Predictive modelling of ferroelectric tunnel junctions

Ferroelectric tunnel junctions combine the phenomena of quantum-mechanical tunnelling and switchable spontaneous polarisation of a nanometre-thick ferroelectric film into novel device *** the ferroelectric barrier polarisation direction produces a sizable change in resistance of the junction—a phenomenon known as the tunnelling electroresistance *** a fundamental perspective,ferroelectric tunnel junctions and their version with ferromagnetic electrodes,i.e.,multiferroic tunnel junctions,are testbeds for studying the underlying mechanisms of tunnelling electroresistance as well as the interplay between electric and magnetic degrees of freedom and their effect on *** a practical perspective,ferroelectric tunnel junctions hold promise for disruptive device *** a very short time,they have traversed the path from basic model predictions to prototypes for novel non-volatile ferroelectric random access memories with non-destructive *** remarkable progress is to a large extent driven by a productive cycle of predictive modelling and innovative experimental *** this review article,we outline the development of the ferroelectric tunnel junction concept and the role of theoretical modelling in guiding experimental *** discuss a wide range of physical phenomena that control the functional properties of ferroelectric tunnel junctions and summarise the state-of-the-art achievements in the field.

The elementary excitations in metallic glasses(MGs),i.e.,β processes that involve hopping between nearby sub-basins,underlie many unusual properties of the amorphous alloys.A high-efficacy prediction of the propensity for those activated processes from solely the atomic positions,however,has remained a daunting ***,employing well-designed site environment descriptors and machine learning(ML),notable progress has been made in predicting the propensity for stress-activated β processes(i.e.,shear transformations)from the static structure.

Universal Fermi velocity in highly compressed hydride superconductors

The Fermi velocity vF is one of the primary characteristics of any conductor,including any *** conductors at ambient pressure,several experimental techniques have been developed to measure vF,and,for instance,Zhou et al.[Nature 423,398(2003)]reported that high-Tc cuprates exhibited a universal nodal Fermi velocity vF,univ=(2.7±0.5)×10^(5) m/***,there have been no measurements of vF in highly compressed near-room-temperature superconductors(NRTS),owing to experimental ***,to answer the question of the existence of a universal Fermi velocity in NRTS materials,we analyze the full inventory of data on the ground-state upper critical field Bc2(0)for these materials and find that this class of superconductors exhibits a universal Fermi velocity vF,univ=(1/1.3)×[2Δ(0)/kBTc]×10^(5) m/s,whereΔ(0)is the ground-state amplitude of the energy *** ratio 2Δ(0)/kBTc varies within a narrow range 3.2≤2Δ(0)/kBTc≤5,and so vF,univ in NRTS materials lies in the range 2.5×10^(5) m/s≤vF,univ≤3.8×10^(5) m/s,which is similar to the range of values found for the high-Tc cuprate counterparts of these materials.

Purpose–The purpose of this paper is to analyze the redistribution of dopant and radiation defects to determine conditions which correspond to decreasing of elements in the considered inverter and at the same time to increase their ***/methodology/approach–In this paper,the authors introduce an approach to increase integration rate of elements in a three-level *** approach is based on decrease in the dimension of elements of the inverter(diodes and bipolar transistors)due to manufacturing of these elements by diffusion or ion implantation in a heterostructure with specific configuration and optimization of annealing of dopant and radiation ***–The authors formulate recommendations to increase density of elements of the inverter with a decrease in their *** implications–Optimization of manufacturing of integrated circuits and their ***/value–The results of this paper are based on original analysis of transport of dopant with account transport and interaction of radiation defects.

Gastric cancer continues to be an important healthcare problem from a global perspective. Most of the cases in the Western world are diagnosed at late stages when the treatment is largely ineffective. Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) infection is a well-established carcinogen for gastric cancer. While lifestyle factors are important,the efficacy of interventions in their modification,as in the use of antioxidant supplements,is unconvincing. No organized screening programs can be found outside Asia(Japan and South Korea). Although several screening approaches have been proposed,including indirect atrophy detection by measuring pepsinogen in the circulation,none of them have so far been implemented,and more study data is required to justify any implementation. Mass eradication of H. pylori in high-risk areas tends to be cost-effective,but its adverse effects and resistance remain a concern. Searches for new screening biomarkers,including microRNA and cancer-autoantibody panels,as well as detection of volatile organic compounds in the breath,are in progress. Endoscopy with a proper biopsy follow-up remains the standard for early detection of cancer and related premalignant lesions. At the same time,new advanced high-resolution endoscopic technologies are showing promising results with respect to diagnosing mucosal lesions visually and targeting each biopsy. New histological risk stratifications(classifications),including OLGA and OLGIM,have recently been developed. This review addresses the current means for gastric cancer primary and secondary prevention,the available and emerging methods for screening,and new developments in endoscopic detection of early lesions of the stomach.

