concepts regarding neutropenic colitis’ pathogenesis, diagnosis, and management.

A refined Frequency domain decomposition tool for structural modal monitoring in earthquake engineering

Output-only structural identification is developed by a refined Frequency domain decomposition（rFdd） approach, towards assessing current modal properties of heavy-damped buildings（in terms of identification challenge）, under strong ground motions. Structural responses from earthquake excitations are taken as input signals for the identification algorithm. A new dedicated computational procedure, based on coupled Chebyshev Type Ⅱ bandpass filters, is outlined for the effective estimation of natural frequencies, mode shapes and modal damping ratios. The identification technique is also coupled with a Gabor Wavelet Transform, resulting in an effective and self-contained time-frequency analysis framework. Simulated response signals generated by shear-type frames（with variable structural features） are used as a necessary validation condition. In this context use is made of a complete set of seismic records taken from the FEMA P695 database, i.e. all 44 ＂Far-Field＂（22 NS, 22 WE） earthquake signals. The modal estimates are statistically compared to their target values, proving the accuracy of the developed algorithm in providing prompt and accurate estimates of all current strong ground motion modal parameters. At this stage, such analysis tool may be employed for convenient application in the realm of Earthquake Engineering, towards potential Structural Health Monitoring and damage detection purposes.

Variable-order fracture mechanics and its application to dynamic fracture

This study presents the formulation,the numerical solution,and the validation of a theoretical framework based on the concept of variable-order mechanics and capable of modeling dynamic fracture in brittle and quasi-brittle *** specifically,the reformulation of the elastodynamic problem via variable and fractional-order operators enables a unique and extremely powerful approach to model nucleation and propagation of cracks in solids under dynamic *** resulting dynamic fracture formulation is fully evolutionary,hence enabling the analysis of complex crack patterns without requiring any a priori assumption on the damage location and the growth path,and without using any algorithm to numerically track the evolving crack *** evolutionary nature of the variable-order formalism also prevents the need for additional partial differential equations to predict the evolution of the damage field,hence suggesting a conspicuous reduction in complexity and computational ***,the variable-order formulation is naturally capable of capturing extremely detailed features characteristic of dynamic crack propagation such as crack surface roughening as well as single and multiple *** accuracy and robustness of the proposed variableorder formulation are validated by comparing the results of direct numerical simulations with experimental data of typical benchmark problems available in the literature.

CFd Study of Ejector Flow Behavior in a Blast Furnace Gas Galvanizing Plant

In recent years, there has been a growing interest toward Blast Furnace Gas （BFG） as a low-grade energy source for industrial furnaces. This paper considers the revamping of a galvanic plant furnace converted to BFG from natural gas. In the design of the new system, the ejector on the exhaust line is a critical component. This paper studies the flow behavior of the ejector using a Computational Fluid dynamics （CFd） analysis. The CFd model is based on a 3d representation of the ejector, using air and exhaust gases as working fluids. This paper is divided in three parts. In the first part, the galvanic plant used as case study is presented and discussed, in the second part the CFd approach is outlined, and in the third part the CFd approach is validated using experimental data and the numerical results are presented and discussed. different Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes （RANS） turbulence models （k-to SST and k-e Realizable） are evaluated in terms of convergence capability and accuracy in predicting the pressure drop along the ejector. Suggestions for future optimization of the system are also provided.

Localized-states quantum confinement induced by roughness in CdMnTe/CdTe heterostructures grown on Si(111) substrates

This work shows that despite a lattice mismatch of almost 20%, CdMnTe/CdTe/CdMnTe heterostructures grown directly on Si(111) have surprisingly good optical emission properties. The investigated structures were grown by molecular beam epitaxy and characterized by scanning transmission electron microscopy, macro-and micro-photoluminescence. Low temperature macro-photoluminescence experiments indicate three emission bands which depend on the CdTe layer thickness and have different confinement characteristics. Temperature measurements reveal that the lower energy emission band (at 1.48 eV)is associated to defects and bound exciton states, while the main emission at 1.61 eV has a weak 2d character and the higher energy one at 1.71 eV has a well-defined (zero-dimensional, 0d) 0d nature. Micro-photoluminescence measurements show the existence of sharp and strongly circularly polarized (up to 40%) emission lines which can be related to the presence of Mn in the heterostructure. This result opens the possibility of producing photon sources with the typical spin control of the diluted magnetic semiconductors using the low-cost silicon technology.

The Eu(Ⅲ)nitrate complex of the meso-N,N’-bis(2-pyridylmethylene)-1,2-(R,S)-cyclohexanediamine ligand was synthesized and characterized by single crystal and powder X-ray *** crystal lattice of the complex is capable of absorbing and desorbing selectively acetonitrile molecules,at 293 K upon an acetonitrile vapor pressure of^0.1×10^5 *** process,which is partially reversible,can be easily followed by both powder X-ray diffraction(P-XRd)and Eu(III)luminescence *** acetonitrile molecule,located in the outer coordination sphere of the metal ion,does not affect the radiative transition probability of 5 d0 level of Eu(Ⅲ)and also it does not activate further non-radiative channels from this *** the other hand,this molecule is capable of affecting the energy position and intensities of the crystal field components of the 5 d0→7 F2 *** complex in solid form can be considered a promising material for the optical sensing of acetonitrile vapors.
