Soil Pore Characterization Using free Software and a Portable Optical Microscope

Total porosity （TP）, determined by image analysis, pore type and pore size distribution were evaluated on impregnated soil blocks from an undisturbed brazilian sandy loam soil using a digital portable optical microscope. The free software Image J （version 1.40g） was used for image analysis. Procedures for soil image collection and analysis were presented. The image analysis allowed the evaluation of pore sizes with diameters ranging from 20 to 〉 1 000 μm. The following types of pores were also obtained： rounded, elongated and intermediate. The results M[owed the characterization of the soil as moderately porous （TP = 21.6%）. Rounded, intermediate and elongated pores were responsible for 11.6%, 31.7% and 56.7% of TP. In relation to pore size 51.1% of TP was in the 100-500μm size class and a third of TP came from the pores larger than 500μm.

The magnetohydrodynamic Sutterby fluid flow instigated by a spinning stretchable disk is modeled in this *** Stefan blowing and heat and mass flux aspects are incorporated in the thermal *** conventional models for heat and mass flux,i.e.,fourier and fick models,are modified using the Cattaneo-Christov(CC)model for the more accurate modeling of the *** boundary layer equations that govern this problem are solved using the apt similarity *** subsequent system of equations is tackled by the Runge-Kutta-fehlberg(RKf)*** graphical visualizations of the results are discussed with the physical *** rates of mass and heat transmission are evaluated for the augmentation in the pertinent *** Stefan blowing leads to more species diffusion which in turn increases the concentration field of the *** external magnetism is observed to decrease the velocity ***,more thermal relaxation leads to a lower thermal field which is due to the increased time required to transfer the heat among fluid *** heat transport is enhanced by the stretching of the rotating disk.

We investigate the electronic transport in a simple mesoscopic cross structure made of two wires(stubs)grafted at the same point along a quantum *** show that the structure may exhibit important phenomena such as bound in continuum(bIC)*** states are transformed into electromagnetically induced transparency(EIT)resonance by detuning slightly the lengths of the *** last phenomenon is used to propose and study a mesoscopic demultiplexer device with an input waveguide and two output *** give closed-form expressions of the geometrical parameters that allow a selective transfer of a given state in the first waveguide without perturbing the second *** effect of temperature on the transmission resonances is also examined by using Landauer-büttiker *** analytical results of the dispersion relation and transmission and reflection coefficient are obtained using the Green's function method.

In mountain agriculture, early maturity, high grain yield and high biomass are generally considered as farmer preferred traits in rice crop in addition to a multiple set of traits collectively responsible for variety adoption or rejection. The varieties tested only on station evaluation trials without taking the data from the farmers＇ fields by not including farmers as partners for variety evaluation are the reasons of low adoption of varieties. In this regard, a participatory methodology was followed by conducting a number of participatory trials in the farmers＇ fields during 2012-2014 in six districts of Kashmir Valley, India. The mother trials in the farmers＇ fields showed that the test variety SKUA-408 consistently and significantly out yielded Jhelum and farmers＇ variety followed by Shalimar rice 3 （SR3）. The other released varieties like SR1 and SR2 could not perform nicely in the farmers＇ fields because of late maturity. After making the t-test comparison of baby trials （paired plots）, the mean yield superiority of test varieties SKUA-408, SR3, and SKUA-403 over farmers＇ variety during 2013 was around 23, 25, and 22％, respectively, whereas in 2014 the respective yield advantage was recorded as 16.3, 17.7, and 16.2％. In all districts, SKUA-408 and SR3 were significantly preferred by farmers （P〈0.05 or 0.01） in terms of pre-harvest traits namely, tillering ability and general phenotypic acceptability, early maturity and biomass and for post-harvest traits such as general cooking quality besides, the intention to grow the variety for next year. Adoption and dissemination of SKUA-408 began in 2014 from the farm-saved seed in the form of farmer to farmer seed exchange. farmers are the end users of a variety so the decision by the farmers while judging the variety should be taken into consideration to make the varietal choice more effective for its widespread adoption.

Ab initio molecular dynamics simulations were performed to investigate the effect of similar elements on the shortto medium-range atomic packing features in Ce70Al30 and La70Al30 glass-forming alloys. 4 f electrons of Ce element in Ce70Al30 alloy were properly treated in electronic calculations. The local atomic structures in both alloys are qualitatively similar. However, the local environments of Al atoms in Ce70Al30 alloy show fluctuation with temperature in the cooling process, which could result from 4 f electrons of Ce elements. Surprisingly, the medium-range atomic packing features of Al atoms in both MGs are quite different, although Ce and La elements are similar. These findings are useful for understanding the enhanced glass-forming ability by similar element substitution in RE-based MGs from a medium-range structure perspective.

The experimental work reported here is devoted to the study of the luminous activity of a long dielectric barrier discharge （DbD） afterglow at atmospheric pressure. The discharge plasma is generated in a commercially available （AcXys Technologies） reactor, using a N2 flow of a few tens SL/min, whereas the luminous afterglow when channelled into a quartz tube extends at a distance of 50 cm, finishing in a luminous arrow at the tube＇s exit. The luminous activity of the afterglow is studied by means of photomultiplier scans and optical emission spectroscopy, revealing an interesting transient phase. An attempt is made to correlate this effect with the active species＇ creation and destruction mechanisms.

Conventional two-layered structure thermal barrier coatings (TbCs) were prepared onto γ'-Ni3Al based alloy IC-6 by electron beam physical vapor deposition (Eb-PVD). Isothermal oxidation and thermal cycling tests were carried out to investigate the effect of Mo content at the interface between bond coat and ceramic top coat caused by diffusion. It has been found that the alloy coated with TbCs presented the lowest oxidation weight gain value for the reason that the ceramic top coat in TbC system can effectively stop Mo oxides evaporating. The life time of TbCs has close relation with Mo content at the interface between the bond coat and top coat. Spaliation of ceramic top coat occurred during thermal cyclic testing when Mo atoms accumulated at the interface up to certain amount to decline the combination between the bond coat and top coat.

A statistical work has been done to collect the composition ranges of Ni-Mn-Ga alloys exhibiting different structures and martensite start temperature （M,）, large magnetostrain or the co-existence of magnetic and structural transitions. The alloys with five-layered （5M）, seven-layered （7M） modulated and non-modulated （T） martensitic structures were mapped in the graph. An empirical formula has been presented to reflect the effect of elements nickel （Ni ）, manganese （ Mn ） and gallium （Ga）, on the martensite start temperature （M3）. The martensitic structure is sensitive to the composition and the martensitic transformation temperature is most drastically affected by the Ni content. The alloys with large magnetostrain or co-existence effect of the magnetic and structural transitions were also listed in a limited area.
