Owing to the serious potential side-effects on the environment and human health,the rapid detection and removal of antibiotics have become an important research *** this work,four zinc-based metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)with different functional groups,i.e.,Zn-MOF,Zn-MOF-CH_(3),Zn-MOF-nO_(2),Zn-MOF-COOH,were utilized for the construction of LDO/MOF composite materials with a nickel-iron-cobalt-based layered double oxide,*** results showed that the LDO/MOF composites not only had high sensitivity in detecting sulfonamide and quinolone antibiotics,but also had an appreciable ability to adsorb them from *** maximum adsorption capacities of all the four types of LDO@Zn-MOFs to all antibiotics can at least reach 150 mg/g,and the limits of detection in relation to all four antibiotics were at least as low as 100μg/*** work suggested the dual-function extraction performance can be attributed to the synergistic effects between the LDO and the ***,the strong ferromagnetism derived from the LDO provided great convenience for the separation and regeneration of the LDO/MOF composites.

Influence of Flow Regime on the Vegetation Zonation along Mountain Streams in the Western Cape, South Africa

Zonation patterns of riparian vegetation have been sampled and described in mountain streams in two catchments in the Hottentots-Holland Mountains, Western Cape, South Africa. Six main vegetation types that differ in structure and species composition, are dominant along these river banks: Aquatic vegetation, Wetbanks, Palmiet, Scrub, Forest and Shrubland(Fynbos). The study aims to correlate the vegetation patterns to flooding patterns, in particular the inundation frequency and stream power. A problem arises: because these catchments are ungauged, like most mountain catchments, with the only weirs at the downstream end of the catchment. Discharge data at the weirs are extrapolated to the sites upstream by multiplication with a factor based on the size of the subcatchment that drains through a sample site. In this way, recurrence intervals for floods in mountain streams are derived. Discharges at sites are also calculated using bed roughness(Manning's n) and slope in straight sections with uniform flow conditions. Stream power is derived from the discharges calculated in this manner. The combination of stream power and recurrence intervals explains the occurrence of most vegetation types occurring on the banks, except for one type: Afromontane Forest. This type is probably more dependent on other factors, such as protection from fire and the depth of the groundwater table.

Late Holocene Moisture Changes in the Core Area of Arid Central Asia Reflected by Rock Magnetic Records of Glacier Lake Kalakuli Sediments in the Westernmost Tibetan Plateau and their Influences on the Evolution of Ancient Silk Road

The evolution of Ancient Silk Road(ASR) was deeply influenced by late Holocene moisture changes in Arid Central Asia(ACA). nevertheless, controversies in Holocene moisture change pattern of ACA and poorly–constrained age models of related studies have made the discussion about late Holocene moisture changes in ACA and their influences on the evolution of ASR difficult. Recently, a high–resolution age model during the late Holocene was established for Kalakuli Lake, a small glacier lake located in the core area of ACA. A thorough rock magnetic investigation was carried out on Kalakuli Lake sediments based on this age model. The magnetic mineral assemblage of Kalakuli Lake sediments is still dominated by primary magnetite despite minor diagenetic effects. Comparisons of rock magnetic records to parameters previously used as indicator of glacier fluctuations suggest that clastic input to Kalakuli Lake was high(low) and magnetic grain size is relatively larger(smaller), when glaciers on Muztagh Ata advanced(retreated). The ARM/SIRM ratio, a magnetic grain size proxy, is directly related to lake hydrodynamics, which are ultimately controlled by glacier fluctuations on Muztagh Ata as the result of regional moisture changes. Late Holocene moisture changes indicated by the ARM/SIRM ratio are consistent with cool/wet and warm/dry oscillations indicated by the unweighted average of biomarker hydrogen isotopic data of the C26 and C28 n–alkanoic acids in a previous study about Kalakuli Lake, most moisture change records of the core area of ACA and winter insolation of the northern Hemisphere, but opposite to Asian monsoon evolution. Given Asian monsoon and the westerlies are mutually inhibited, we propose that late Holocene moisture changes in the core area of ACA were controlled by the intensity of Asian monsoon versus the westerlies under the governance of solar insolation. The corrosion behaviour of mill-scaled X65 pipeline steel with and without a primer layer was studied in a simulated near-neutral pH soil *** revealed a three-stage corrosion process of the mill-scaled pipeline steel *** first stage included an initial preferential dissolution of goethite(γ-FeOOH)and lepidocrocite(?-FeOOH)in mill *** second stage was marked by enhanced localized corrosion and pit-formation because of either galvanic corrosion or acidic dissolution in areas enclosed by mill *** final stage was general corrosion after the mill scale flaked off the steel *** the primer layer was applied,localized corrosion was significantly enhanced on the steel surface and persisted for an extended period as compared to the mill-scaled *** precipitation of siderite(FeCO3)was observed at flawed locations of mill scale,although the bulk chemistry is not favorable for its formation on the steel surface free of mill *** local precipitation of siderite formed a capped mill scale enclosure where localized corrosion can be further enhanced.

