Introduction: Urethral erosion is a known complication of artificial urinary sphincter(AUS) surgery. We performed an in-situ urethroplasty(ISU) to reduce the healing time and time to reimplantation of the AUS. We sought to assess urethral integrity one month after ISU and to identify factors associated with delayed healing in our high-volume tertiary referral center ***: A retrospective review of our AUS database from 2009 to 2023 was conducted to identify all ISU cases. Patients were stratified as healed or nonhealed based on the absence of extravasation on voiding cystourethrogram(VCUG) obtained 4 weeks postoperatively. Background characteristics were evaluated including age, body mass index, diabetes, hypogonadism and smoking history. Operative variables included degree of erosion, location of defect, and the number of stitches required for ***: Among 98 patients undergoing an ISU, 61 underwent VCUG at one month. Of these, 34.4%(21/61) had evidence of delayed healing on VCUG requiring prolonged catheterization. Although a higher average number of repair sutures were used in ISU, this was not significant(p = 0.381). The most common complication in both groups was urinary tract infection(UTI). Nonhealed patients had a higher rate of UTI, without significant predilection towards fistula, stricture or diverticulum. No other patient or operative characteristic was significantly different between ***: Despite an aggressive approach to management via ISU, many patients still require prolonged catheterization after AUS erosion to ensure complete healing of the defect.

This paper presents an approach to recursively estimate the simplest linear model that approximates the time-varying local behaviors from imperfect(noisy and incomplete) measurements in the internet of things(IoT) based distributed decision-making problems. We first show that the problem of finding the lowest order model for a multi-input single-output system is a cardinality(l0) optimization problem, known to be *** solve the problem a simpler approach is proposed which uses the recently developed atomic norm concept and the modified Frank-Wolfe(mFW) algorithm is introduced. Further, the paper computes the minimum data-rate required for computing the models with imperfect measurements. The proposed approach is illustrated on a building heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning(HVAC) control system that aims at optimizing energy consumption in commercial buildings using IoT devices in a distributed manner. The HVAC control application requires recursive thermal dynamical model updates due to frequently changing conditions and non-linear dynamics. We show that the method proposed in this paper can approximate such complex dynamics on single-board computers interfaced to sensors using unreliable communication channels. Real-time experiments on HVAC systems and simulation studies are used to illustrate the proposed method.

Purpose:The purposes of the present study were:(1)to determine whether the physical working capacity at the fatigue threshold(PWCFT)model that has been used for estimating the onset of neuromuscular fatigue in the vastus lateralis(Vl)during incremental treadmill running could also be applied to the vastus medialis(VM),biceps femoris(BF),and semitendinosus(ST)muscles;and(2)if applicable,to compare the running velocities associated with the PWCFT among these ***:Eleven subjects(age 21.7±1.8 years)performed an incremental treadmill test to exhaustion with electromyographic signals recorded from the Vl,VM,BF,and ***:The results indicated there were no significant(p>0.05)mean differences in the running velocities associated with the PWCFT for the Vl(14.4±2.0 km/h),VM(14.3±1.9 km/h),BF(13.8±1.8 km/h),and ST(14.7±2.3 km/h).In addition,there were significant inter-correlations(r=0.68-0.88)among running velocities associated with the PWCFT of each *** results also indicated that 9 of the 11 subjects exhibited identical PWCFT values for at least 3 of the 4 muscles,but there were no uniform patterns for any intra-individual ***:The findings of the present study suggested that the PWCFT test is a viable method to identify neuromuscular fatigue in the quadriceps and hamstrings during incremental treadmill exercise and results in consistent PWCFT values among these muscles.

Citrate based polymer poly(octamethylene citrate)(POC)has shown promise when formulated into composite material containing up to 65 wt%hydroxylapatite(HA)for orthopedic *** significant research into POC,insufficient information about the biocompatibility of the monomers 1,8-Octanediol and Citrate used in its synthesis is ***,we investigated the acute cytotoxicity,immune response,and long-term functionality of both *** results showed a cell-type dependent cytotoxicity of the two monomers:1,8-Octanediol induced less acute toxicity to 3T3 fibroblasts than Citrate while presenting comparable cytotoxicity to MG63 osteoblast-like cells;however,Citrate demonstrated enhanced compatibility with hMSCs compared to 1,*** critical cytotoxic concentration values EC30 and EC50,standard for comparing cytotoxicity of chemicals,were also ***,Citrate showed slower and less inhibitory effects on long-term hMSC cell proliferation compared with 1,***,osteogenic differentiation of hMSCs exposure to Citrate resulted in less inhibitory effect on alkaline phosphatase(AlP)*** monomer triggered undesired pro-inflammatory *** combination with diffusion model analysis of monomer release from cylindrical implants,based on which the maximum concentration of monomers in contact with bone tissue was estimated to be 2.2104 mmol/l,far lower than the critical cytotoxic concentrations as well as the 1,8-Octanediol concentration(0.4 mg/ml or 2.7 mmol/l)affecting hMSCs differentiation,we provide strong evidence for the cytocompatibility of the two monomers degraded from citrate-based composites in the orthopedic setting.

Many species exhibit color polymorphisms which have distinct physiological and behavioral ***,the consistency of morph trait covariation patterns across species,time,and ecological contexts remains *** trait covariation is especially relevant in the context of invasion biology and urban ***,physiological traits pertaining to energy maintenance are crucial to fitness,given their immediate ties to individual reproduction,growth,and population *** investigated the physiological traits of Podarcis muralis,a versatile color polymorphic species that thrives in urban environments(including invasive populations in Ohio,USA).We measured five physiological traits(plasma corticosterone and triglycerides,hematocrit,body condition,and field body temperature),which compose an integrated multivariate *** then tested variation among co-occurring color morphs in the context of establishment in an urban *** found that the traits describing physiological status and strategy shifted across the active season in a morph-dependent manner—the white and yellow morphs exhibited clearly different multivariate physiological phenotypes,characterized primarily by differences in plasma *** suggests that morphs have different strategies in physiological regulation,the flexibility of which is crucial to urban *** white-yellow morph exhibited an intermediate phenotype,suggesting an intermediary energy maintenance *** morphs also exhibited distinct phenotypes,but the low prevalence of this morph in our study populations precludes clear *** work provides insight into how differences among stable polymorphisms exist across axes of the phenotype and how this variation may aid in establishment within novel environments.
