Gastric cancer and liver cancer are among the most common malignancies and the leading causes of death worldwide,due to late detection and high recurrence ***,these cancers have a heavy socioeconomic burden,for which a full understanding of their pathophysiological features is warranted to search for promising biomarkers and therapeutic *** (OPN) is overexpressed in most patients with gastric and liver *** the past decade,emerging evidence has revealed a correlation of OPN level and clinicopathological features and prognosis in gastric and liver cancers,indicating its potential as an independent prognostic indicator in such *** studies have verified the potential of OPN knockdown as a therapeutic approach in vitro and in vivo .Furthermore,OPN mediates multifaceted roles in the interaction between cancer cells and the tumor microenvironment,in which many details need further *** signaling results in various functions,including prevention of apoptosis,modulation of angiogenesis,malfunction of tumor-associated macrophages,degradation of extracellular matrix,activation of phosphoinositide 3-kinase-Akt and nuclear factor-κB pathways,which lead to tumor formation and progression,particularly in gastric and liver *** editorial aims to review recent findings on alteration in OPN expression and its clinicopathological associations with tumor progression,its potential as a therapeutic target,and putative mechanisms in gastric and liver *** understanding of the implications of OPN in tumorigenesis might facilitate development of therapeutic regimens to benefit patients with these deadly malignancies.

Ternary Ni-Co-Fe oxyhydroxide oxygen evolution catalysts:Intrinsic activity trends,electrical conductivity,and electronic band structure

Nickel-,cobalt-,and iron-based(oxy)hydroxides comprise the most-commonly studied electrocatalysts for the oxygen-evolution reaction(OER)in alkaline solution.A fundamental understanding of composition-structure-activity relationships for mixed-metal Ni-Co and Ni-Co-Fe(oxy)hydroxides is important to guide the design of advanced OER *** we use cyclic voltammetry,chronopotentiometry,inductively-coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy,and in situ electrical conductivity measurements to characterize the properties and activity of various compositions of Ni-Co-Fe(oxy)hydroxides prepared by cathodic *** with previous studies,we find Fe is essential for the mixed-metal(oxy)hydroxides to achieve high OER *** the rigorous absence of Fe(achieved by using specially cleaned electrolytes),the most-active Ni-Co(oxy)hydroxide composition has an OER turn-over frequency only twice that ofpure Co(oxy)hydroxide,suggesting minimal synergism between the two *** addition of Co to Ni-Fe(oxy)hydroxides shifts the onset of electrical conductivity to lower potentials,but has little effect on the intrinsic OER activity,with the most-active Ni-Co-Fe(oxy)hydroxide having an OER turn-over frequency only -1.5 times that of the Ni-Fe(oxy)*** magnitudes of the electrical conductivities are similar for all the compositions ***-functional-theory-calculated projected density of states show a significant contribution of all chemical elements at the valence band edge of the mixed-metal oxyhydroxide electronic structure,demonstrating significant electronic hybridization between the *** calculations suggest the involvement of all the elements in modulating the electronic structure at putative Fe-based active sites that are probably located at edges or defects in the two-dimensional oxyhydroxide sheets.

A Real-World Perspective on Interfacility Transfers of Acute Ischemic Stroke from a Semi-Rural Center

Introduction: Interfacility transfers (IFT) of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) may not always lead to a better prognosis. Methods: Retrospective cohort study included AIS patients at an emergency department (ED) with telestroke. Multiple linear regression for departure time from ED (DT), quantile regression for length of in-hospital stay (LOS), and Kaplan-Meier estimator with Cox proportional hazards model for one-year survival (SV) were performed. Results: 192 patients included were categorised according to IFT. Mechanical thrombectomy was performed in 50% who had been transferred. Differences were found in DT, discharge disposition and LOS. An inverse relationship existed between DT and NIHSS. The strongest predictor of LOS was TACS (β = 3.14 [0.03 - 8.49];p = 0.005). SV was related to IFT (HR 4.68 [1.37 - 16.07];p = 0.014), age (HR 1.1 [1.04 - 1.17]), BI Conclusions: Shared decision-making with a stroke unit through telemedicine enabled a standardised clinical management in a non-metropolitan setting. Several improvement opportunities were identified: multimodal computed tomography availability before transfer, as well as optimization of response time and training in neurosonology of emergency physicians.

A non-traditional type of financial asset,cryptocurrencies based on public blockchains are still little understood in their real-world *** events such as cyber-attacks and their media coverage can strongly affect their supply and demand,adoption and usage,efficiency,and infrastructural development,thus influencing their price stability and market *** the great technical complexity of blockchains,we believe that a pure economic analysis of risks associated with cryptocurrencies is simply not sufficient to convey the relationships between attacks and the disruptive effects that these can bring on the operation of *** these grounds,we survey the most common types of attacks for Proof-of-Work(PoW)cryptocurrencies and evaluate their impact on the returns of a number of real-world cryptocurrencies for which market data are *** to data availability,our event study analysis focuses on instances of 51% attacks,hard forks,and wallet *** main goal of our analysis is to understand the relationship between technical events(cyber-attacks and coordinated user/miner behavior)and the economic impacts surrounding *** aim to develop a deeper understanding of these systems that are objects of great research interest in separate disciplines,supporting policymakers in their regulatory decisions concerning crypto-assets and associated cyber-related financial risks.

