Using biopolymers as wall materials in spray drying poses challenges,particularly in attaining flowability and thermal stability among their physicochemical *** paper addresses these challenges by preparing microparticles using a blend of starch–chitosan and a poloxamer,commercially named pluronic®*** aimed to elucidate the effects of varying poloxamer concentrations on the resulting particles through the spray drying *** with a poloxamer concentration of 3%(w/v)demonstrated a notably higher yield,especially when compared to those with 0%and 1%*** with 3%and 5%(w/v)poloxamer displayed a narrower particle size distribution,with the 3%blend showing a superior yield attributed to arrangements of blend components that improve flowability.X-ray diffraction analysis showcased the characteristic peaks of A-type starch form,with shifts suggesting enhanced interactions between *** with increased poloxamer content showed elevated thermal degradation temperatures,with the 3%blend registering a significant rise,opening avenues for encapsulating heat-sensitive *** study primarily focuses on the preparation and basic characterization of *** underscores the potential of blends with optimal poloxamer concentrations in microencapsulation,emphasizing further research to harness their capabilities thoroughly.

Impact of device resistances in the performance of graphene-based terahertz photodetectors

In recent years, graphene field-effect-transistors(GFETs) have demonstrated an outstanding potential for terahertz(THz) photodetection due to their fast response and high-sensitivity. Such features are essential to enable emerging THz applications, including 6G wireless communications, quantum information, bioimaging and security. However, the overall performance of these photodetectors may be utterly compromised by the impact of internal resistances presented in the device, so-called access or parasitic resistances. In this work, we provide a detailed study of the influence of internal device resistances in the photoresponse of high-mobility dual-gate GFET detectors. Such dual-gate architectures allow us to fine tune(decrease) the internal resistance of the device by an order of magnitude and consequently demonstrate an improved responsivity and noise-equivalent-power values of the photodetector, respectively. Our results can be well understood by a series resistance model, as shown by the excellent agreement found between the experimental data and theoretical calculations. These findings are therefore relevant to understand and improve the overall performance of existing high-mobility graphene photodetectors.

Evidences supporting the vascular etiology of post-double balloon enteroscopy pancreatitis: Study in porcine model

Double balloon enteroscopy(DBE) is an endoscopic technique broadly used to diagnose and treat small bowel diseases. Among the associated complications of the oral DBE, post-procedure pancreatitis has taken the most attention due to its gravity and the thought that it might be associated to the technique itself and anatomical features of the pancreas. However, as the etiology has not been clarified yet, this paper aims to review the published literature and adds new results from a porcine animal model. Biochemical markers, histological sections and the vascular perfusion of the pancreas were monitored in the pig during DBE practice. A reduced perfusion of the pancreas and bowel, the presence of defined hypoxic areas and disseminated necrotic zones were found in the pancreatic tissue of pigs. All these evidences contribute to support a vascular distress as the most likely etiology of the post-DBE pancreatitis.

Historical fluxes of metal and metalloids in an aquatic ecosystem affected by land-use change and mining activities in northwestern Mexico

Freshwater reservoirs are essential owing because of their ecological, economic, and social *** are particularly vulnerable to contamination, as of metal and metalloids, derived from anthropogenic activities like mining. The temporal variations in trace element concentrations(arsenic(As),mercury(Hg), chromium(Cr), copper(Cu), nickel(Ni), lead(pb), and zinc(Zn)), enrichment, fluxes, and possible sources were evaluated by studying two sediment cores from the La Angostura(ANG) Reservoir(northwest Mexico), using210pb geochronology. The enrichment factors showed from null to minor enrichment for most elements, but moderate to severe enrichment of mercury(Hg). Most trace element concentrations had a detrital origin, and notable Hg concentration increases since the past decade were associated with severe drought periods, likely resulting from wildfires. The observed sediment concentrations of As and Hg can cause adverse effects on biota in the ecosystem since they are above the probable effect level(pEL). Development of strategies for metal attenuation in this reservoir is recommended and metals should be controlled until specific ecotoxicological studies are performed.

