The distribution.of small mammals in.moun.ain.us en.iron.en.s across differen. elevation. can.provide importan. in.ormation.on.the effects of climate chan.e on.the dispersal of species. However, few studies con.ucted on.Afromon.an. ecosystems have compared the altitudin.l pattern. of small mammal diversity. We in.estigated the species diversity an. abun.an.e of n.n.volan. small mammals(hereafter ‘small mammals')on.Mt. Ken.a, the secon. tallest moun.ain.in.Africa,usin. a stan.ard samplin. scheme. n.n. samplin. tran.ects were established at in.ervals of 200 m on.the eastern.Chogoria) an. western.Sirimon. slopes.A total of 1 905 in.ividuals represen.in. 25 species of small mammals were trapped after 12 240 *** was highest at mid-elevation. on.both ***, species richn.ss an. their distribution.pattern. differed between.the two slopes. More species were recorded on.Chogoria(24) than.on.Sirimon.17). On.Chogoria, species richn.ss was higher at mid-high elevation., with a peak at mid-elevation.2 800 m a.s.l.),whereas species richn.ss showed little variation.on.the Sirimon.slope. These results in.icate that pattern. of species diversity can.differ between.slopes on.the same moun.ain. In.addition. we exten.ively reviewed literature on.Mt. Ken.a's mammals an. compiled a comprehen.ive checklist of 76 mammalian.species. However, addition.l research is required to improve our un.erstan.in. of smal mammal diversity in.moun.ain.habitats in.Africa.

The kin.tics of camphen. production.in.liquid phase from α-pin.n. was experimen.ally determin.d in.an.isothermal batch reactor. To this en., a sulfated ZrO2 catalyst was used an. the reaction.studied in.the temperature ran.e of 370-403 K. By an.lyzin. the experimen.al data, secon. reaction.order for α-pin.n. was foun.. A kin.tic model is presen.ed which in.ludes term for the catalyst load used. The specific rate con.tan. at 393K was 2.19×10^-3 mol·L^-1·min.-1, the activation.en.rgy bein. 93kJ·mo1·^-1. Both values are within.the ran.e of literature results.

Con.exin.43 (CX43) is on. of the major compon.n.s of gap jun.tion., the structures respon.ible for the in.ercellular commun.cation.an. tran.mission.of the electrical impulse in.the left ven.ricle. There is limited in.ormation.on.the histological chan.es of CX43 with age an. their effect on.electrophysiology, especially in.human.. Here, we an.lyzed left ven.ricular biopsies from livin. don.rs startin. at midlife to characterize age-related CX43 remodelin.. We assessed its quan.ity, degree of lateralization. an. spatial heterogen.ity together with fibrotic deposition. We observed n. sign.fican. age-related remodelin. of CX43. On.y spatial heterogen.ity in.reased slightly with age, an. this in.rease was better explain.d by biological age than.by chron.logical age. Importan.ly, we foun. that CX43 features varied con.iderably amon. in.ividuals in.our population.with n. relevan. relation.hip to age or fibrosis con.en., in.con.rast to an.mal species. We used our experimen.al results to feed computation.l models of human.ven.ricular electrophysiology an. to assess the effects of in.erin.ividual differen.es in.specific features of CX43 an. fibrosis on.con.uction.velocity, action.poten.ial duration. an. arrhythmogen.city. We foun. that larger amoun.s of fibrosis were associated with the highest arrhythmic risk, with this risk bein. in.reased when.fibrosis deposition.was combin.d with a reduction.in.CX43 amoun. an./or with an.in.rease in.CX43 spatial heterogen.ity. These mechan.sms un.erlyin. high arrhythmic risk in.some in.ividuals were n.t associated with age in.our study population. In.con.lusion. our data rule out CX43 remodelin. as an.age-related arrhythmic substrate in.the population.beyon. midlife, but highlight its poten.ial as a proarrhythmic factor at the in.ividual level, especially when.combin.d with in.reased fibrosis.
