The effects of sedimentation reduction at the Nakdong River Estuary Barrage(NREB) in Korea were quantitatively analyzed with respect to different sediment control methods using the calibrated and validated two-dimensional *** countermeasures of sediment dredging,sediment flushing,channel geometry change,and a combination of flushing and channel geometry change were examined for the approach channel of the *** flood event and channel geometries of the 3.8 km section upstream of the NREB surveyed before and after dredging in 2007 were used for modeling *** a result,the half of sediments dredged in 2007 could be eliminated naturally by floods without *** numerical simulation of sediment flushing indicated that the deposition height decreased in the entire simulation section with the minimum and maximum reductions from 0.3 in to1.3 m in deposition *** channel contraction method produced quantitatively the largest amount of sedimentation reduction and sediment flushing and dredging *** reduction by a combination of flushing and channel contraction was up 10%compared to the individual method of channel contraction.

This study investigated the flow characteristics altered by jang Bogo Antarctic Research Station using computational fluid dynamics(CFD) modeling. The topography and buildings around jang Bogo Station were constructed with computeraided-design data in the CFD model domain. We simulated 16 cases with different inflow directions, and compared the flow characteristics with and without jang Bogo Station for each inflow direction. The wind data recorded by the site’s automatic weather station(AWS) were used for comparison. Wind rose analysis showed that the wind speed and direction after the construction of jang Bogo Station were quite different from those before construction. We also investigated how virtual wind fences would modify the flow patterns, changing the distance of the fence from the station as well as the porosity of the fence. For westerly inflows, when the AWS was downwind of jang Bogo Station, the decrease in wind speed was maximized(-81% for west-northwesterly). The wind speed reduction was also greater as the distance of the fence was closer to jang Bogo Station. With the same distance, the fence with medium porosity(25%–33%) maximized the wind speed *** results suggest that the location and material of the wind fence should be selected carefully, or AWS data should be interpreted cautiously, for particular prevailing wind directions.

BACKGROUND Food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome(FPIES)is the most serious type of non-immunoglobulin E(IgE)-mediated food allergic reaction manifesting as sepsis-like symptom,which can lead to *** boulardii(***),a probiotic prescribed frequently in clinical settings,has been reported to trigger FPIES in an infant with soy-triggered *** this report,we describe a new clinical FPIES in which *** was the sole triggering factor of acute FPIES adverse reaction in seven healthy *** SUMMARY Seven FPIES cases triggered by only *** were gathered from 2011 to the *** of the patients had previously experienced any allergic reaction to cow’s milk,soy,or complementary *** age of the patients was 4-10-months old,and the symptoms of FPIES developed after ingestion of ***,which is mostly prescribed for the treatment of gastroenteritis or antibiotic-associated *** patients experienced severe repetitive vomiting 1-3 hours after *** *** lethargy,marked pallor,and cyanosis were also *** IgE-mediated hypersensitivity developed in any *** was followed by initial intense vomiting in approximately 5-10 hours after *** ingestion,and only one case showed bloody,purulent,and foul-smelling *** patients stabilized quickly,mostly within 6 *** got all improved within 24 hours after discontinuation of *** *** can be the sole trigger of acute FPIES and be prescribed cautiously even in healthy children without FPIES.

The Rare Isotope Science Project (RISP) is a research complex consisting of a heavy-ion accelerator, which contains a front-end system, a super-conducting linear accelerator, an isotope separator online (ISOL) system, and an in-flight system. The original purpose of the post-linear-accelerator (post-linac) section was to accelerate either a stable driver beam derived from an electron cyclotron resonance ion source, or an unstable rare-isotope beam from an ISOL system. The post-linac lattice has now been redesigned using a novel and improved acceleration concept that allows the simultaneous acceleration of both a stable driver beam and a radioisotope beam. To achieve this, the post-linac lattice is set for a mass-to-charge ratio (A/q) that is the average of the two beams. The performance of this simultaneous two-beam acceleration is here assessed using two ion beams: 58Ni^8+ and 132Sn^20+. A beam dynamics simulation was performed using the TRACK and TraceWin codes. The resultant beam dynamics for the new RISP post-linac lattice design are examined. We also estimate the effects of machine errors and their correction on the post-linac lattice.

Red ginseng is a well-known alternative medicine with anti-inflammatory *** exerts pharmacological effects through the transformation of saponin into metabolites by intestinal *** that intestinal microflora vary among individuals,the pharmacological effects of red ginseng likely vary among *** order to produce homogeneously effective red ginseng,we prepared probiotic-fermented red ginseng and evaluated its activity using a dextran sulfate sodium(DSS)-induced colitis model in *** analysis of intestinal damage indicated that the administration of probiotic-fermented red ginseng significantly decreased the severity of colitis,compared with the control and the activity was higher than that induced by oral administration of ginseng powder or probiotics *** analysis of the levels of serum IL-6 and TNF-α,inflammatory biomarkers that are increased at the initiation stage of colitis,were significantly decreased in probiotic-fermented red ginseng-treated groups in comparison to the control *** levels of inflammatory cytokines and mR NAs for inflammatory factors in colorectal tissues were also significantly decreased in probiotic-fermented red ginseng-treated ***,oral administration of probiotic-fermented red ginseng reduced the severity of colitis in a mouse model,suggesting that it can be used as a uniformly effective red ginseng product.