Effect of double-balloon enteroscopy on pancreas:An experimental porcine model

AIM:To evaluate the effect of double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE) on pancreas histology and levels of pancreatic enzymes. METHODS:Conventional upper gastrointestinal endoscopy was performed on five control pigs. Oral DBE was performed with an EN-450T5 enteroscope on 20 pigs. Two experimental groups (10 pigs each) were defined according to DBE duration:90 min for Group 1 and 140 min for Group 2. During oral insertion, the balloons were not inflated in the descending part of the duode-num to avoid the minor duodenal papilla. Serum amylase, lipase and C-reactive protein (CRp) levels were monitored before the procedure and repeated every 30 min until the exploration was finished, as well as 24 h and 7 d after. After the procedure and for a total of 7 d, the pigs were observed twice a day for signs of decreased activity, irritability, vomiting or anorexia. Gross and microscopic examination of the pancreas was performed on day 7. RESULTS:All animals tolerated DBE without clinical manifestations of acute pancreatitis. Experimental groups had higher levels of enzymes than the control group at 24 h. Throughout the exploration, the amylase levels increased significantly above the baseline 24 h after DBE, although the increase was not statistically significant and did not reach 20% of the baseline. An increase in lipase and CRp was observed at 24 h after the procedure, although by day 7, all enzymatic levels had returned to baseline. No differences between Groups 1 and 2 were found for any enzyme and sampling site during and after the procedure. Similarly, no correlation between insertion depth and enzyme levels was observed. Direct in situ and post-removal inspection of the pancreas did not show any evidence of fluid collection, abscesses or hemorrhage. Histological examination of the pancreas from Groups 1 and 2 revealed the existence of focal areas (0.14-0.26 mm 2 ) of ischemic necrosis in 47.4% of the animals. The inflammato ry response plays an important role in neuroprotection and regeneration after ischemic *** use of non-ste roidal anti-inflammatory drugs has been a matter of debate as to whether they have beneficial or detrimental *** this context,the effects of the anti-inflammatory agent meloxicam have been scarcely documented after stro ke,but its ability to inhibit both cyclooxygenase isoforms(1 and 2) could be a promising strategy to modulate postischemic *** study analyzed the effect of meloxicam in a transient focal cerebral ischemia model in rats,measuring its neuroprotective effect after 48 hours and 7 days of reperfusion and the effects of the treatment on the glial scar and regenerative events such as the generation of new progenitors in the subventricular zone and axonal sprouting at the edge of the damaged *** show that meloxicam’s neuroprotective effects remained after 7 days of reperfusion even if its administration was restricted to the two first days after ***,meloxicam treatment modulated glial scar reactivity,which matched with an increase in axonal ***,this treatment decreased the formation of neuronal progenitor *** study discusses the dual role of anti-inflammatory treatments after stro ke and encourages the careful analysis of both the neuroprotective and the regenerative effects in preclinical studies.

This research explores the subject of territory,understood based on the life world of Andean inhabitants of the Colca Valley(Arequipa,peru),who are descendants of ancient local Indigenous groups that,since prehistoric times,have known how to adapt to the rugged geographical reality of the *** a phenomenological approach,which assesses the subjective experience,it was possible to corroborate the existence of routine patterns of spatiality that preserve the emotional essence of past territorial conceptions,which have prevailed despite the hegemonic impositions systematically forced upon the land ever since the Spanish conquest in the 16th *** carrying out coexistence fieldwork in situ,five layers of territorial sense have been registered,which,besides being very useful in order to optimize and give coherence to their agricultural and animal husbandry tasks,are periodically represented through verbal and corporal narratives,which have been mapped in this work in order to make their dynamics of symbolization visible and to conclude in the existence of an emotional Andean territory.
