Bacterial resistance is today a matter of great medical concern,so it is urgent to investigate alternatives to alleviate it.Photodynamic inactivation(PDI)is a method that has been endorsed to inactivate diferent pathogens,including bacteria,fungi and viruses.PDI is achieved by using a photosensitizer(PS)molecule which generates reactive oxygen species under visible or UV ra-diation.We use visible light and UV-A radiation to excite four commercial PSs(methylene blue,rose bengal,riboflavin and curcumin),and nanopartides synthesized in our laboratory.Despite these PSs having been thoroughly studied in the past by other research groups,in order to compare their effects in an appropriate way,we matched the number of photons they absorb.We found that methylene blue leads to the major inactivation of Escherichia coli.Furthermore,we evaluated the production of singlet axygen and hydroxyl radicals in the photoinactivation process.

Radiopharmaceutical therapy(RPT)has shown great promise in the treatment of various cancers.However,the current approach is a"one size fits all"model,which results in varied patient responses,and there is a need for personalized RPT(Fig.S1 online).This personalized approach requires a better understanding of the physics,biology,radiobiology,pharmacology,immunology,chemistry,and imaging involved in RPT[1].Multidisciplinary research using experimental,numerical,and simulation platforms would be key to accelerating progress in this area.

研究一种用氯化钡(BaCl_(2)∙2H_(2)O)和磷酸钠(Na_(3)PO_(4))去除饱和溶液中(0.016 mol/L CaSO_(4))硫酸钙的化学方法。主要目的是通过沉淀出两种固体物质从溶液中去除这些离子:硫酸根(SO_(4)^(2−))沉淀为重晶石(BaSO_(4)),钙(Ca^(2+))沉淀为羟基磷灰石(Ca_(5)(PO_(4))_(3)OH)。此外,探索一种用油酸和十二烷基胺作捕集剂的固体/液体分离方法(即浮选)。结果表明,在60℃、pH 11.5下用3.9 g/L BaCl_(2)·2H_(2)O和1.6 g/L Na_(3)PO_(4)对饱和溶液进行化学处理,促进硫酸钡和缺钙羟基磷灰石(Ca_(10−x)(HPO_(4))_(x)(PO_(4))_(6−x)(OH)_(2−x))的沉淀,钙和硫酸根的残余浓度分别低于0.10和5 mg/L。当反应剂用量相同、在低于上述温度和pH值下处理时,残余钙浓度增加到28 mg/L。用油酸作捕集剂、pH 9.5时羟基磷灰石的浮选回收率最高,约为80%;而用十二烷基胺作捕集剂、pH 6.5时重晶石的浮选回收率约为90%。

由于环境政策和经济因素,复杂硫化物矿的一些浮选作业用水循环使用,导致某些离子的浓度逐渐升高,影响到相关矿物的浮选。在此背景下,对含有高浓度钙和硫酸盐离子的合成溶液的处理进行实验研究和热力学分析。重点评估两种铝化合物对于Ca^(2+)和SO_(4)^(2-)以钙矾石形式析出过程的作用。结果发现,非晶态氢氧化铝比晶态氢氧化铝更为有效,可脱除高达83%的钙和91%的硫酸盐。对所得固体样品的XRD分析表明,因为吸收了大气中的二氧化碳,主要反应产物为钙矾石,伴随着少量的方解石。化学处理后的最终溶液中残留钙和硫酸盐的浓度低于200 mg/L。动力学研究发现,钙脱除过程对于钙浓度为二级反应,表观活化能为53.48 kJ/mol,表明钙矾石析出过程可能受化学反应控制。

