Prognostic impact of body mass index on in-hospital bleeding complications after ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction

BACKGrOUND ST-elevation myocardial infarction(STEmI)remains a major cause of mortality despite early revascularization and optimal medical *** individual management by considering patients’specificities may help in improving post-STEmI *** To evaluate whether in-hospital bleeding complications may be involved in post STEmI prognosis among overweight *** We prospectively included 2070 patients with a STEmI between January 2005 and december 2012 in the French observational cohort,“registre d’Infarctus maine-Anjou”.Bleeding Academic research Consortium(BArC)in-hospital bleeding complications were *** Of 705 patients(35.3%)were presented as being of normal weight,defined as a body mass index(BmI)m^2,877(43.9%)had a BmI between 25 and 30 kg/m^2and 416(20.8%)had a BmI≥30 kg/m^***-year cardiovascular mortality was lower for BmI≥25 kg/m^2(5.3%and 7.1%)patients than for normal weight patients(10.8%)(P=0.001).We found an interaction between the effect of BArC 3 on mortality and BmI *** a BArC 3 was related to a higher 1-year mortality in general(Hr:2.58,95%CI:1.44-4.64,P≤0.001),prognosis was even worse in normal weight patients(Hr:2.97,95%CI:1.61-5.5,Pr patients with a BmI≥25 kg/m^2(Hr:1.94,95%CI:1.02-3.69,P=0.041).CONCLUSION Normal weight patients presented higher rates of in-hospital bleeding complications and lower survival after a *** mortality might be due to greater vulnerability to bleeding amongst normal weight patients.

An isothermal operation is implemented by em.loying a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) for simulating the thermal decomposition behavior of 58μm pine sawdust in air *** independent parallel reaction model is adopted in this study to describe the thermal decomposition *** Weibull distribution function is used to record and analyze the weight loss during isothermal decomposition at different temperatures(500,600,700,and 800°C).The total weight loss of the pine sawdust is assumed as a linear combination of individual weight loss from three components,including the char and two volatile *** plot of the thermal decomposition rate curve leads to kinetic parameters such as the reaction rate constants and the reaction *** results show that the Weibull distribution function successfully represents decomposition curves of three components,and fits the experimental data very ***,this study provides a simple way to evaluate the decomposition rate of biomass combustion in a real combustor.

Hearing loss among Grain millers in the Informal Sector in Benin

Introduction: Noise-induced hearing loss is a preventable health problem worldwide. However, it continues to affect workers especially in the informal sector, due to the lack of medical and environmental monitoring. In Benin, millers are highly exposed. The objective of the study was to assess the hearing health situation of grain millers in the Dantokpa market in 2020. methods: This was a cross-sectional study that included by exhaustive recruitment 57 millers. The data were collected using a standardized questionnaire followed by blood pressure measurements, noise levels and the performance of audiometries. descriptive and univariate analysis was performed. results: The sample consisted only of men. The median age was 25 years with extremes of 18 and 50 years. Noise levels at the workstation ≥ 85 dB (A) were obtained for 94.74% of the workers. No worker was wearing hearing protection equipment. The prevalence of hearing loss was 87.72% (95% CI = [76.32%;94.92%]) and that of occupational deafness was 29.82% (95% CI = [18.43% - 43.40%]) which was associated with age over 28 and high blood pressure. An awareness campaign with donation of hearing pads was carried out. Conclusion: Hearing loss is important among millers who do not benefit from any supervision because they are in the informal sector. A restructuring of this sector is necessary for the hearing health of workers.

Survival outcomes of liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with normal, high and very high preoperative alpha-fetoprotein levels

AIm To investigate the impact of alpha-fetoprotein(AFP) on long-term recurrence rate and overall survival and we also aimed to define the level of AFP leading to a higher risk of disease recurrence and affecting patient *** Data of adult patients who received liver transplant(LT) for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) at our hospital from January 2000 to december 2013 were reviewed. reviewed data included demographic characteristics, preoperative AFP level, operative details, follow-up details, and survival outcomes. Patients were mostly listed for LT based on milan or UCSF criteria. For the purpose of this study, normal AFP level was defined as AFP value m L, high AFP level was defined as AFP value ≥ 10 to m L, and very highAFP level was defined as AFP ≥ 400 ng/m L. The patients were divided into these 3 groups accordingly. Survival rates were plotted as Kaplan-meier curves and compared by log-rank analysis. Continuous variables were expressed as median(interquartile range). Categorical variables were compared by Spearman's test. Discriminative analysis was used to define the lowest value of AFP that could affect the overall survival in study population. Statistical significance was defined by a P value of derwent LT for HCC in the study period. Eight-four of them received deceaseddonor LT and 166 had living-donor LT. The patients were divided into 3 groups: Group A, AFP m L(n = 83); Group B, AFP ≥ 10 to m L(n = 131); Group C, AFP ≥ 400 ng/m L(n = 36). The commonest etiology was hepatitis-B-related cirrhosis. The model for End-stage Liver Disease scores in these groups were similar(median, 13 vs 13 vs 12; P = 0.745). The time to operation in Group A was longer(median, 94 vs 31 vs 35 d; P = 0.001). Heteroclinic and Homoclinic Connections between the Sun-Earth Triangular Points and Quasi-Satellite Orbits for Solar Observations

Investigation of new orbit geometries exhibits a very attractive behavior for a spacecraft to monitor space weather coming from the Sun. Several orbit transfer mechanisms are analyzed as potential alternatives to monitor solar activity such as a sub-solar orbit or quasi-satellite orbit and short and long heteroclinic and homoclinic connections between the triangular points L4 and L5 and the collinear point L3 of the CrTBP （circular restricted three-body problem） in the Sun-Earth system. These trajectories could serve as channels through where material can be transported from L5 to L3 by performing small maneuvers at the departure of the Trojan orbit. The size of these maneuvers at L5 is between 299 m/s and 730 m/s depending on the transfer time of the trajectory and does not need any deterministic maneuvers at L3. Our results suggest that material may also be transported from the Trojan orbits to quasi-satellite orbits or even displaced quasi-satellite orbits.

