Is the AIM65 score useful in predicting outcomes in peptic ulcer bleeding?

AIM:To evaluate the applicability of AIMS65 scores in predicting outcomes of peptic ulcer ***:This was a retrospective study in a single center between January 2006 and December *** enrolled 522 patients with upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage who visited the emergency *** patients were regarded as those who had rebleeding within 30 d from the first endoscopy as well as those who died within 30 d of visiting the Emergency room.A total of 149 patients with peptic ulcer bleeding were analysed,and the AIMS65 score was used to retrospectively predict the high-risk ***:A total of 149 patients with peptic ulcer bleeding were *** poor outcome group comprised 28 patients[male:23(82.1%)vs female:5(10.7%)]while the good outcome group included 121patients[male:93(76.9%)vs female:28(23.1%)].The mean age in each group was not significantly *** mean serum albumin levels in the poor outcome group were slightly lower than those in the good outcome group(P=0.072).For the prediction of poor outcome,the AIMS65 score had a sensitivity of35.5%(95%CI:27.0-44.8)and a specificity of 82.1%(95%CI:63.1-93.9)at a score of *** AIMS65 score was insufficient for predicting outcomes in peptic ulcer bleeding(area under curve=0.571;95%CI:0.49-0.65).CONCLUSION:The AIMS65 score may therefore not be suitable for predicting clinical outcomes in peptic ulcer *** albumin levels may be a risk factor associated with high mortality in peptic ulcer bleeding.

Recently,with the normalization of non-face-to-face online environments in response to the COVID-19 pandemic,the possibility of cyberattacks through endpoints has *** endpoint devices are managed meticulously to prevent cyberattacks and ensure timely responses to potential security *** particular,because telecommuting,telemedicine,and teleeducation are implemented in uncontrolled environments,attackers typically target vulnerable endpoints to acquire administrator rights or steal authentication information,and reports of endpoint attacks have been increasing *** persistent threats(APTs)using various novel variant malicious codes are a form of a sophisticated ***,conventional commercial antivirus and anti-malware systems that use signature-based attack detectionmethods cannot satisfactorily respond to such *** this paper,we propose a method that expands the detection coverage inAPT attack *** this model,an open-source threat detector and log collector are used synergistically to improve threat detection *** the scope of attack log collection through interworking between highly accessible open-source tools can efficiently increase the detection coverage of tactics and techniques used to deal with APT attacks,as defined by MITRE Adversarial Tactics,Techniques,and Common Knowledge(ATT&CK).We implemented an attack environment using an APT attack scenario emulator called Carbanak and analyzed the detection coverage of Google Rapid Response(GRR),an open-source threat detection tool,and Graylog,an open-source log *** proposed method expanded the detection coverage against MITRE ATT&CK by approximately 11%compared with that conventional methods.

Background: Although current research supports the use of active video games(AVGs) in rehabilitation, the evidence has yet to be systematically reviewed or synthesized. The current project systematically reviewed literature, summarized findings, and evaluated the effectiveness of AVGs as a therapeutic tool in improving physical, psychological, and cognitive rehabilitative outcomes among older adults with chronic ***: Seven databases(Academic Search Complete, Communication & Mass Media Complete, ERIC, Psyc INFO, Pub Med, SPORTDiscus,and Medline) were searched for studies that evaluated the effectiveness of AVG-based rehabilitation among older patients. The initial search yielded 946 articles; after evaluating against inclusion criteria and removing duplicates, 19 studies of AVG-based rehabilitation ***: Most studies were quasi-experimental in design, with physical functioning the primary outcome investigated with regard to the use of AVGs in rehabilitation. Overall, 9 studies found significant improvements for all study outcomes, whereas 9 studies were mixed, with significant improvements on several study outcomes but no effects observed on other outcomes after AVG-based treatments. One study failed to find any benefits of AVG-based ***: Findings indicate AVGs have potential in rehabilitation for older patients, with several randomized clinical trials reporting positive effects on rehabilitative outcomes. However, existing evidence is insufficient to support the advantages of AVGs over standard therapy. Given the limited number of studies and concerns with study design quality, more research is warranted to make more definitive conclusions regarding the ability of AVGs to improve rehabilitative outcomes in older patients.

Korean freshwater snails of the genus Semisulcospira are widely distributed across East *** has been a very popular nutritional food in Korea,and is an ecologically important water quality indicator because it lives only in clean ***,no microsatellite markers have been generated to study the population genetic diversity of this *** the present study,we developed and characterized 18 novel microsatellite loci from Semisulcospira coreana genomic *** microsatellites were isolated using 454 GS-FLX titanium sequencing and 18 markers were used for genotyping in *** addition,we also tested the cross-species transferability of the microsatellite markers in four additional Semisulcospira *** identified 18 polymorphic loci and the number of alleles per loci,and their polymorphism information content values ranged from 2 to 17 and 0.203 to 0.902,*** observed and expected heterozygosities of the loci ranged from 0.063 to 0.924 and 0.226 to 0.924,*** to the analysis of the cross-species transferability of these markers,four species,***,***,***,and ***,showed a very high transferability(80%–85%).These results show that this set of nuclear markers could be useful for population genetics studies of this species and closely related species.