银沙银矿(Silver Sand silver deposit)是玻利维亚锡矿带内新探明的一个超大型中硫型浅成低温热液银矿床,已探明银金属资源量约1万t,平均银品位约120 g/t,并伴有少量铅、锌、铟、镓。银矿化与中新世中酸性侵入岩和次火山岩有关。矿体赋存于白垩系蚀变褪色石英砂岩中的密集构造裂隙带内。成矿作用可以划分为原生硫化物成矿期和表生氧化期,原生硫化物成矿期大致可分为3个矿化蚀变阶段,矿化蚀变阶段Ⅰ为大面积绢云母化褪色蚀变及玻利维亚型层状(manto)锡矿化、矿化蚀变阶段Ⅱ为细脉状和构造角砾间含银硫盐和硫化物,矿化蚀变阶段Ⅲ为方解石细脉。银沙银矿分布最为广泛的围岩蚀变类型为绢云母化,其次为黄铁矿化,以及少量硅化、碳酸盐化和重晶石化。矿化特征主要表现为在围岩白垩系石英砂岩构造裂隙内成密集含银硫盐和硫化物细脉及角砾岩脉。矿体埋藏浅,规模大,适合大规模露天开采。作为玻利维亚锡矿带的一个组成部分,该矿床形成于活动大陆弧后地区。根据成矿过程特点,文章初步提出银沙银矿的成矿模型,并根据两年以来找矿勘查工作,提出了进一步找矿方向,特别值得关注的是银沙银矿所在的成矿带呈近北北西走向,长约8 km,宽约2.5 km,区内遍布采矿遗迹,通过进一步系统勘探和开发,有望再探明一个世界级银矿区。

Andean high-altitude wetlands are important ecosystems that serve a range of socialecological functions. In the Andes, bofedales, a specific type of peat-producing wetland, are essential for the sustainability of mountain ecosystems and indigenous pastoralist communities. The Chucuyo bofedal in northern Chile is affected by climatic variability and water extraction for agricultural uses via the Lauca canal. Herders in the local community also actively manage this wetland according to their traditional ecological knowledge to ensure permanent fodder for their animals. In this article, we analyze the annual behavior of the Chucuyo bofedal after the wet season. Based on precipitation data, extracted water flows, vegetation vigor from satellite images, and an ethnographic approach, we determined that the bofedal’s productivity was negatively correlated with the amount of precipitation and positively correlated with the surface area of the wetland. However, water extraction via the Lauca channel had no significant relationship with either surface area or vegetation vigor. We identify community practices and traditional ecological knowledge as key elements in the maintenance of these ecosystems. This situation is critical in the context of an aging population and the current pattern of migration out of the region to urban areas. The results provide substantial empirical evidence for future decision-making regarding the conservation of these ecosystems.

Targeted therapy has become one of the standards of care for advanced lung cancer.More than 10 genetic aberrations have been discovered that are actionable and several tyrosine kinase inhibitors(TKIs)have been approved to target each of them.Among several genetic aberrations that are actionable in non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC),ROS1 translocations also known as gene fusion proteins,are found in only 1%-2%of the patient population.ROS1 mutations can usually be detected using a combination of techniques such as immunohistochemistry(IHC),Fluorescence in-situ testing(FISH),polymerase chain reaction(PCR),and nextgeneration sequencing(NGS).However,RNA NGS and ctDNA NGS(liquid biopsies)also contribute to the diagnosis.There are currently numerous FDA-approved agents for these tumors,including crizotinib and entrectinib;however,there is in-vitro sensitivity data and clinical data documenting responses to ceritinib and lorlatinib.Clinical responses and survival rates with these agents are frequently among the best compared to other TKIs with genetic aberrations;however,intrinsic or extrinsic mechanisms of resistance may develop,necessitating research for alternative treatment modalities.To combat the mechanisms of resistance,novel agents such as repotrectenib,cabozantinib,talotrectinib,and others are being developed.In this article,we examine the literature pertaining to patients with ROS1 tumors,including epidemiology,clinical outcomes,resistance mechanisms,and treatment options.

We examine a capacitated system exposed to random stepwise capacity disruptions with exponentially distributed interarrival times and tmiformly distributed magnitudes. We explore two countermeasure policies for a risk-neutral decision maker who seeks to maximize the long-nm average reward. A one-phase policy considers implementation of countermeasures throughout the entirety of a disruption cycle. The results of this analysis form a basis for a two-phase model which implements countermeasures during only a fraction of a disruption cycle. We present an extensive numerical analysis as well as a sensitivity study on the fluctuations of some system parameter values.
