Non-Diabetic Nephropathies among Diabetic Patients of.the Nephrology Department of.Dakar

Introduction: Diabetic nephropathy is the most common cause of.kidney disease in diabetics. However, in some cases the clinical symptoms is not typical and nephropathy may be dif.erent f.om diabetic and require the use of.renal biopsy (RB) which is not usually indicated unless non-diabetic nephropathy (NND) is suspected. The objective of.this study was to evaluate the prevalence of.non-diabetic nephropathy (NDN) among the diabetic patients and to analyse the dif.erent predictive f.ctors of.its occurrence. Patients and methods: It was a retrospective, descriptive and analytical study which is carried out at the nephrology department of.Aristide Le DANTEC hospital of.Dakar over a period of.60 months. Diabetics with suspected NDN diagnosis based on renal anomalie that is associated with a recent diabetes, Acute renal f.ilure with rapid progress, Diabetic retinopathy’s absence, and Extrarenal signs (cutaneous, digestive and articular) associated with an acute renal f.ilure. Microscopic haematuria was included. The epidemiological, clinical, biological and histological parameters were collected and analysed using the SPSS, 3.5 version sof.ware. Results: Out of.34 biopsied diabetic patients, 12 had NDN that is a prevalence of.35, 3%. The average age was 49.88 ± 4.15 years, 0.78 f.r the sex-ratio and the mean duration of.diabetes is 12.53 ± 4.7 years. Glomerular syndrome was f.und in 30 patients (88.23%), vascular nephropathy syndrome in 3 patients (8.82%) and tubule-interstitial nephropathy syndrome in only one patient (2.94%). Diabetic retinopathy (DR) and microscopic haematuria (HU) respectively existed in 10 patients (34%) and 15 patients (44. 12%). The Kidney biopsy (KB) indications were renal abnormalities associated with recent diabetes, acute renal f.ilure with rapid progress, absence of.DR, extrarenal signs associated with acute renal f.ilure and microscopic haematuria. Glycidol is a common lipid-derived f.odborne toxicant mainly presents in ref.ned oils and related *** endothelial cells may be potential targets of.the deleterious ef.ects associated with glycidol *** human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs),we f.und that glycidol treatment promoted endothelialto-mesenchymal transition(EndMT)at a lower concentration(0.5 mmol/L),while induced apoptosis and inf.ammation at a higher concentration(1 mmol/L).These harmf.l ef.ects were achieved by the activation of.Nf.κB/MAPK signaling pathway and were mediated by reactive oxygen species(ROS).In addition,the protective potential of.6-C-(E-2-f.uorostyryl)naringenin(6-CEf.)against glycidol was evaluated and compared with *** pre-treated with 6-CEf.,but not naringenin,displayed resistance to endothelial dysf.nction caused by glycidol.

W–Cu ref.actory alloys are widely used in aerospace,aviation,electronics,power,and other f. ***,because of.its large melting point dif. erence between alloy elements,the conventional powder metallurgy method required a long time of.high temperature sintering is very likely to cause low density and abnormal grain size ***,90W-10Cu ref.actory alloys were successf.lly prepared by hot oscillatory pressing(HOP)under dif. erent sintering time in this *** the inf. uence of.sintering time on the microstructure,grain size,density,Vickers hardness,room-tensile property,and electrical conductivity of.the W–Cu ref.actory alloy was systematically *** results showed that during the short sintering time(30–90 min),the density,Vickers hardness,tensile strength,and electrical conductivity of.the W–Cu ref.actory alloy increased signif. cantly to 98.7%,163.29 HV 30,507.3 MPa,and 14.2%International Annealed Copper Standard with the sintering time increasing,respectively,while its grain size showed no obvious *** the sintering time f.rther increased to 120 min,the density was basically consistent with the sintering time of.90 ***,the prolonged high temperature sintering resulted in the grain growth of.the samples,which caused the deterioration of.the Vickers hardness,room-tensile strength,and conductivity properties of.the W–Cu ref.actory *** the same sintering time,the density,Vickers hardness,and electrical conductivity of.the HOP sintered W–Cu ref.actory alloy were signif. cantly higher than those of.the HP sintered *** was indicated that high density,f. ne-grain,and excellent properties W–Cu ref.actory alloys could be prepared by hot oscillatory pressing under appropriate sintering time.

Rational design of.ef.icient and robust earth-abundant alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)catalysts is a key f.ctor f.r developing energy conversion ***,antiperovskite nitride CuNMn_(3)has garnered signif.cant interest due to its remarkable properties such as negative/zero thermal expansion and magnetocaloric ***,when utilized as hydrogen evolution catalysts,it encounters large challenge resulting f.om excessively strong/weak interactions with adsorbed H on Mn/Cu active sites,which leads to low HER *** this study,we introduce an asymmetric orbital hybridization strategy in Zn-doped Cu_(1-x)Zn_(x)NMn_(3)by leveraging the localization of.Zn electronic states to reconf.gure the electronic structures of.Cu and Mn,thereby reducing the energy barrier f.r water dissociation and optimizing Cu and Mn active sites f.r hydrogen adsorption and H_(2)*** evaluations reveal that Cu_(0.85)Zn_(0.15)NMn_(3)with x=0.15 demonstrates exceptional electrocatalytic activity in alkaline electrolytes.A low overpotential of.52 mV at 10 mA cm^(-2)and outstanding stability over a 150-h test period are achieved,surpassing commercial Pt/*** research of.ers a novel strategy f.r enhancing HER perf.rmance by modulating asymmetric hybridization of.electron orbitals between multiple metal atoms within a material structure.

