Mitochondrial proteomic analysis of ecdysterone protection against oxidative damage in human lens epithelial cells

AIM: To investigate the protective effects of the natural medicinal monomer ecdysterone(ECR) with estrogenic activity against oxidative damage in human lens epithelial cells B3(HLE-B3) caused by hydrogen peroxide 21(H2 O2) and to pursue the possible mitochondrial proteomic regularity of the protective effects. · METHODS: HLE-B3 cells were treated with H2O2(300μmol/L),β-estuarial(E2; 10-8mol/L) and H2 O2,ECR(10-6mol/L) and H2 O2,or left untreated. Altered expression of all mitochondrial proteins was analyzed by protein array and surface-enhanced laser desorption ionization time of flight mass spectrometry(SELDI-TOF-MS). The mass/charge(M/Z) ratios of each peak were tested by the Kruskal-Wallis rank sum test,and the protein peak value of the M/Z ratio for each treatment by pair comparison was analyzed with the Nemenyi test. ·RESULTS: H2O2 up-regulated expression of two protein spots(with M/Z of 6 532 and 6 809). When E2 mitigated the oxidative damage,the expression of one protein spot(M/Z 6 532) was down-regulated. In contrast,ECR downregulated both of protein spots(M/Z 6 532 and 6 809). · CONCLUSION: ECR could effectively inhibite H2O2 induced oxidative damage in HLE-B3 cells. The protein spot at M/Z of 6 532 might be the target spot of ECR against oxidative damage induced by H2 O2.

Strong Edge Coloring of Outerplane Graphs with Independent Crossings

Enhanced Ion-Selective Diffusion Achieved by Supramolecular Interaction for High Thermovoltage and Thermal Stability

Thermoelectric（TE） generators capable of converting thermal energy into applicable electricity have gained great popularity among emerging energy conversion ***-based ionic thermoelectric（i-TE）materials are promising candidates for energy conversion systems because of their wide sources,innocuity,and low manufacturing ***,common physically crosslinked biopolymer gels induced by single hydrogen bonding or hydrophobic interaction suffer from low differential thermal voltage and poor thermodynamic ***,we develop a novel i-TE gel with supramolecular structures through multiple noncovalent interactions between ionic liquids（ILs） and gelatin molecular *** thermopower and thermoelectric power factor of the ionic gels are as high as 2.83 mV K-1and 18.33 μW m-1K-2,*** quasi-solid-state gelatin-[EMIM]DCA i-TE cells achieve ultrahigh 2 h output energy density(E2h=9.9 mJ m-2) under an optimal temperature ***,the remarkable stability of the supramolecular structure provides the i-TE hydrogels with a thermal stability of up to 80 ℃.It breaks the limitation that biopolymer-based i-TE gels can only be applied in the low temperature range and enables biopolymer-based i-TE materials to pursue better performance in a higher temperature range.

Sub-Seasonal Predictability of the Northeast China Cold Vortex in BCC and ECMWF S2S Model Forecasts for 2006-2021

As an important atmospheric circulation system in the mid-high latitudes of East Asia,the Northeast China cold vortex(NCCV)substantially influences weather and climate in this *** far,systematic assessment on the performance of numerical prediction of the NCCVs has not been carried *** on the Beijing Climate Centre(BCC)and the ECMWF model hindcast and forecast data that participated in the Sub-seasonal to Seasonal(S2S)Prediction Project,this study systematically examines the performance of both models in simulating and forecasting the NCCVs at the sub-seasonal *** results demonstrate that the two models can effectively capture the seasonal variations in the intensity,active days,and spatial distribution of NCCVs;however,the duration of NCCVs is shorter and the intensity is weaker in the models than in the *** analysis shows that the differences in the intensity and location of the East Asian subtropical westerly jet and the wave train pattern from North Atlantic to East Asia may be responsible for the deficient simulation of NCCV events in the S2S ***,in the deterministic forecasts,BCC and ECMWF provide skillful prediction on the anomalous numbers of NCCV days and intensity at a lead time of 4-5(5-6)pentads,and the skill limit of the ensemble mean is 1-2 pentads longer than that of individual *** the probabilistic forecasts of daily NCCV activities,BCC and ECMWF exhibit a forecasting skill of approximately 7 and 11 days,respectively;both models show seasonal dependency in the simulation performance and forecast skills of NCCV events,with better performance in winter than in *** results from this study provide helpful references for further improvement of the S2S prediction of NCCVs.

A Novel Quantization and Model Compression Approach for Hardware Accelerators in Edge Computing

Massive computational complexity and memory requirement of artificial intelligence models impede their deploy-ability on edge computing devices of the Internet of Things(IoT).While Power-of-Two(PoT)quantization is pro-posed to improve the efficiency for edge inference of Deep Neural Networks(DNNs),existing PoT schemes require a huge amount of bit-wise manipulation and have large memory overhead,and their efficiency is bounded by the bottleneck of computation latency and memory *** tackle this challenge,we present an efficient inference approach on the basis of PoT quantization and model *** integer-only scalar PoT quantization(IOS-PoT)is designed jointly with a distribution loss regularizer,wherein the regularizer minimizes quantization errors and training ***,two-stage model compression is developed to effectively reduce memory requirement,and alleviate bandwidth usage in communications of networked heterogenous learning *** product look-up table(P-LUT)inference scheme is leveraged to replace bit-shifting with only indexing and addition operations for achieving low-latency computation and implementing efficient edge ***,comprehensive experiments on Residual Networks(ResNets)and efficient architectures with Canadian Institute for Advanced Research(CIfaR),ImageNet,and Real-world Affective faces Database(RAF-DB)datasets,indicate that our approach achieves 2×∼10×improvement in the reduction of both weight size and computation cost in comparison to state-of-the-art methods.A P-LUT accelerator prototype is implemented on the Xilinx KV260 Field Programmable Gate Array(FPGA)platform for accelerating convolution operations,with performance results showing that P-LUT reduces memory footprint by 1.45×,achieves more than 3×power efficiency and 2×resource efficiency,compared to the conventional bit-shifting scheme.