There have been major developments in endoscopic imaging techniques in recent *** with high definition and magnification can provide high quality images that allow for the histological estimation of lesions in vivo and in situ when combined with ancillary enhancement techniques such as chromoendoscopy(CE)and virtual CE(narrow band imaging fujinon intelligent chromoendoscopy,or i-Scan).Despite the enormous potential for these advanced techniques,their value and feasibility in the clinic are still doubted,particularly in cases of colonic polyps that are slated for removal,where in vivo characterization may be deemed ***,there are several advantages offered by such advanced endoscopic *** with or without magnification demonstrates highly accurate histology and invasion depth prediction,and virtual CE is a feasible and less cumbersome alternative to CE in terms of histological estimation,though not sufficiently accurate for depth invasion ***,the supplementary information provided by advanced imaging systems can assist the endoscopist in the selection of a strategic approach,such as in deciding whether a colonic lesion should be resected,left in situ,or requires more intensive surgical ***,advanced high-resolution imaging techniques may be more cost effective,such that histopathology of lowrisk lesions following resection can be *** results of these evaluations and comparisons with traditional CE are presented and *** together,the benefits provided by these advanced capabilities justify their development,and advocates their use for the treatment and management of colonic polyps.

Malaysia Airlines flight 17 crashed on 17 July 2014 while flying over an area of armed conflict in eastern *** first forensic trace evidence was collected after the human remains were transferred to a safe location in the netherlands for identification and *** victim identification processes were therefore undertaken in concert with the forensic *** to these processes,X-ray and computed tomography scanners were used to reveal foreign objects in the human remains,and a large number of these fragments were recovered after the forensic triage.A distinct group of metal fragments was identified as being potential remnants of high-energy foreign *** analysis revealed that they were explosively deformed unalloyed steel fragments,some of which had shapes consistent with pre-formed metal fragments found in a 9n314M warhead used in Buk SA-11 ***,thin film deposits of cockpit glass and aluminium were identified on the most heavily deformed side of some of the explosively deformed metal fragments,suggesting they came from outside the *** findings supported early suspicions that Malaysia Airlines flight 17 was struck by a Buk SA-11 missile.

Several gentamicin bulk samples from different origins were investigated using an LC/MS *** equipped with ion trap MS with positive ionization was performed on a Capcell Pak C18(AQ) column with the mobile phase containing 50 mM trifluoroacetic(TFA) and *** present in batches of gentamicin bulk samples were elucidated and compared according to their fragmentation *** total seventeen impurities present in samples,five impurities were not elucidated and two compounds were identified *** was observed that the impurity profiles were different in samples from different origins which indicate necessity in the quality control of gentamicin.

Improved reversed phase liquid chromatographic method with pulsed electrochemical detection for tobramycin in bulk and pharmaceutical formulation

Tobramycin is one of the aminoglycoside antibiotics that lack a UV absorbing chromophore. However, the application of pulsed electrochemical detection （PED） has been used successfully for the analysis of this and similar antibiotics. This work describes an improved liquid chromatographic （LC） method combined with PED, which is able to separate much more impurities than before. Using a Discovery C-18 RP column （250 mm × 4.6 mm i.d., 5 μm）, isocratic elution was carried out with a mobile phase, containing sodium sulfate （35 g/L）, sodium octanesulphonic acid （1 g/L）, tetrahydrofuran （14mL/L） and 0.2 M phosphate buffer pH 3.0 （50 mL/L）. Using these experimental conditions, the limit of quantification （LOQ, S/n= 10） was 5 ng. The linearity was examined in the range LOQ-60 μg/mL and the coefficient of determination was 0.998. The method also proved to be repeatable and the recovery was close to 100%. The influence of the different chromatographic parameters on the separation was investigated by means of an experimental design. The proposed method is useful in quality control of tobramycin drug substances and drug products.
