Theoretical potential for low energy consumption phase change memory utilizing electrostatically-induced structural phase transitions in 2D materials

Structural phase-change materials are of great importance for applications in information storage *** driven structural phase transitions are employed in phase-change memory to achieve lower programming voltages and potentially lower energy consumption than mainstream nonvolatile memory ***,the waste heat generated by such thermal mechanisms is often not optimized,and could present a limiting factor to widespread *** potential for electrostatically driven structural phase transitions has recently been predicted and subsequently reported in some two-dimensional materials,providing an athermal mechanism to dynamically control properties of these materials in a nonvolatile fashion while achieving potentially lower energy *** this work,we employ DFT-based calculations to make theoretical comparisons of the energy required to drive electrostatically-induced and thermally-induced phase *** theoretical limits in monolayer MoTe2 and thin films of Ge_(2)Sb_(2)Te_(5),we find that the energy consumption per unit volume of the electrostatically driven phase transition in monolayer MoTe2 at room temperature is 9% of the adiabatic lower limit of the thermally driven phase transition in Ge_(2)Sb_(2)Te_(5).Furthermore,experimentally reported phase change energy consumption of Ge_(2)Sb_(2)Te_(5) is 100–10,000 times larger than the adiabatic lower limit due to waste heat flow out of the material,leaving the possibility for energy consumption in monolayer MoTe2-based devices to be orders of magnitude smaller than Ge_(2)Sb_(2)Te_(5)-based devices.

Aims Seeds of many invasive plants germinate more quickly than those of native species,likely facilitating invasion *** the germination traits and seed properties simultaneously for introduced and native populations of an invasive plant is essential to understanding biological ***,we used Triadica sebifera as a study organism to examine intraspecific differences in seed germination together with seed *** We measured physical(volume,mass,coat hardness and coat thickness of seeds)and chemical(crude fat,soluble protein,sugar,gibberellins[GA]and abscisic acid[ABA]of kernels)properties of *** seeds collected in 2017 from 12 introduced(United States)populations and 12 native(China)populations and tested their germination rates and timing in a greenhouse experiment in ***,we conducted an extra experiment in the United States using seeds collected in 2016 and 2017 to compare the effects of study sites(China *** States)and seed collection time(2016 vs.2017)on seed *** Findings Seeds from the introduced range germinated faster than those from the native *** and chemical measurements showed that seeds from the introduced range were larger,had higher GA concentrations and GA:ABA ratio,but lower crude fat concentrations compared to those from the native *** were no significant differences in seed mass,coat hardness and coat thickness or kernel ABA,soluble protein or sugar concentrations between seeds from introduced *** *** rates were correlated between United States and China greenhouses but germination rates for populations varied between collection *** results suggest that larger seeds and higher GA likely contribute to faster germination,potentially facilitating *** invasion in the introduced range.

柔性可穿戴传感器近年来引起了人们的极大兴趣,其在远程医疗、人工智能等领域有着极大的应用前景。其中柔性应变传感器作为一种可以将机械应变转变为电信号的电子设备,且具有较好的柔韧性和优越的拉伸性能和高灵敏度等特点,它们在电子皮肤(E-skin)、人机交互、人体运动监测中有着广泛的应用潜力。现如今有许多研究学者提出了许多制备柔性应变传感器的制备方法,然而它们普遍存在制备过程繁琐等特点,如何以较小的成本得到较高的灵敏度和高拉伸性能的柔性传感器依然存在挑战。在这项研究中,我们采用了一种简单易行的方法设计制备了一种基于石墨烯/Ecoflex复合材料的高拉伸应变传感器,其在人机交互上可以有着较好的应用前景。我们设计制造的应变传感器表面上的皱纹和突起可以吸附大量的导电材料,从而提高了传感器的导电能力和实现较高的灵敏度。该柔性应变传感器能够承受出色的拉伸性(高达500%)以及高灵敏度(GF=904.6)以及较快的响应速度。此外,我们通过可穿戴的智能手套控制机器人手臂,来展示柔性应变传感器的性能。我们可以通过在每个手指位置(大拇指,食指,中指,无名指和小拇指)上安装柔性应变传感器来制备智能手套,实现通过不同的手势来控制机器手的动作。该智能手套能够通过手势从远处无线控制机械臂,以切断爆炸线,使用机器人照顾伤病患者,并在危险地区进行各种人类救援活动。因此,基于石墨烯/ecoflex复合材料制造的柔性应变传感器可以在许多领域(如环境监测,个人医疗保健和人机交互)中显示出非凡的潜在应用。

The Correlation between N-Terminal Pro-Brain Natriuretic Peptide and Diastolic Function in Asymptomatic Patients at Risk of Developing Heart Failure

