Localized-states quantum conf.nement induced by roughness in CdMnTe/CdTe heterostructures grown on Si(111) substrates

This work shows that despite a lattice mismatch of.almost 20%, CdMnTe/CdTe/CdMnTe heterostructures grown directly on Si(111) have surprisingly good optical emission properties. The investigated structures were grown by molecular beam epitaxy and characterized by scanning transmission electron microscopy, macro-and micro-photoluminescence. Low temperature macro-photoluminescence experiments indicate three emission bands which depend on the CdTe layer thickness and have dif.erent conf.nement characteristics. Temperature measurements reveal that the lower energy emission band (at 1.48 eV)is associated to def.cts and bound exciton states, while the main emission at 1.61 eV has a weak 2D character and the higher energy one at 1.71 eV has a well-def.ned (zero-dimensional, 0D) 0D nature. Micro-photoluminescence measurements show the existence of.sharp and strongly circularly polarized (up to 40%) emission lines which can be related to the presence of.Mn in the heterostructure. This result opens the possibility of.producing photon sources with the typical spin control of.the diluted magnetic semiconductors using the low-cost silicon technology.

Virtual brain twins are personalized, generative and adaptive brain models based on data f.om an individual's brain f.r scientif.c and clinical use. Af.er a description of.the key elements of.virtual brain twins,we present the standard model f.r personalized whole-brain network models. The personalization is accomplished using a subject's brain imaging data by three means:(1) assemble cortical and subcortical areas in the subject-specif.c brain space;(2) directly map connectivity into the brain models, which can be generalized to other parameters; and(3) estimate relevant parameters through model inversion, typically using probabilistic machine learning. We present the use of.personalized whole-brain network models in healthy ageing and f.ve clinical diseases: epilepsy, Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and psychiatric disorders. Specif.cally, we introduce spatial masks f.r relevant parameters and demonstrate their use based on the physiological and pathophysiological hypotheses. f.nally, we pinpoint the key challenges and f.ture directions.

A colliding microjet liquid sheet target system was developed and tested f.r pairs of.round nozzles of.10,11 and 18μm in *** sheet's position stability was f.und to be better than a f.w *** interaction with 50 mJ laser pulses,the 18μm jet has a resonance amplitude of.16μm at a repetition rate of.33 Hz,while towards 100 Hz it converges to 10μm f.r all nozzles.A white-light interf.rometric system was developed to measure the liquid sheet thickness in the target chamber both in air and in vacuum,with a measurement range of.182 nm±1μm and an accuracy of.3%.The overall shape and 3D shape of.the sheet f.llow the Hasson±Peck model in *** vacuum versus air,the sheet gradually loses 10%of.its thickness,so the thinnest sheet achieved was below 200 nm at a vacuum level of.10±4mbar,and remained stable f.r several hours of.operation.

Stroke Patients’ Reintegration into Normal Living Post-Discharge f.om Inpatient Rehabilitation: An Integrative Review