Spectrum of NSD1 gene mutations in southern Chinese patients with Sotos syndrome

Background Sotos syndrome is an overgrowth syndrome with characteristic facial gestalt and mental retardation of variable severity. Haploinsufficiency of the NSD 1 gene has been implicated as the major cause of Sotos syndrome, with a predominance of microdeletions reported in Japanese patients. This study was conducted to investigate into the spectrum of NSD1 gene mutations in southern Chinese patients with Sotos syndrome. methods Thirty-six Chinese patients with Sotos syndrome and two patients with Weaver syndrome were subject to molecular testing. results NSD1 gene mutations were detected in 26 （72%） Sotos patients. microdeletion was found in only 3 patients, while the other 23 had point mutations （6 frameshift, 8 nonsense, 2 spice site, and 7 missense）. Of these, 19 mutations were never reported. NSD1 gene mutations were not found in the two patients with Weaver syndrome. Conclusions most cases of Sotos syndrome are caused by NSD1 gene defects, but the spectrum of mutations is different from that of Japanese patients. Genotype-phenotype correlation showed that patients with microdeletions might be more prone to congenital heart disease but less likely to have somatic overgrowth. The two patients with Weaver syndrome were not found to have NSD1 gene mutations, but the number was too small for any conclusion to be drawn.

The family Alaudidae,larks,comprises 93-100 species(depending on taxonomy)that are widely distributed across Africa and Eurasia,with single species extending their ranges to North and northernmost South America and Australia.A decade-old molecular phylogeny,comprising~80%of the species,revealed multiple cases of parallel evolution and large variation in rates of morphological evolution,which had misled taxonomists into creating many non-monophyletic ***,we reconstruct the phylogeny of the larks,using a dataset covering one mitochondrial and 16 nuclear loci and comprising all except one of the currently recognised species as well as several recently proposed new species(in total 133 taxa;not all loci available for all species).We provide additional support using genome-wide markers to infer a genus-level phylogeny based on near-complete generic sampling(in total 51 samples of 44 taxa across 40 species).Our results confirm the previous findings of rampant morphological convergence and divergence,and reveal new cases of paraphyletic *** propose a new subfamily classification,and also that the genus mirafra is divided into four genera to produce a more balanced generic classification of the *** study supports recently proposed species splits as well as some recent lumps,while also questioning some of the *** comprehensive phylogeny will form an important basis for future studies,such as comparative studies of lark natural history,ecology,evolution and conservation.

The CaO-P_(2)O_(5)-SiO_(2)-mgO system presents several compounds used as biomaterials such as hydroxyapatite(HA),tricalcium phosphate(TCP)and TCP with magnesium substituting partial calcium(TCmP).Theβ-TCmP phase with whitlockite structure has interesting biological features and mechanical properties,meeting the requirements of a bioactive material for bone *** this work,the production of mg-doped TCP,β-TCmP,has been investigated by crystallization from a glass composed of 52.75 wt%3CaO·P_(2)O_(5),30 wt%SiO_(2)and 17.25 wt%mgO(i.e.,31.7 mol%CaO,10.6 mol%P_(2)O_(5),26.6 mol%mgO and 31.1 mol%SiO_(2))using heat treatments between 775℃and 1100℃for up to 8 *** devitrification process of the glass has been accompanied by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),high-resolution X-ray diffraction(HrXrD),relative density and bending strength *** characterization by HrXrD and DSC revealed the occurrence of whitlockite soon after the bulk glass preparation,a transient non-cataloged silicate between 800℃and 1100℃,and the formation of diopside in samples treated at 1100℃as crystalline *** overall crystalline fraction varied from 26%to 70%depending on the heat ***,contraction of the a-axis lattice parameter and expansion of the c-axis lattice parameter of the whitlockite structure have been observed during the heat treatments,which were attributed to theβ-TCmP formation with the partial substitution of Ca^(2+)by mg^(2+).relative densities near 99%and 97%for the glass and glass-ceramics respectively indicated a discrete reduction as a function of the devitrification *** strengths of 70 mPa and 120 mPa were determined for the glass and glass-ceramic material crystallized at 975℃for 4 h,respectively.

Background:Zebrafish models for neurovascular diseases offer new methods for elucidation of molecular pathways to tissue *** fertilization and high fecundity provide opportunities for transgenics and other forms of genetic manipulation that are more accessible than offered by mammalian models of ***,behavioral analyses of zebrafish allow for connection of molecular pathways to organismal outputs such as locomotion,learning,and ***,a zebrafish model of hypoxia-ischemia has been slow to catch on,possibly due to hypoxia exposure protocols that are challenging to reproduce and result in high ***:In this study,we have introduced a predictable and simple method of hypoxia induction,the addition of sodium sulfite to aquarium *** effects of this treatment on zebrafish locomotion were compared to those of zebrafish exposed to hypoxia induced by nitrogen gas bubbling,a method used in previous ***:We found that hypoxia induced by sodium sulfite significantly impaired locomotion in the hours following treatment,and its effects did not differ from those caused by nitrogen gas ***:These results indicate that hypoxia by sodium sulfite represents an effective and easily reproducible method for the study of hypoxia-ischemia in zebrafish.