Lower gastrointestinal hemorrhage presents a common indication for hospitalization and account for over300000 admissions per year in the United *** imaging is often required to aid in localization of the hemorrhage prior to therapeutic intervention if endoscopic treatment *** includes computer tomography angiography,red blood cell tagged scintigraphy and conventional angiography,with scintigraphy being the most sensitive followed by computer tomography *** celio-mesenteric supply occurs in 2%of the population;however failure to identify this may result in failed endovascular *** tomography angiography is sensitive for arterial hemorrhage and delineates the anatomy,allowing the treating physician to plan an endovascular *** at the time of conventional angiography,the active bleed is not visualized,but the site of bleeding has been identified on computer tomography angiography,provocative angiography can be utilized in order to stimulate bleeding and subsequent targeted *** describe a case of lower gastrointestinal hemorrhage at the splenic flexure supplied by a celiomesenteric branch in a patient and provocative angiography with tissue plasminogen activator utilized at the time of treatment to illicit the site of hemorrhage and subsequent treatment.

Heart failure is common in adult population,accounting for substantial morbidity and mortality *** main risk factors for heart failure are coronary artery disease,hypertension,obesity,diabetes mellitus,chronic pulmonary diseases,family history of cardiovascular diseases,cardiotoxic *** main factor associated with poor outcome of these patients is constant progression of heart *** the current review we present evidence on the role of established and candidate neurohumoral biomarkers for heart failure progression management and diagnostics.A growing number of biomarkers have been proposed as potentially useful in heart failure patients,but not one of them still resembles the characteristics of the"ideal biomarker."A single marker will hardly perform well for screening,diagnostic,prognostic,and therapeutic management ***,the pathophysiological and clinical significance of biomarkers may depend on the presentation,stage,and severity of the *** authors cover main classification of heart failure phenotypes,based on the measurement of left ventricular ejection fraction,including heart failure with preserved ejection fraction,heart failure with reduced ejection fraction,and the recently proposed category heart failure with mid-range ejection *** could envisage specific sets of biomarker with different performances in heart failure progression with different left ventricular ejection fraction especially as concerns prediction of the future course of the disease and of left ventricular adverse/reverse *** article is intended to provide an overview of basic and additional mechanisms of heart failure progression will contribute to a more comprehensive knowledge of the disease pathogenesis.

Numerical 3D-modeling of spall and shear fractures in shells of austenitic 12Kh18N10T steel and 30KhGSA steel under their spherical and quasi-spherical explosive loading

To pursue VNIIEF–VNIITF joint investigations,this paper briefly describes the experimental setup and provides numerical 3D-computation results(LEGAK-3D technique)on special features in the convergence dynamics of steel shells under their quasi-spherical explosive loading in the system with the 40-mm outer radius of the explosive *** computation results were compared with the data experimentally registered for shells of the 30KhGSA steel,both as-received and quenched to HRC 35...40,and the austenitic 12Kh18N10T stainless *** comparison was also made with laserinterferometry results obtained directly under explosive loading,as well as with gammatomography and scanning electron microscopy investigations of the recovered shells.

Influence of Features of Interphase Boundaries on Mechanical Properties and Fracture Pattern in Metal-Ceramic Composites

The results of a theoretical study on the influence of strength of interphase boundaries in metal-ceramic composite on macroscopical characteristics of composite response such as strength, deformation capacity, fracture energy and fracture pattern are presented. The study was conducted by means of computer-aided simulation by means of movable cellular automaton method taking account of a developed ＂mesoscopical＂ structural model of particle-reinforced composite. The strength of interphase boundaries is found to be a key structural factor determining not only the strength properties of metal-ceramic composite, but also the pattern and rate of fracture. The principles for achievement of the high-strength values of particle/binder interfaces in the metal-ceramic composition due to the formation of the wide transition zones （areas of variable chemical composition） at the interphase boundaries are discussed. Simulation results confirm that such transition zones provide a change in fracture mechanism and make the achievement of a high-strength and a high deformation capacity of metal-ceramic composite possible.
