Glyphosate is a broad-spectrum herbicide originally introduced to the market in 1974 by the agrochemical company Monsanto. More than 40 years down the line, glyphosate has become one of the most economically meaningful herbicides, with a global use of more than 1.8 million pounds in 2014 (Benbrook, 2016). In non resistant plants, glyphosate is widely believed to exert its herbicidal effect via inhibition of the 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase, an enzyme of the shikimate pathway required for the biosynthesis of aromatic amino acids in plants and most microorganisms such as fungi, bacteria and some protozoans.

Peripheral nerve injury causes a partial or total loss of motor and sensory functions as a result of axonal disruption and subsequent axonal disintegration as well as denervation distal from the point of injury. Although peripheral nerves are, in contrast to the central nervous system, able to regenerate and reinnervate, functionality is not always restored completely due to insufficient reinnervation or remyelination, and injury may result in sequelae such as neuropathic pain. The degenerative processes following peripheral nerve injury are generally referred to as Wallerian degeneration （Gaudet et al., 2011）.

Dear editor,Dysregulated inflammatory responses primarily account for damage to the central nervous system,however,neurodegenerative processes likely contribute to the pathophysiology of progressive forms of multiple sclerosis(MS).These pathophysiological aspects include axonal energy depletion and impaired remyelination capacity(Levin et al.,2014).The clinical efficacy of most disease-modifying therapies in MS to date has been achieved by targeting functions of the adaptive immune system(Cree et al.,2019;szepanowski et al.,2021).
