Pluripotent stem cells(PSCs)can be expanded in vitro in different culture conditions,resulting in a spectrum of cell states with distinct *** how PSCs transition from one state to another,ultimately leading to lineage-specific differentiation,is important for developmental biology and regenerative *** there is significant information regarding gene expression changes controlling these transitions,less is known about post-translational modifications of *** crotonylation is a newly discovered post-translational modification where lysine residues are modified with a crotonyl ***,we employed affinity purification of crotonylated(LC–MS/MS)to systematically profile protein crotonylation in mouse PSCs in different states including ground,metastable,and primed states,as well as metastable PSCs undergoing early pluripotency *** successfully identified 3628 high-confidence crotonylated sites in 1426 *** crotonylated proteins are enriched for factors involved in functions/processes related to pluripotency such as RNA biogenesis,central carbon metabolism,and proteasome ***,we found that increasing the cellular levels of crotonyl-coenzyme A(crotonyl-CoA)through crotonic acid treatment promotes proteasome activity in metastable PSCs and delays their differentiation,consistent with previous observations showing that enhanced proteasome activity helps to sustain *** atlas of protein crotonylation will be valuable for further studies of pluripotency regulation and may also provide insights into the role of metabolism in other cell fate transitions.

Offside Detection System Using an Infrared Camera Tracking System

This paper describes an experimental offside detection system that will be capable of detecting offside passes during a game of soccer. Soccer is the world’s most popular and most televised sport. In recent years, FIFA has implemented goal line technology in order to end controversial goals/missed goals during high profile competitive matches. The most contentious aspect of the sport is the offside rule and its many controversial calls or lack of calls. Sometimes the linesmen cannot see the passage of playing fast enough to make a correct decision. Being similar to goal line technology, people have requested offside technology to help the linesmen and to reduce the number of incorrect offside calls in a game. This paper describes a working offside detection system that can accurately detect offside passes. Positional data was exported from a VICON infrared motion tracking camera system and a MATLAB script was written so that it can analyze the positions of the players and the ball and determine if a pass was offside.

B cells play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of autoimmune *** previous studies have shown many genetic polymorphisms associated with B-cell activation in patients with various autoimmune disorders,progress in epigenetic research has revealed new mechanisms leading to B-cell *** mechanisms,including those involving histone modifications,DNA methylation,and noncoding RNAs,regulate B-cell responses,and their dysregulation can contribute to the pathogenesis of autoimmune *** with autoimmune diseases show epigenetic alterations that lead to the initiation and perpetuation of autoimmune ***,many clinical and animal model studies have shown the promising potential of epigenetic therapies for *** this review,we present an up-to-date overview of epigenetic mechanisms with a focus on their roles in regulating functional B-cell ***,we discuss epigenetic dysregulation in B cells and highlight its contribution to the development of autoimmune *** on clinical and preclinical evidence,we discuss novel epigenetic biomarkers and therapies for patients with autoimmune disorders.

Impact of the adherence to medical treatment on the main urinary metabolic disorders in patients with kidney stones

Objective:To assess the effect of the adherence to medical treatment on urinary parameters in the 24-h metabolic study of patients with kidney ***:A retrospective,longitudinal,descriptive,and observational study was carried out by reviewing the hospital electronic medical record from 2014 to *** adherence to drug treatment was measured 6 months after its initiation,and the numerical values of the metabolic studies were *** tests were performed to compare the difference before and after ***:Ninety patients were evaluated,with 73.3% of *** 180-day overall adherence rate was 61.2% in patients treated with a single drug and 85.4% in patients treated with multiple *** is a statistically significant increase in citrate levels in patients with good adherence in comparison with non-adherent patients(p=0.031 vs.p=0.528).Conclusions:Medical treatment and dietary measures in patients with kidney stones have an initial impact at 6 months on the values of the main urinary metabolic alterations that predispose to calculi formation;the most significant is seen in those patients with adherence to medical treatment for hypocitraturia.

Background: Coupling biomass models with nutrient concentrations can provide sound estimations of carbon and nutrient contents, enabling the improvement of carbon and nutrient balance in forest ecosystems. Although nutrient concentrations are often assumed to be constant for some species and specific tree components, at least in mature stands,the concentrations usually vary with age, site index and even with tree density. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the sources of variation in nutrient concentrations in biomass compartments usually removed during harvesting operations, covering a range of species and management conditions: semi-natural forest, conventional forest plantations and short rotation forestry(SRF). Five species(Betula pubescens, Quercus robur, Eucalyptus globulus, Eucalyptus nitens and Populus spp.) and 14 genotypes were considered. A total of 430 trees were sampled in 61 plots to obtain 6 biomass components:leaves, twigs, thin branches, thick branches, bark and wood. Aboveground leafless biomass was pooled together *** concentrations of C, N, K, P, Ca, Mg, S, Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn and B were measured and the total biomass of each sampled tree and plot were determined. The data were analysed using boosted regression trees and conventional ***: The main sources of variation in nutrient concentrations were biomass component > > genotype(species) ≈ age >tree diameter. The concentrations of Ca, Mg and K were most strongly affected by genotype and age. The concentrations of P, K, Ca, Mg, S and Cu in the wood component decreased with age, whereas C concentrations increased, with a trend to reach 50% in the older trees. In the SRF, interamerican poplar and P. trichocarpa genotypes were comparatively more efficient in terms of Ca and K nutrient assimilation index(NAI)(+65-85%) than eucalypts, mainly because leafless biomass can be removed. Evidences supporting the vascular etiology of post-double balloon enteroscopy pancreatitis: Study in porcine model

Double balloon enteroscopy(DBE) is an endoscopic technique broadly used to diagnose and treat small bowel diseases. Among the associated complications of the oral DBE, post-procedure pancreatitis has taken the most attention due to its gravity and the thought that it might be associated to the technique itself and anatomical features of the pancreas. However, as the etiology has not been clarified yet, this paper aims to review the published literature and adds new results from a porcine animal model. Biochemical markers, histological sections and the vascular perfusion of the pancreas were monitored in the pig during DBE practice. A reduced perfusion of the pancreas and bowel, the presence of defined hypoxic areas and disseminated necrotic zones were found in the pancreatic tissue of pigs. All these evidences contribute to support a vascular distress as the most likely etiology of the post-DBE pancreatitis.

Perfect Reconstructable Decimated One-Dimensional Empirical Mode Decomposition Filter Banks

This paper introduces decimated filter banks for the one-dimensional empirical mode decomposition （1D-EMD）. These filter banks can provide perfect reconstruction and allow for an arbitrary tree structure. Since the EMD is a data driven decomposition, it is a very useful analysis instrument for non-stationary and non-linear signals. However, the traditional 1D-EMD has the disadvantage of expanding the data. Large data sets can be generated as the amount of data to be stored increases with every decomposition level. The 1D-EMD can be thought as having the structure of a single dyadic filter. However, a methodology to incorporate the decomposition into any arbitrary tree structure has not been reported yet in the literature. This paper shows how to extend the 1D-EMD into any arbitrary tree structure while maintaining the perfect reconstruction property. Furthermore, the technique allows for downsampling the decomposed signals. This paper, thus, presents a method to minimize the data-expansion drawback of the 1D-EMD by using decimation and merging the EMD coefficients. The proposed algorithm is applicable for any arbitrary tree structure including a full binary tree structure.