Background: Stroke rehabilitation prof.ssionals have historically f.cused rehabilitation on physical f.nctions and overlooked the concept of.community reintegration af.er discharge f.om inpatient rehabilitation. The lack of.f.cus on psychosocial f.nctions post-stroke may lead to lower levels of.satisf.ction during community reintegration. Methods: This integrative review synthesized f.ndings f.om research literature on stroke patients’ reintegration into the community af.er inpatient rehabilitation to address three research questions: a) What specif.c physical and psychosocial f.nctions have been identif.ed as predictors of.successf.l reintegration into normal living af.er stroke?, b) How do physical and psychosocial f.nctions promote successf.l reintegration into normal living af.er stroke?, and c) What f.ctors have been identif.ed that hinder stroke patients’ reintegration into normal living af.er stroke? Results: A systematic search of.literature identif.ed sixteen studies that provided signif.cant context f.r the research questions. What physical and psychosocial f.nctions of.stroke patients included, f.r example, improved mobility, independence in daily activities, reduced disability, psychological well-being, self.ef.icacy, social support, and personal relationships. How physical and psychosocial f.nctions promote reintegration included, f.r example, disability management, emotional well-being, self.care independence, sense of.purpose, and employment inf.uence. f.ctors that hinder stroke patients’ reintegration consisted of.longer stride time, impaired balance/mobility, activities limitation, severe stroke, presence of.comorbidity, depressive symptoms, speech and language challenges, inadequate self.ef.icacy, f.ar of.f.lling, older age, low educational level, lack of.social support, and social isolation. Red blood cells(RBCs)are the most abundant human blood *** aggregation and def.rmation strongly determine blood viscosity which impacts hemorheology and *** turn,RBC properties depend on di®erent endogenous and exogenous *** such f.ctor is nitric oxide(NO),which is mainly produced by endothelial cells(eC)f.om L-arginine amino acid in the circulatory *** the mechanisms of.the RBC-endothelium interplay are not clear up to date and considering its possible clinical importance,the aims of.this study are to investigate in vitro:(1)The e®ect of.L-arginine induced NO on RBC aggregation and adhesion to endothelium;(2)the NO e®ect on RBC aggregation and def.rmation induced by L-arginine and sodium nitroprusside without the presence of.endothelium in the *** RBC aggregation and adhesion to a monolayer of.eC were studied using optical tweezers(OT).The RBC def.rmability and aggregation without endothelium in the samples were studied using the°ow chamber method and Myrenne *** con¯rmed that NO increases def.rmability and decreases aggregation of.*** showed that the soluble guanylate cyclase pathway appears to be the only NO signaling pathway *** the samples with the endothelium,the\bell-shaped"dependence of.RBC aggregation f.rce on L-arginine concentration was observed,which improves our knowledge about the process of.NO production by ***,data related to L-arginine accumulation by endothelium were obtained:Necessity of.the presence of.extracellular L-arginine stated by other authors was put under *** our study,NO decreased the RBC-endothelium adhesion,however,the tendency appeared to be weak and was not con¯rmed in another set of.*** our knowledge,this is the¯rst attempt to measure the f.rces of.RBC adhesion to endothelium monolayer with OT.

Background:A multitude of.mouse models are utilized to emulate and study intestinal inf.ammation.T-cell receptor alpha chain(TCRα)-def.cient mice are used as a model of.spontaneous colitis that has similarities with human ulcerative ***,colitis is triggered late in the lif. of.the mouse(age:4-5 months),and inf.ammation does not develop at the same time in dif.erent mice.A previously conducted study reported that the administration of.the drug piroxicam triggered predictable and early colitis in TCRα-def.cient mice at the age of.6-8 ***,a detailed characterization of.ensuing inf.ammation was not ***:We conducted an in-depth examination of.piroxicam-triggered colitis in TCRα-def.cient mice,with emphasis on spatial histopathologic changes and analysis of.expression of.inf.ammatory ***,we tested amelioration of.colitis with ***:We conf.rmed that piroxicam induced a time-prescribed colitis and did so in the proximal colon as well as the cecum of.TCRα-def.cient *** adminis-tration was observed to induce epithelial hyperplasia,goblet cell loss,and leukocyte inf.ltration with occasional ulceration.A Swiss roll technique was used to examine the colon and cecum in its ***,we observed that inf.ammation was mul-tif.cal segmental,with areas of.tissue damage in between healthy *** addition,we observed variability in the severity of.inf.ammation among replicate animals and treatments,and that the administration of.dexamethasone only partially ameliorated inf.ammation in the proximal ***:Piroxicam consistently induced multif.cal segmental colitis in the proxi-mal colon and cecum,although the degree of.inf.ammation was reduced in the ***,spatial variability in inf.ammation in the large intestine and the inter-replicate variation in the severity of.inf.ammation must be taken into consideration when utilizing this murine model of.synchronized colitis.