A bstract The venerid clam(M actra veneriformis Reeve 1854) is one of the main cultured bivalve species in intertidal and shallow subtidal ecosystems along the west coast of Korea. To understand the effects of ocean acidifi cation on the early life stages of Korean clams, we investigated shell growth and abnormality rates and types in the D-shaped, umbonate veliger, and pediveliger stages of the venerid clam M. veneriformis during exposure to elevated seawater pCO_2. In particular, we examined abnormal types of larval shell morphology categorized as shell deformations, shell distortions, and shell fi ssures. Specimens were incubated in seawater equilibrated with bubbled CO_2-enriched air at(400±25)×10^(-6)(ambient control),(800±25)×10^(-6)(high pCO_2), or(1 200±28)×10^(-6)(extremely high pCO_2), the atmospheric CO_2 concentrations predicted for the years 2014, 2084, and 2154(70-year intervals; two human generations), respectively, in the Representative Concentration Pathway(RCP) 8.5 scenario. The mean shell lengths of larvae were signifi cantly decreased in the high and extremely high pCO_2 groups compared with the ambient control groups. Furthermore, under high and extremely high pCO_2 conditions, the cultures exhibited signifi cantly increased abundances of abnormal larvae and increased severity of abnormalities compared with the ambient control. In the umbonate veliger stage of the experimental larvae, the most common abnormalities were shell deformations, distortions, and fi ssures; on the other hand, convex hinges and mantle protuberances were absent. These results suggest that elevated CO_2 exerts an additional burden on the health of M. veneriformis larvae by impairing early development.

To the Editor： A 76-year-old woman presented with palpable masses in her right breast and right forearm. Physical examination revealed a 5-cm-sized mass in the lower outer quadrant of the right breast and a hard, fixed mass, measuring 4 cm in the right forearm. Mammography revealed a round, obscured, hyperdense mass without microcalcifications.

Introduction A xanthoma is a benign lesion consisting of foamy cells characterized by a highly vacuolated *** lesions can develop anywhere in the gastrointestinal tract but most often occur in the stomach,duodenum,or esophagus and very rarely in the colon[1].Gastric xanthoma shows a high incidence in gastric cancer patients and is reportedly an independent predictor of gastric cancer[2].Although adenomas associated with colorectal xanthoma were first reported in 1997,clear evidence supporting an association between xanthoma and colorectal adenoma or cancer is lacking[3].Furthermore,the association between adenoma and lipid deposits is unproven,and although adenoma has been found adjacent to or around xanthoma,this is more likely coincidental.

Introduction:Although an association between metabolic dysfunctionassociated fatty liver disease(MAFLD)and cardiovascular disease or overall mortality has been reported,it is unclearwhether there is an association between MAFLD and cancer incidence or *** aimed to investigate the differential risk of all-and site-specific cancer incidence and mortality according to MAFLD subgroups categorized by additional etiologies of liver ***:Using the Korean National Health Insurance Service database,we stratified the participants into three groups:(1)single-etiology MAFLD(SMAFLD)or MAFLD of pure metabolic origin;(2)mixed-etiology MAFLD(M-MAFLD)or MAFLD with additional etiological factor(s)(i.e.,concomitant liver diseases and/or heavy alcohol consumption);and(3)*** steatosis and fibrosiswere defined using the fatty liver index and the BARDscore,*** proportional hazards regression was performed to estimate the risk of cancer ***:Among the 9,718,182 participants,the prevalence of S-MAFLD and M-MAFLD was 29.2%and 6.7%,*** the median 8.3 years of follow-up,510,330(5.3%)individuals were newly diagnosed with cancer,and 122,774(1.3%)cancer-related deaths occurred among the entire *** with the non-MAFLD group,the risk of all-cancer incidence and mortality was slightly higher among patients in the S-MAFLD group(incidence,adjusted hazard ratio[aHR]=1.03;95%confidence interval[CI]:1.02−1.04;mortality,aHR=1.06;95%CI:1.04−1.08)and highest among patients with M-MAFLD group(incidence,aHR=1.31;95%CI:1.29−1.32;mortality,aHR=1.45;95%CI:1.42−1.48,respectively).The M-MAFLD with fibrosis group(BARD score≥2)showed the highest relative risk of all-cancer incidence(aHR=1.38,95%CI=1.36–1.39),followed by the M-MAFLD without fibrosis group(aHR=1.09,95%CI=1.06–1.11).Similar trends were observed for cancer-related ***:MAFLD classification,by applying additional etiologies other than pure metabolic origi

Fe3O4:SiO2 nanocomposite powders were synthesized by a two-step process,which included the precipitation of FeCl2 and FeCl3 and the gelation of silicic acid solution derived from water *** first,Fe3O4 nanoparticles having a crystallite size of 20 nm were obtained by controlling the ratio of Fe(II) and Fe(III) *** the second step,Fe3O4 particles were embedded in SiO2 matrix by the hydrolysis and subsequent condensation of the silicic acid solution containing Fe3O4 *** was found that the Fe3O4 nanoparticles homogenously disperse in the SiO2 *** Fe3O4:SiO2 nanocomposite exhibited an enhanced thermal stability against oxidation compared with pure ***-IR analysis indicates the presence of the Si-O-Fe bond in the Fe3O4:SiO2 (1:10,mole fraction) nanocomposite.