Objective: to identify the correlation between N-terminal pro-brainnatriuretic peptide （NT-proBNP） with diastolic function in asymptomaticpatients at risk of developing heart failure, and the role of NT-proBNP inidentifying diastolic dysfunction. Methods: eighty patients （age45–70years） were selected based onhistory of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and coronary artery *** with at least one risk factor for HF were selected in this *** were enrolled in this study from January to July2011in FirstAffiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University. Left ventricular （LV）diastolic function was measured by conventional Doppler and TissueDoppler imaging （TDI） echocardiography of mitral annulus. PlasmaNT-proBNP concentration was measured by immunoassay. Results: There were36men and44women in this study. The mean age ofpatients was58.8years old. Hypertension was present in78/80patients（97.5%）;diabetes in32/80patients （40%）;and coronary artery disease in 25/80（31.3%）. In transmitral pulsed-wave Doppler velocity measurement,there was no significant difference of NT-proBNP between normal andimpaired relaxation （mild diastolic dysfunction）. Patients withpseudonormal filling （262.2±55.63pg/ml） and restrictive like pattern（781.5±152pg/ml） had significantly higher NT-proBNP level （p＜0.0005）.In TDI measurement, patients were grouped into3groups based on E/E’ratio ＜8（group1）, E/E’ ratio8-15（group2）, E/E’ ratio＞15（group3）. TheNT-proBNP level in group1was47.54±34.08pg/ml, group2was94.98±78.88pg/ml, and group3was781.5±152pg/ml. There was goodcorrelation between NT-proBNP and E/E’lateral （r=063;p＜0.0005）. Conclusion: NT-proBNP level increases as left ventricular diastolicfunction decreases, and there was good correlation between NT-proBNPwith E/E’ ratio. Patient with moderate-severe diastolic dysfunction hadhigher NT-proBNP level. NT-proBNP cannot be used for identification ofmild diastolic dysfunction in patient at risk of developing heart failure.

CGR3： A Golgi-Localized Protein Influencing Homogalacturonan Methylesterification

Plant cell walls are complex structures that offer structural and mechanical support to plant cells and are ultimately responsible for plant architecture and form. Pectins are a large group of complex polysaccharides of the plant cell wall that are made in the Golgi and secreted to the wall. The methylesterification of pectins is believed to be an important factor for the dynamic properties of the cell wall. Here, we report on a protein of unknown function discovered using an extensive proteomics analysis of cotton Golgi. Through bioinformatic analyses, we identified the ortholog of such protein, here named cotton Golgi-related 3 （CGR3） in Arabidopsis and found that it shares conserved residues with S- adenosylmethionine methyltransferases. We established that CGR3 is localized at the Golgi apparatus and that the expression of the CGR3 gene is correlated with that of several cell wall biosynthetic genes, suggesting a possible role of the protein in pectin modifications. Consistent with this hypothesis, immunofluorescence microscopy with antibodies for homogalacturonan pectins （HG） indicated that the celt wails of cgr3 knockout mutants and plants overexpressing CGR3 are decreased and increased in HG methylesterification, respectively. Our results suggest that CGR3 plays a role in the methylesterification of homogalacturonan in Arabidopsis.

Soil Respiration and Litter Decomposition Increased Following Perennial Forb Invasion into an Annual Grassland

Exotic plant invasions may alter ecosystem carbon processes, especially when native plants are displaced by plants of a different functional group. Forb invasions into grasslands are common, yet little is known about how they impact carbon cycling. We conducted a field study over 2 years from April 2010 to March 2012 in China to examine changes in soil respiration （Rsoil） following invasion of exotic perennial forb species （Alternanthera philoxeroides or Solidago canadensis） into an annual grassland dominated by a native annual graminoid （Eragrostis pilosa）. Measurements of Rsoil were taken once a week in stands of the native annual graminoid or one of the forb species using static chamber-gas chromatograph method. Aboveground litterfall of each of the three focal species was collected biweekly and litter decomposition rates were measured in a 6-month litterbag experiment. The monthly average and annual cumulative Rsoil increased following invasion by either forb species. The increases in cumulative Rsoil were smaller with invasion of Solidago （36%） than Alternanthera （65%）. Both invasive forbs were associated with higher litter quantity and quality （e.g., C：N ratio） than the native annum graminoid. Compared to the native annual graminoid, the invasive forbs Altevnanthera （155%） and Solidago （361%） produced larger amounts of more rapidly decomposing litter, with the litter decay constant k being 3.8, 2.0 and 1.0 for Alternanthera, Solidago and Eragrostis, respectively. Functional groups of the invasive plants and the native plants they replaced appear to be useful predictors of directions of changes in Rsoil, but the magnitude of changes in Rsoil seems to be sensitive to variations in invader functional traits.
