Climatic variability is one of.the main constraints of.agriculture in Mali, which will certainly af.ect long-term sorghum yields. The objective of.the present study was to assess the ef.ect of.climate variability on sorghum production areas by 2050 in the Sudanian and Sahelian zones of.Mali considering three climate scenarios: current scenarios (RCP 2.5), optimistic scenarios (RCP 4.5) and pessimistic scenarios (RCP 8.5). Theref.re, 11,010 occurrence points of.sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) were collected and associated with the environmental variables of.the three climatic scenarios according to the maximum entropy approach (Maxent). Sorghum environmental data and points of.occurrence were obtained f.om Af.iClim and GBIf.databases, respectively. The correlations carried out and the Jackknif. test allowed us to identif. variables that contributed more to the perf.rmance of.the model. Overall, in the Sudanian zone, the suitable area f.r sorghum production which currently represents 37% of.the area of.the district of.Koulikoro will increase up to 51% by 2050 considering the optimistic scenario (RCP 4.5). f.rthermore, considering the pessimistic scenario (RCP 8.5), the suitable zones f.r sorghum production will experience a decrease of.10%. In the Sahelian zone, the suitable zones f.r sorghum production that represent 55% of.San district area considering the RCP 2.5 scenario will experience a decline of.24% by 2050 considering both the optimistic (RCP 4.5) and pessimistic (RCP 8.5) scenarios. It is suggested to carry out investigations on potential sorghum yield prediction in both study areas in order to identif. suitable production areas of.the crop in the near f.ture (2050) and long term (2100) as adaptation strategies and resilience of.f.rmers to climate change.

Pendjari Biosphere Reserve(PBR),a primary component of.the W-Arly-Pendjari transboundary biosphere reserve,represents the largest intact wild ecosystem and pristine biodiversity spot in West *** savannah ecosystem has long been af.ected by f.re,which is the main ecological driver f.r the annual rhythm of.lif. in the *** the f.re distribution patterns will help to improve its management plan in the *** study explores the f.re regime in the PRB during 2001–2021 in terms of.burned area,seasonality,f.re f.equency,and mean f.re return interval(Mf.I)by analysing moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer(MODIS)burned area *** indicated that the f.re season in the PBR extends f.om October to May with a peak in early dry season(November–December).The last two f.re seasons(2019–2020 and 2020–2021)recorded the highest areas burned in the PBR out of.the twenty f.re seasons *** the twenty years period,8.2%of.the reserve burned every 10–11 months and 11.5%burned *** largest part of.the reserve burned every one to two years(63.1%),while 8.3%burned every two to f.ur years,5.8%burned every f.ur to ten years,and 1.9%burned every ten to twenty *** 1.3%of.the entire area did not f.re during the whole study *** returned to a particular site every 1.39 a and the annual percentage of.area burned in the PBR was 71.9%.The Mf.I(Mf.If.the *** this context,we suggest applying early f.re in tree and woodland savannahs to lower grass height,and late dry season f.res every two to three years in shrub savannah to limit the expansion of.shrubs and *** propose a laissez-f.ire system in areas in woodland savannah where the f.re f.equency is suf.icient to allow tree *** f.ndings highlight the utility of.remote sensing in def.ning the geographical and

Research on the inf.uence of.thermal radiation of.tree canopies to adjacent exterior walls has relevance to the selection of.tree species and the spatial arrangement of.trees f.r urban *** the last decade,there have been many studies on the inf.uence of.tree shadows on the thermal environment and energy consumption of.***,there is a lack of.research on how trees af.ect the thermal radiation of.adjacent buildings,when they do not cast direct shadows on the *** view of.this,a combination of.experiment and simulation was used to explore the inf.uence of.spherical canopy on the intensity changes of.net long-wave thermal radiation(T_(RDL))and net short-wave thermal radiation(T_(RDS))absorbed by the adjacent *** measured and simulated results show that the tree canopy has a T_(RD)(the sum of.T_(RDL) and T_(RDS))ef.ect on the south wall of.adjacent buildings in *** peak of.T_(RD) f.om the tree to the adjacent wall was obtained by ENVI-met under 27 scenarios.A f.nctional relationship was f.rther given between the peak T_(RD) and the canopy diameter(D_(C)),the minimum distance between wall and tree canopy(D_(W-T)).Moreover,the inf.uence of.D_(C),D_(W-T) and leaf.area density(LAD)on T_(RD) was discussed by ***,the Trd of.canopy decays exponentially in the horizontal direction and linearly in the vertical direction of.the *** above methods and results can guide the selection of.tree species,green space design around buildings and the evaluation of.the inf.uence of.trees on indoor cooling energy consumption in summer.

