The high morbidity and mortality rate of ischemic stroke in humans has led to the development of numerous animal models that replicate human stroke to further understand the underlying pathophysiology and to explore potential therapeutic *** promising therapeutics have been identified using these animal models,with most undergoing significant testing in rodent models,the vast majority of these interventions have failed in human clinical *** failure of preclinical translation highlights the critical need for better therapeutic assessment in more clinically relevant ischemic stroke animal *** animal models such as non-human primates,sheep,pigs,and dogs are likely more predictive of human responses and outcomes due to brain anatomy and physiology that are more similar to humans-potentially making large animal testing a key step in the stroke therapy translational *** objective of this review is to highlight key characteristics that potentially make these gyrencephalic,large animal ischemic stroke models more predictive by comparing pathophysiological responses,tissue-level changes,and model limitations.

Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)is a clinically relevant,real-time imaging modality that is frequently utilized to assess stroke type and ***,specific MRI biomarkers that can be used to predict long-term functional recovery are still a critical ***,the present study sought to examine the prognostic value of commonly utilized MRI parameters to predict functional outcomes in a porcine model of ischemic *** was induced via permanent middle cerebral artery *** 24 hours post-stroke,MRI analysis revealed focal ischemic lesions,decreased diffusivity,hemispheric swelling,and white matter *** deficits including behavioral abnormalities in open field and novel object exploration as well as spatiotemporal gait impairments were observed at 4 weeks *** graphical models identified specific MRI outputs and functional recovery variables,including white matter integrity and gait performance,that exhibited strong conditional *** correlation analysis revealed a prognostic relationship between lesion volume and white matter integrity and novel object exploration and gait ***,these analyses may also have the potential of predicting patient recovery at chronic time points as pigs and humans share many anatomical similarities(e.g.,white matter composition)that have proven to be critical in ischemic stroke *** study was approved by the University of Georgia(UGA)Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee(IACUC;Protocol Number:A2014-07-021-Y3-A11 and 2018-01-029-Y1-A5)on November 22,2017.

With advancements in technology, personal computing devices are better adapted for and further integrated into people’s lives and homes. The integration of technology into society also results in an increasing desire to control who and what has access to sensitive information, especially for vulnerable people including children and the elderly. With blockchain rise as a technology that can revolutionize the world, it is now possible to have an immutable audit trail of locational data over time. By controlling the process through inexpensive equipment in the home, it is possible to control whom has access to such personal data. This paper presents a block-chain based family security system for outdoor tracking and in-house monitoring of users’ activities via sensors to detect anomalies in users’ daily activities with the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI). For outdoor tracking the locations of the consenting family members’ smart phones are logged and stored in a private blockchain which can be accessed through a node installed in the family home on a computer. The data for the whereabouts and daily activities of family members stays securely within the family unit and does not go to any third-party organizations. A Self-Organizing Maps (SOM) based smart contract is used for anomaly detection in users’ daily activities in a smart home, which notifies emergency contact or other family members in case of anomaly detection. The approach described in this paper contributes to the development of in-house data processing for outdoor tracking, and daily activities monitoring and prediction without any third-party hardware or software. The system is implemented at a small scale with one miner, two user nodes and several device nodes, as a proof of concept;the technical feasibility is discussed along with the limitations of the system. There is growing evidence suggests that noise-induced cochlear damage may lead to hyperexcitability in the central auditory system(CAS)which may give rise to ***,the correlation between the onset of the neurophysiological changes in the CAS and the onset of tinnitus has not been well *** investigate this relationship,chronic electrodes were implanted into the auditory cortex(AC) and sound evoked activities were measured from awake rats before and after noise *** auditory brainstem response(ABR) was used to assess the degree of noise-induced hearing *** was evaluated by measuring gap-induced prepulse inhibition(gap-PPI).Rats were exposed monaurally to a high-intensity narrowband noise centered at 12 kHz at a level of 120 dB SPL for 1 *** the noise exposure,all the rats developed either permanent(>2 weeks) or temporary(<3 days) hearing loss in the exposed ear(s).The AC amplitudes increased significantly 4 h after the noise *** of the exposed rats also showed decreased *** post-exposure AC enhancement showed a positive correlation with the amount of hearing *** onset of tinnitus-like behavior was happened after the onset of AC enhancement.

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection has been clearly linked to peptic ulcer disease and some gastrointestinal malignancies. Increasing evidence demonstrates possible associations to disease states in other organ systems, known as the extraintestinal manifestations of H. pylori. Different conditions associated with H. pylori infection include those from hematologic, cardiopulmonary, metabolic, neurologic, and dermatologic systems. The aim of this article is to provide a concise review of the evidence that supports or refutes the associations of H. pylori and its proposed extraintestinal manifestations. Based on data from the literature, PUD, mucosal associated lymphoid tumors lymphoma, and gastric adenocarcinoma has well-established links. Current evidence most supports extraintestinal manifestations with H. pylori in immune thrombocytopenic purpura, iron deficiency anemia, urticaria, Parkinson’s, migraines and rosacea; however, there is still plausible link with other diseases that requires further research.