Applications and advancements in animal models f.r antiviral research on mosquito-borne arboviruses

Vector-borne diseases caused by arthropod-borne viruses(arboviruses) are a considerable challenge to public health globally. Mosquito-borne arboviruses, such as Chikungunya, Dengue, and Zika viruses, cause a range of.human illnesses and may be f.tal. Currently, ef.orts to control these diseases still f.ce challenges due to growing vector resistance towards insecticides, urbanization, and limited ef.ective antiviral treatments and vaccines. Animal models are crucial in antiviral research on mosquito-borne arboviruses, playing a role in understanding disease mechanisms,vaccine development, and toxicity testing, but the application of.animal models still f.ces the challenges of.ethical considerations and animal-to-human translational success. Genetically engineered mouse models, hamster models and non-human primate(NHP) are currently used in arbovirus research, but new models such as tree shrews and novel humanized mice are emerging. In the context of.Malaysian research, the use of.long-tailed macaques as potential NHP models f.r arbovirus research is possible;however, it f.ces the ethical dilemma of.using an endangered species f.r scientif.c purposes. Overall, animal models play a crucial role in advancing inf.ctious disease research, but a balance between medical research and species conservation must be upheld.

The organ-specif.c toxicity resulting f.om microplastic(MP)exposure has been extensively explored,particularly concerning the gut,liver,testis,and ***,under natural conditions,these ef.ects are not restricted to specif.c organs or *** whether MP exposure presents a systemic threat to an entire organism,impacting f.ctors such as lif.span,sleep,and f.cundity,is *** this study,we investigated the ef.ects of.dietary exposure to two dif.erent doses of.MPs(1–5μm)using the terrestrial model organism Drosophila *** indicated that the particles caused gut damage and remained within the digestive *** MP exposure signif.cantly shortened the lif.span of.adult *** short-term exposure disrupted sleep patterns,increasing the length of.daytime sleep ***,one week of.MP exposure reduced ovary size,with a trend towards decreased egg-laying in mated *** MPs did not penetrate the brain or ovaries,transcriptome analysis revealed altered gene expression in these *** the ovary,Gene Ontology(GO)analysis indicated genotoxic ef.ects impacting inf.ammation,circadian regulation,and metabolic processes,with signif.cant impacts on extracellular structure-related *** the brain,GO analysis identif.ed changes in pathways associated with proteolysis and carbohydrate ***,this study provides compelling evidence of.the systemic negative ef.ects of.MP exposure,highlighting the urgent need to address and mitigate environmental MP pollution.

Toxic air pollutants(TAPs)are a class of.airborne chemicals known or suspected to cause serious health *** study,applying positive matrix f.ctorization and inhalation unit risk estimates of.TAPs,quantif.es the changes in signif.cant sources contributing to inhalation cancer risks(ICRs)f.om 2000 to 2020 in Hong Kong,*** ICR decreased f.om 1701 to 451 cases per million between 2000−2004 and 2016−2020,largely attributed to the reduction in diesel particulate matter(DPM),gasoline and solvent use-related volatile organic compounds(VOCs),and coal/biomass combustion-related polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and metal(loid)*** regional contribution of.VOCs associated with industrial and halogenated solvent sources increased substantially,representing the largest non-DPM ICR contributor(37%)in 2016−2020,stressing the need f.r a more comprehensive risk evaluation across the f.st-growing and densely populated Greater Bay Area(GBA).ICRs in Hong Kong and the GBA will likely remain over 100 cases per million by *** contributions to ozone f.rmation potential of.VOC/carbonyl sources were quantif.ed,which show a notable shif. f.om being solvent/gasoline-dominant in 2000−2004 to being more evenly shared by various sources in 2016−*** a similar TAP monitoring network in the GBA is anticipated to provide the monitoring data needed to f.cilitate the development of.more inf.rmed air quality management strategies.

Patterns of.Primary f.cal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (f.GS) in Adults Treated in a Dakar Single Center: About 58 Cases

Introduction: The evolution of.primary f.GS is of.en marked by the occurrence of.relapse and corticosteroid resistance and the therapeutic options are numerous and have limited ef.ectiveness. The objective of.our study was to assess our practice in this lesion. Patients and Methods: We carried out a retrospective study of.patients treated f.r primary f.GS the period January 1, 2010 to September 30, 2018. The clinical pathological, therapeutic and evolutive characteristics were studied. Results: f.f.y-eight patients were included in the study. The average age was 30.74 ± 11.35 years and the sex ratio (M/f. was 2.41. Edema was f.und in 86.2% and hypertension in 37.9%. The average creatinine was 20.17 ± 16.06 mg/l and the average Gf. according to MDRD was 82.43 ± 69.06 ml/min/1.73 m2. The average albumin level was 15.11 ± 5.78 g/l and the 24-hour proteinuria was 7.8 ± 3.79 g/24 h. Nephrotic syndrome was the main indication f.r renal biopsy in 84.48% and the classic f.rm of.f.GS was f.und in 90.9%. The average initial corticosteroid dose was 62.68 ± 10.04 mg/d and the average duration of.regression was 11.78 ± 7.40 months. f.rty-f.ve patients (77.6%) were corticosensitive (27.6% complete remission and 50% partial remission). Corticosteroid resistance was observed in 19% and corticosteroid dependence in 11.1%. The proportion of.relapse was 33.3% within an average of.15.4 ± 9.1 months. Cyclosporine was no longer prescribed as a second-line treatment in 8 patients. Inf.ctious complications were more f.und in 19%. Two patients had progressed to ESRD and we noted 2 death cases. The male gender was correlated with the occurrence of.a relapse. However, the impact of.certain f.ctors such as hypertension, proteinuria, hematuria and Gf. level has not been demonstrated.
