Transforming growth factor beta(TGFβ)is a pleiotropic cytokine with functions related to angiogenesis,tumor suppression,and immune tolerance[1].TGFβis involved in tumor immune escape and is a target for cancer immune therapy[1].We have reported that healthy donors and cancer patients harbor CD8^(+)cytotoxic T lymphocytes(CTLs)that are specific to TGFβ-derived epitopes and that these CD8^(+)CTLs kill malignant myeloid cells in a TGFβ-dependent manner[2].

The prevalence of chronic kidney disease and peripheral arterial disease is ***,it is increasingly problematic to image these patients as the number of patients needing a vascular examination is increasing *** high-risk patients with impaired kidney function,intravascular administration of iodinated contrast media can result in contrast-induced acute kidney injury and Gadolinium can induce nephrogenic systemic fibrosis(NSF).It is important to identify these highrisk patients by means of se-creatinine/e glomerular filtration *** indication for contrast examination should counterbalance the increased *** or more alternative examination methods without contrast media,such as CO 2 angiography,Ultrasound/Doppler examination or magnetic resonance angiography without contrast should be considered,but at the same time,allow for a meaningful outcome of the *** contrast is deemed essential,the patient should be well hydrated,the amount of contrast should be restricted,the examination should be focused,metformin and diuretics stopped,and renal function *** bicarbonate and N-acetylcysteine are popular but their efficiency is not *** is no evidence that dialysis protects patients with impaired renal function from contrast-induced nephropathy or NSF.

Considering recent developments in the energy sector,further reduction of electricity cost and flattening of the electric power demand curve are *** have focused on an autonomous electric heater control system that can easily be implemented in existing buildings without strict comfort *** are winter heating of warehouses and vacation homes,and heat drying of buildings under *** have set up a system that typically reduces electricity cost by about 40%on the basis of automatic weather and real time pricing *** system uses the building as an energy reservoir over periods with high electricity *** a model predictive control system,we compare use of a genetic algorithm,a particle swarm optimization,and a neural network for heater control,all working in a closed loop to reduce the influence of modeling *** have simulated the performance of the systems using realistic data and found that all three optimizers give about the same performance,varying only a few percent in ***,the computational and memory requirements of the neural network are much lower than for the other optimizers,so it is preferable for use with inexpensive *** carried out a full-scale experiment at a residential house and found agreement with simulation results.

Transcatheter arterial embolization as treatment of upper nonvariceal gastrointestinal bleeding is increasingly being used after failed primary endoscopic *** results after embolization have become better and surgery still has a high *** is a safe and effective procedure,but its use is has been limited because of relatively high rates of rebleeding and high mortality,both of which are associated with gastrointestinal bleeding and non-gastrointestinal related mortality *** arterial embolization is a valuable minimal invasive method in the treatment of early rebleeding and does not involve a high risk of treatment associated complications.A multidisciplinary approach is necessary in the treatment of these patients and should comprise gastroenterologists,interventional radiologists,anaesthesiologists,and surgeons to achieve the best possible results.

Immune modulatory vaccines (IMVs) are novel therapies designed to activate anti-regulatory T cells (anti-Tregs) [1]. Anti-Tregs recognize HLA-restricted antigens on the surface of regulatory immune cells derived from tumor microenvironment antigens (TMAs) [2], such as IDO [3], PD-L1 [4], and TGFβ [5, 6]. Having established that specific T cells recognize target cells in a TGFβ-dependent manner, we reported that such TGFβ-specific T cells are associated with clinical benefit and improved survival after combined treatment with radiotherapy (RT) and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in patients with pancreatic cancer (PC) [7]. Additionally, we found that a TGFβ-based IMV impacted tumor growth in murine models of PC via immune modulation of the tumor microenvironment (TME) [8]. These data suggest that combining a TGFβ-based IMV with RT/ICI therapy will be beneficial for patients with PC.

Human hearing relies on 15,000 hair cells （HCs） or mecha- noreceptors sited in a 34 mm long helical shaped epithelial ridge. There may be several explanations for their vulner- ability in man and regrettably, they do not regenerate. Ap- proximately 35,000 bipolar neurons have their soma situated in the modiolus of the cochlea. Human afferents consist of two separate systems; one is represented by the large type I cells innervating the inner HCs （IHCs, n = 3,400） and the other one by the small type Ⅱcells innervating the outer HCs （OHCs, n = 12,000）. Type I spiral ganglion neurons （SGNs） constitute 96% of the afferent nerve population. Unlike in other mammals, their somas together with the pre- and post-somatic segments are unmyelinated. Type II nerve cell soma and fibers are unmyelinated.
