Cable bolts.are s.metimes.us.d in low-s.am coal mines.to provide s.pport in difficult ground *** paper des.ribes.cable bolting s.lutions.at two low-s.am coal mines.in s.milar ground *** mines.us.d s.pport s.s.ems.incorporating cable bolts.as.part of the primary s.pport *** original cable bolt bas.d s.pport s.s.ems.as.well as.two modified s.s.ems.are evaluated to es.imate their ability to prevent large roof falls. One of the s.pport s.s.ems.incorporated pas.ive cable bolts.while the other us.d pre-tens.oned cable bolts. The res.lts.and experience at the mines.s.owed that the modified s.s.ems.provided improved s.ability over the original s.pport s.s.ems. The pres.nce of the cable bolts.is.the mos. important contribution to s.ability agains. large roof falls.rather than the details.of the s.pport pattern. It was.als. found that a heavy s.eel channel can improve the s.fety of the s.s.em becaus. of the ‘s.ing' action it provides. Additionally,the analys.s.s.owed that fully-grouted rebar bolts.load much earlier than the cable bolts.and pre-tens.oning of the cable bolts.can res.lt in a more uniform dis.ribution of loading in the roof.

In this.paper,the advantage of us.ng numerical models.with the s.rength reduction method(s.M) to evaluate entry s.ability in complex multiple-s.am conditions.is.demons.rated.A coal mine under variable topography from the Central Appalachian region is.us.d as.a cas. *** this.mine,unexpected roof conditions.were encountered during development below previous.y mined *** mapping and obs.rvation of ground conditions.were us.d to quantify the s.cces. of entry s.pport s.s.ems.in three room-and-pillar *** model analys.s.were initially conducted to es.imate the s.res.es.induced by the multiple-s.am mining at the locations.of the affected *** s.M was.us.d to quantify the s.ability factor of the s.pported roof of the entries.at s.lected *** s.M-calculated s.ability factors.were compared with obs.rvations.made during the s.te vis.ts.and the res.lts.demons.rate that the s.M adequately identifies.the unexpected roof conditions.in this.complex *** is.concluded that the s.M can be us.d to effectively evaluate the likely s.cces. of roof s.pports.and the s.ability condition of entries.in coal mines.

Renewable res.urces.bas.d polymers.provides.a s.s.ainable alternative to petroleum derived polymeric *** a part of our s.ries.on s.nthes.s.of vanillin bas.d renewable polymers.we report the s.nthes.s.of poly(hydrovanilloin-furfural)[poly(HVL-Fur)]and poly(hydrovanilloin–5-hydromethylfurfural)[poly(HVL-5-HMF)].Vanillin was.dimerized to a mixtures.of mes./DL-hydrovanilloins.with 94%mes. product by electrochemical reductive coupling in aqueous.s.dium hydroxide us.ng lead electrodes.in quantitative *** s.dium hydroxide catalyzed condens.tion of hydrovanilloin with furfural in water at 80℃for 72 h was.us.d to s.nthes.ze poly(HVL-Fur)with Mw=8600 g mol^(−1),PDI=1.28 in 78%***,condens.tion of hydrovanilloin with 5-hydroxymethylfurfural at 80℃for 48 h produced poly(HVL-5-HMF)with Mw=12,100 g mol−1,PDI=1.27 in 68%***(HVL-Fur)and poly(HVL-5-HMF)s.owed s.milar Tg values.of 59℃and 60℃,res.ectively;whereas.melting behaviors.are dis.imilar with Tm 171℃–173℃and 148℃–182℃,res.ectively.

When expos.d to moderate to high temperatures.nanomaterials.typically s.ffer from s.vere grain coars.ning,which has.long been a major concern that prevents.their wider ***,we propos.d an effective s.rategy to inhibit grain coars.ning by cons.ructing grain boundary(GB)complexions.with multiple codoped dopants.which hindered coars.ning from both energetic and kinetic *** demons.rate the feas.bility of this.s.rategy,multiple s.lected dopants.were doped into a ZrO_(2)-s.O_(2)nanocrys.alline glas. ceramic(NCGC)to form GB *** res.lts.s.owed that NCGC was.predominantly compos.d of ZrO_(2)nanocrys.allites.NCs.dis.ributed in an amorphous.s.O_(2)*** layers.of GB complexions.~2.5 nm)were formed between adjacent ZrO_(2)NCs.and they were crys.alline s.pers.ructures.with co-s.gregated *** addition,a s.all amount of quartz s.lid s.lution was.formed,and it adhered to the periphery of ZrO_(2)NCs.and bridged the adjacent NCs.acting as.a“bridging phas.”.The GB complexions.and the“bridging phas.”s.nergis.ically enhanced the coars.ning res.s.ance of ZrO_(2)NCs.up to 1000°*** findings.are important for unders.anding GB complexions.and are expected to provide new ins.ghts.into the des.gn of nanomaterials.with excellent thermodynamic s.ability.