Occurrence of.viable but non-culturable(VBNC)pathogenic bacteria in tap water of.public places

Viable but non-culturable(VBNC)bacteria have been detected in source water and ef.luent of.drinking water treatment processes,leading to signif.cant underestimation of.viable cell *** inf.rmation exists on VBNC bacteria in tap water,particularly in public *** address this gap,a comprehensive nine-month study was conducted in a major city in south-eastern China,using culture-based and quantitative PCR with propidium monoazide(PMA)dye ***-f.ve samples were collected f.om f.ve representative public places(railway station,campus,hospital,shopping mall,and institution).The f.ndings revealed that culturable bacteria represented only 0–17.51%of.the viable 16S rRNA genes,suggesting that the majority of.viable bacteria existed in an uncultured or VBNC ***,opportunistic pathogens such as Escherichia coli,Enterococcus f.ecalis,Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Salmonella sp.,and Shigella *** primarily detected as VBNC cells,with concentrations ranging f.om 1.03×10^(0)to 3.01×10^(3),1.20×10^(0)to 1.42×10^(2),1.32×10^(0)to 8.82×10^(0),1.00×10^(0)to 6.71×10^(1),and 2.07×10^(0)to 1.93×10^(2)cell equivalent/100 mL,*** *** was observed in tap water af.er prolonged stagnation,indicating potential risks associated with bacterial *** and temporal f.ctors accounted f.r 17.1%and 26.0%,respectively,of.the variation in tap water community structure during the sampling period,as revealed by 16S rRNA amplicon *** study provides quantitative insights into the occurrence of.VBNC bacteria in tap water and highlights the need f.r more sensitive monitoring methods and microbial control techniques to enhance tap water saf.ty in public locations.

Ef.icacy of.Metarhizium anisopliae in controlling the two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae on common bean in screenhouse and f.eld experiments

The ef.icacy of.aqueous and emulsif.able f.rmulations of.the f.ngus Metarhizium anisopliae isolate ICIPE78 was evaluated on the population density of.Tetranychus urticae inf.sting common bean plants under screenhouse and f.eld conditions. Synthetic acaricide abamectin was included as a check. Bean plants were artif.cially inf.sted with T. urticae and allowed to multiply. Three treatments were applied in the screenhouse and 1 treatment in f.eld trials. Mite density was recorded 2 d bef.re spraying and weekly postspraying. The number of.pods per plant, number of.seeds per pod, and the dry weight of.seeds per plant were recorded only in the screenhouse trials. In both screenhouse and f.eld trials, f.ngal f.rmulations applied at the concentration of.108 conidia/mL and the aearicide reduced the population density of.mites as compared to the controls. There were signif. icant dif.erences in T. urticae population densities between the treatments at the various post-spraying sampling dates. In the screenhouse, the mite densities were near zero f.om 3-week postspraying in the treated leaves. At 4-week postspraying, there were no more leaves in the untreated control （T1） and in the control water ＋ Silwet-L77 （T2）. f.ngal f.rmulations were as ef.ective as abamectin in reducing mite densities in both screenhouse and f.eld experiments. There were signif.cant dif.erences in the production parameters during the 2 screenhouse trials, with f.ngal and abamectin treatments generally having the highest yield. Results of.this study underline the potential of.the M. anisopliae isolate ICIPE78 as an alternative to acaricides f.r T. urticae management.

Maize (Zea mays L.) is the major cereal cultivated in Benin and it is important to know its genetic diversity to improve the yield. The genetic markers of.important traits are evaluated in order to improve the maize inbred lines. The aim of.this study was to evaluate the genetic diversity of.Benin’s maize accessions by SSR marker. Thus, one hundred eighty seven maize accessions f.om three areas (South, Center and North) were analyzed using three SSR markers. A total of.227 polymorphic bands were produced and showed high genetic diversity (Shannon index = 0.51). The polymorphic inf.rmation content (PIC) values f.r the SSR loci ranged f.om 0.58 to 0.81, with an average of.0.71. Genetic distance-based UPGMA dendrogram showed a genetic dif.erentiation between accessions and they were grouped into f.ur clusters in each area. This work provides necessary inf.rmation that can be used not only to improve the maize production and conservation but also to better manage genetic species resources in Benin.

Analysis of.Cropping Practices on Two Irrigated Perimeters of.the Volta Blanche Basin with the Use of.Shallow Groundwater

This study aims to analyze the development of.small-scale irrigation using shallow groundwater in Nahouri province (south-central Burkina f.so). The methodological approach adopted was essentially based f.rstly on semi-structured surveys with producers who have adopted sump technology and the monitoring of.groundwater level using the installed piezometers and secondly on geophysical prospection. Results obtained show that market gardening is mainly a f.mily activity practiced on plots of.0.20 ha with a predominance of.pepper cultivation occupying about 75% of.cultivated areas. It was also highlighted that this agricultural activity f.ces several constraints that delay its development. These include: lack of.water, land insecurity, small and f.agmented f.rms and dif.iculty in selling products when they are put on local markets at the very same time as signif.cant price drops. This problem is accentuated by the perishable nature of.these market garden products. Despite these limiting f.ctors, there is some satisf.ction considering the income earned by f.rmers, most of.whom are able to meet their primary needs. This work made it possible to conclude that even in zones which are not sedimentary f.rmations, it is possible to mobilize groundwater, at a reasonable depth f.r agricultural purposes, without much ef.ort to practice additional irrigation, knowing that evaporation carries harm to the use of.dams.