One-dimensional alkali metal titanates containing potassium,sodium,and lithium are of great concern owing to their high ion mobility and high specific surface *** those titanates are combined with conductive materials such as graphene,carbon nanotube,and carbon nanofiber,they are able to be employed as efficient electrode materials for *** hexa-titanate(K2Ti6O13,KTO),in particular,has shown superior electrochemical properties compared to other alkali metal titanates because of their large lattice parameters induced by the large radius of potassium ***,we present porous rGO crumples(PGC)decorated with KTO nanoparticles(NPs)for application to *** KTO NP/PGC composites were synthesized by aerosol spray pyrolysis and post-heat *** NPs less than 10 nm in diameter were loaded onto PGCs ranging from 3 to 5μ*** porous structure of the composites was obtained by the activation of rGO by adding an excessive amount of KOH to the *** KTO NP/PGC composite electrodes fabricated at the GO/KOH/TiO2 ratio of 1:3:0.25 showed the highest performance(275 F g−1)in capacitance with different KOH concentrations and cycling stability(83%)after 2000 cycles at a current density of 1 A g−1.

Purpose:Cancer cell metastasis is a multistep process,and the mechanism underlying extravasation remains ***3 is a transcription factor that plays a crucial role in regulating various cellular processes,including cancer *** on the finding that ELK3 promotes the metastasis of triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC),we investigated whether ELK3 regulates the extravasation of TNBC by forming the ELK3-ID4 ***4 functions as a transcriptional regulator that interacts with other transcription factors,inhibiting their activity and subsequently influencing various biological processes associated with cell differentiation,survival,growth,and ***:We assessed the correlation between the expression of ELK3 and that of ID4 in TNBCs using bioinformatics analyses,QRT-PCR,western blot analysis,luciferase reporter assays,and chromatin ***,adhesion,invasion,and lung metastasis assays were employed to determine whether the ELK3-ID4 axis regulates the metastatic features of ***:We found that ELK3 binds directly to a binding motif close to the ID4 promoter to repress promoter *** expression of E-cadherin in TNBC was regulated by the ELK3-ID4 *** vitro and in vivo analyses showed that inhibiting ID4 expression in ELK3-knockdown MDA-MB-231(ELK3KD)cells restored the ability to extravasate and ***:The results indicate that the ELK3 regulates ID4 promoter activity,and that the ELK3-ID4 axis regulates the metastatic characteristics of TNBC ***,the data suggest that the ELK3-ID4 axis regulates metastasis of TNBCs by modulating expression of E-cadherin.

Expression of a High Mobility Group Protein Isolated from Cucumis sativus Affects the Germination of Arabidopsis thaliana under Abiotic Stress Conditions

Although high mobility group B （HMGB） proteins have been identified from a variety of plant species, their importance and functional roles in plant responses to changing environmental conditions are largely unknown. Here, we investigated the functional roles of a CsHMGB isolated from cucumber （Cucumis sativus L.） in plant responses to environmental stimuli. Under normal growth conditions or when subjected to cold stress, no differences in plant growth were found between the wild-type and transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana overexpressing CsHMGB. By contrast, the transgenic Arabidopsis plants displayed retarded germination compared with the wild-type plants when grown under high salt or dehydration stress conditions. Germination of the transgenic plants was delayed by the addition of abscisic acid （ABA）, implying that CsHMGB affects germination through an ABA-dependent way. The expression of CsHMGB had affected only the germination stage, and CsHMGB did not affect the seedling growth of the transgenic plants under the stress conditions. The transcript levels of several germination-responsive genes were modulated by the expression of CsHMGB in Arabidopsis. Taken together, these results suggest that ectopic expression of a CsHMGB in Arabidopsis modulates the expression of several germinationresponsive genes, and thereby affects the germination of Arabidopsis plants under different stress conditions.

When aWindows-based system is used for an exceedingly long time,its performance degrades,and the error occurrence rate tends to *** is generally called system *** investigate the reasons for system aging,various studies have been conducted within the range of the operating system kernel to the user ***,finding an accurate reason for system performance degradation remains challenging research *** this study,system monitoring was conducted by dividing a system into‘before software installation,’‘after software installation,’and‘after software removal.’We confirmed that when a software installed in a system is removed,various system elements,such as storage and memory,are not restored to the level prior to the software ***,we established a hypothesis regarding the performance degradation of a computer system owing to repeated software installation/removal operations,investigated the correlation between system aging and repeated software installation/removal operations,and proposed a system aging analysis framework for analyzing the reason behind system *** the proposed system aging analysis framework,we aim to forcibly age a Windows-based system by repeating the software installation/removal operation by utilizing the system forced aging *** framework identifies the elements affecting system performance through a differential data analysis of the system time-series data extracted by the system performance extraction and system component snapshot ***,the aging analysis framework presented in this study is expected to be effectively utilized as an index for studying system aging.