Magnesium is an excellent material in terms of.biocompatibility and its corrosion products can serve as an active source f.r new bone ***,localized corrosion and H_(2)generation limit the potential of.Mg-based *** low-alloyed Mg-Zn wires can strongly reduce problems with large H_(2)bubbles and improve the mechanical properties considerably while maintaining excellent long-term *** pickling and a polymer coating can be ef.ectively used to lower the rate of.in vivo *** this work,microstructural,mechanical,and in vitro characterization of.250μm and 300μm extruded wires made f.om ultra-pure Mg,commercially pure Mg,Mg-0.15Zn,Mg-0.4Zn and Mg-1Zn was ***,Mg-0.4Zn wires together with a variant coated with a copolymer of.L-lactide andε-caprolactone were tested in vivo on artif.cially damaged Wistar rat *** on the observed Mg-induced osteogenesis,polymer-coated Mg wires with a small addition of.Zn are a perspective material f.r bone-support applications,such as cerclage and f.xation wires.

Surgical Site Inf.ctions in Trauma and Orthopaedics at Bouaké Teaching Hospital (Côte d’Ivoire)

Background: Surgical site inf.ctions are serious healthcare problems. The aim was to describe the epidemiological, diagnostic, therapeutic, and prognostic aspects of.surgical site inf.ctions in Trauma and Orthopaedics at Bouaké Teaching Hospital. Method: This retrospective, descriptive, and analytical study was conducted f.om January 2019 to December 31, 2021. The data studied included prevalence, initial lesions, type of.surgical intervention, type of.SSI, bacteria involved, treatment, and outcomes. Results: f.rty-f.ur (11%) of.the 399 patients included in the study developed a surgical site inf.ction. The mean age was 27 years, with 36 male and 8 f.male. Initial lesions were predominantly open f.actures (n = 31;70%), with a mean delay of.48 hours f.r surgical management. emergency interventions accounted f.r 70% (n = 31) of.cases. The NNISS inf.ction risk score was 1 in 80% (n = 35) of.cases. Superf.cial inf.ctions (n = 34;77%) appeared early, on a mean 6 days postoperatively. Bacteriological analysis primarily identif.ed Pseudomonas aeruginosa (n = 10;23%), sensitive to Imipenem and Chloramphenicol but resistant to Amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, Cef.riaxone, Gentamicin, and Ciprof.oxacin. Multidrug-resistant bacteria were f.und in 89% (n = 8) of.cases, with all bacteria resistant to Cef.riaxone. Surgical revision was perf.rmed in 10 patients (23%), primarily involving debridement with hardware retention (n = 7;70%). Chloramphenicol was the most commonly used antibiotic post-antibiogram (61%). Outcomes were f.vourable in 98% of.cases. Identif.ed risk f.ctors included the type of.lesion according to NRC classif.cation, the delay in managing open f.actures, and the NNISS score. Conclusion: The prevalence of.surgical site inf.ction was 11%, f.voured by the delayed operation of.open f.actures.

Studies f.om nearly 3 decades ago suggested that,in the central nervous system(CNS),myelination of.axons by oligodendrocytes not only helps improve axonal conductivity but also stabilizes circuitry(Colello and Schwab,1994).Over the years,myelin sheaths produced by oligodendrocytes have been f.und to contain multiple molecules that are inhibitory to axonal growth(e.g.,MAG,NogoA,OMgp,Semaphorins)(Yiu and He,2006;Silver et al.,2014).Af.er white matter injury in the adult CNS,myelin debris f.om damaged axons and dead oligodendrocytes accumulates in the f.rming glial scar and exposes these myelin-associated axon growth-inhibitory molecules to the injured axonal stumps,thereby contributing to the inhibition of.axonal *** development,CNS axons reach their postsynaptic targets and stop growing bef.re oligodendrocytes appear and myelinate them(f.ran and Peterson,1992;Dangata et al.,1996).Theref.re,myelin-associated axon growth-inhibitory molecules interacting with already grown axons during myelination were thought to block axons f.om promiscuous sprouting and miswiring,thereby stabilizing neural circuitry in the CNS(Colello and Schwab,1994).