Genetic Screening of Halothane Gene on Selected Philippine Native Pig Herds

The establishment of nucleus herds (NHs) of Native Pigs (NPs) at various R&D stations in the Philippines is currently being undertaken for food security and genetic conservation advocacy. Marker-assisted selection (MAS) is being utilized to identify individuals carrying favorable alleles of genes associated with production traits and screen out genetic defects (GD) for breeding purposes. Porcine Stress Syndrome (PSS) caused by a mutation in Halothane (HAL) gene is a GD frequently found in commercial breeds that when expressed, causes pale, soft, exudative (PSE) meat. PSE is inferior quality meat undesirable in the market causing economic losses to the swine industry. Thus, this study was conducted to screen the HAL gene through mutagenically separated-polymerase chain reaction (MSPCR) in selected NP herds and assessed its repeatability in local breeds. Results showed that out of 577 screened individuals, 543 (94.11%) were normal (NN), 0 (0%) were homozygous mutant (nn) and 34 (5.89%) were heterozygous carriers (Nn). Therefore, the optimized PSS screening protocol using MSPCR is also applicable to local breeds. As such, the availability of genetic tests for PSS could be useful in improving the Philippine NPs breeding selection and inhibiting or eliminating PSS mutant incidence within its nucleus herd.

BACKGROUND Interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome(IC/BPS)is an at least 6-mo noninfectious bladder inflammation of unknown origin characterized by chronic suprapubic,abdominal,and/or pelvic *** the term cystitis suggests an inflammatory or infectious origin,no definite cause has been *** occurs in both sexes,but women are twice as much *** To systematically review evidence of psychiatric/psychological changes in persons with IC/*** Hypothesizing that particular psychological characteristics could underpin IC/BPS,we investigated in three databases the presence of psychiatric symptoms and/or disorders and/or psychological characteristics in patients with IC/BPS using the following strategy:("interstitial cystitis"OR"bladder pain syndrome")AND("mood disorder"OR depressive OR antidepressant OR depression OR depressed OR hyperthymic OR mania OR manic OR rapid cyclasterisk OR dysthymiasterisk OR dysphoriasterisk).RESULTS On September 27,2023,the PubMed search produced 223 articles,CINAHL 62,and the combined PsycLIT/PsycarTICLES/PsycINFO/Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection search *** on *** produced 14 studies,of which none had available *** were peer-reviewed articles reporting psychiatric/psychological symptoms in patients with IC/BPS,i.e.63 articles spanning from 2000 to October *** studies identified depression and anxiety problems in the IC/BPS population,along with sleep problems and the tendency to *** Psychotherapies targeting catastrophizing and life stress emotional awareness and expression reduced perceived pain in women with IC/*** concepts should be considered when implementing treatments aimed at reducing IC/BPS-related pain.

Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries(EAF)management is a concept aimed at the conservation and sustainable use of the entire *** EAF is a noble approach,its implementation has been *** Namibia has committed to the implementation of EAF,only limited assessment has been done of Namibian fisheries management processes and instruments concerning EAF.A qualitative assesment was done to ascertain if the Namibian fisheries management processes and instruments conform to the EAF *** fisheries management processes and instruments largely conform to the EAF principles,although there are notable areas needing *** conformities were pronounced in the total allowable catch setting,rebuilding depleted stocks,minimizing bycatch,and fishing impact *** polluter pays,and user pays principles were also *** that were found lacking in this study included setting the indicators for EAF and ecosystem *** assessment also noted the absence of guidelines for the precautionary approach principle and a transparent policy for quota and right allocation *** strategies for managing transboundary fish species are also not ***,this assessment showed the complexities and challenges that Namibia and other countries need to overcome to implement EAF successfully.

Practical handling skills during road transport of fattening pigs from farm to slaughterhouse: A brief review

The transport of fattening pigs is characterized by a strong human-animal interaction. Consequent handling is important because of animal welfare, meat quality and matching economic consequences. During road transport, human impact can be divided in different steps: 1) driving pigs from the pens via an alley to the trailer, 2) loading, 3) actual transport, 4) unloading to the lairage, and 5) the final phase driving pigs to the stunning. An inadequate design and a poor condition of the facilities will negatively affect the ease of handling pigs. Because of the consequences, acute stress during transport and slaughter should be minimized by acting on the education of people, on equipment and on preparation of animals for the journey. Education programs have to be repeated regularly so that knowledge can be refreshed.

Endoscopic Methods in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Pancreatic Cancer

Endoscopic methods are widely used in the diagnosis and palliative treatment of pancreatic cancer. The most sensitive method in early diagnosis is endosonography (EUS) which can also provide histological diagnosis. Diagnostic ERCP became a rather rare procedure as a consequence of wide availability of Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) but ERCP assisted intraductal methods have gained importance (brush-cytology, intraductal ultrasound, optical coherence tomography) and finally, peroral pancreatoscopy has become technically feasible but available only in some specialized centers. Minimally invasive endoscopic methods play an important role in the palliative treatment of unresectable pancreatic cancer which represents the majority of cases. EUS-guided histological confirmation of adenocarcinoma is crucial in the election of chemotherapy. Celiac plexus blockade and endoscopic biliary and pancreatic stent placement contribute to pain reduction, drainage of obstructed bile duct and assure a better quality of life.
